Identifying friends in game

Is there a way to be able to identify friends when they are nearby if you don't know their character names?
If not something like a slight glow around them or something like the grouping indicator over their head would be handy for me. I know friends account names but I don't know their characters names. Would be handy to be able to identify people I know from a distance after teleporting to them.
Would prefer not to use an addon if there is something in the settings that I have missed.

If i have 50 friends i cant group with all of them. But it would be cool and fun to recognize a friend if you pass by him in city or when exploring if he has a different character name. You know just to say Hi

✭✭Ah, I see. Indeed there seems to be no way right now that I know of to achieve this kind of functionality. And asking everyone on the friend list to wear a brightly colored pink dress to make them stand out in a crowd would be too much to ask, for sure.
Having an option like the current "Target Glow" in the interface options to add a glow to friends (toggle-able, adjustable in width/intensity) would indeed be nice to have.2 -
Gigglesnort✭✭✭I think that is one of the main problem is having most things go by account name and not character name, people know the account but not the character.
So as far as I know, there is no way to identify them without knowing all their character names.
I am always referred to as my account name in chat, never by my character name that I am on.
I have alts that I really don't want or need them in other guilds that my other characters are in and different alliances in the same guild just doesn't make sense.OIIIIIIIO

Swampster✭✭✭Due to the lack of any semblance of information provided by the almost non-existent UI there's nothing in game at present that will do what you want..
So you're basically left with add-ons, which are great.. and I for one am extremely thankful for their existence, because I wouldn't be playing ESO otherwise.
Problem is when the author of an add-on you rely on gives up on his/her project, or moves onto another game.. you end up pretty screwed.
Still a couple of addons that should give you something like what you're asking for..

✭✭✭✭Social Indicators does it. The friend indicator isn't very prominent, but it's there - and if you're in the same guild, all the better, because guild name is easily recognizable.3 -

✭✭Rainbow Reticle did it for me, though it only I.D.'s 'toons that you're actually scanning your reticle over.
