Since when have real horses been able to swim across deep water with a grown man on their back, wearing fullplate no less? Did I miss that? That's completely mind-blowingly unrealistic on all counts.
Sure we can pull out the old realism vs fantasy argument, but ESO horses are quite obviously intended to mimic real horses. Not unicorns, or pegasi, or flying ninja pandas with saddles. Just horses. Normal, beautiful, old-fashioned horses.

The point that keeps coming up is that horses have problems swimming in deep water with heavy loads on their backs. Emphasis. They can carry people across water, but the heavier they are the harder it is. And a muscular full grown adult with heavy armor on is at least 200 lbs. We're also not counting on the riders packs. Some horses CAN manage this with proper training if the water isn't too deep but 200+lbs. is a bit of a stretch. (Btw, 200= Toned female 150 lbs. + 50 lbs. of fullplate. Males would be at least 230.)

Actually horses do carry grown man over the river, even if it is deep water. They won't do it without training, some do but 90% of time it has to trained. I know this because our country has lots of horses, and work horses here. My family had also farm here, and we trained horses. check that picture, we start training like that, and step by step we achieve that goal. we used horses lot on WW2.
I hope you won't take this personally, or believe that i'm just arguing for joy of disagree. i just want to tell you the reality on this 4.bp.blogspot.com/-Zl0iz_aOlCk/UcyyBPGog8I/AAAAAAAAHjk/2z4WjBT0N3Y/s1600/27.6.2013-9.jpg
EDIT i forgot to say that our workhorses can carry on their back, up to 397 lbs. Ground and water. Fullplate won't be a problem.

Had never heard of a heavily laden horse swimming across deep water before. It's hard to even imagine one doing that. It's hard to imagine them being able to maintain enough buoyancy to pull that off. Learn something new every day.
There's no real way to know for sure. War horses were referred to as destriers, coursers, or rounceys based on the role that they fulfilled, rather than the specific breed (there were also palfreys, but they really weren't used as war horses - they were the preferred horse for long-distance cross-country riding). Obviously some breeds would be more likely to end up as a courser, and others would be more likely to end up as a rouncey, but because the sources refer to various horses by role rather than by breed, it makes it very difficult to know with any certainty what breeds of horses were and weren't used for war.jamie.goddenrwb17_ESO wrote: »War horses were typically Friesians or something similar?

pretty sure it's bred into all animals born on tamriel; no one wants to even risk going into water that's waist deep for fear of slaugtherfish, have you ever seen those things? Ewwww. #alphapredator
