I loathe people who say that an MMO can't be done on a console.
First of all, I already play ESO with a gamepad and do just fine, thanks. The only thing that's really an issue is communication. And with a PS/Xbox having a built in voice chat, much of that problem could easily be solved with a little vision and creativity on the part of the designers.

Why do you think that the guild stores search sucks so much? Why do we only have 5 skills? Yeah yeah the 5+1 skills it was "planed" since the begining. Snip please... I work in development, you don't invent a system and then see how you can make it work on target platforms, you see what platforms you're developing for and then you build your system so it can run on the platforms. As soon as you know you're porting on a console with a game pad, you know that you can't have 18 buttons to use skills & consumables and you build your game system accordingly. I'm not saying the system is bad, but It's obvious it was designed like that because of consoles.
When the user interface is the same for the PC as for the consoles, it ruins the game experience for PC players... And it's an aberration to port MMORPGs as well as FPS to consoles because the game pads don't allow the same level of precision than a mouse does. At equal skill, a pc player will beat any console player any time of the day.
nope in early beta videos the ui was a complete classic ui with multiple 10slot qb minimap name plates and all the usefull gimmicks missing in this rubish ui now...

Strange two comments to put together. First you say you loathe people saying it can't be done, then you point out a significant problem that isn't fixed yet.
MMO means multiplayer, means communication. HUGE part of the game, and huge problem with consoles

This. Ignoring "Mac" is a bit annoying, for one thing...

Heh thanks for pointing that out, if you can link one of those videos it would be amazing and would silence once and for all the people who say 5+1 skills isn't done because of consoles. I also remember there was a round very nice looking minimap in the first presentation video of ESO that sadly never saw the day...
Why make a minimap or improve UI when you can make dyes!

You must have stopped reading after the second paragraph. Because I point out in the rest of my post one of the ways that the communication problem can be addressed.

Again, my point remains. It's a problem that isn't fixed. An idea for a fix...doesn't fix it.

Well again you can use more that the 6 abilities with a controller. It is called button combinations. i.e. for ps4 controller, L2 + a button or R2 + a button do a certain function/ability. The same buttons without L2/R2 do another function/ability. Many options here. Don't think any console person is arguing we have the option for 40 buttons/abilities. Just saying we can do more than 6. FF 14 RR uses 12 abilities. 3 hot bars. Works just fine on a controller.
For the UI, DCUO had a minimap. It worked just fine. So just because ZOS took it out, it is automatically the fault for it going to console? I've seen other games on consoles with all sorts of UI features. Saying it was dumbed down due to console is just a cop out. There is no reason that they would have to do that. Not saying they didn't because of it. Just arguing that everyone who claims the UI and 6 abilities is solely because of that is only what a console could support is wrong. They can support more. So unless ZOS has said that is why we only have 6 abilities/no minimap/ minimal UI then I don't know where this is all coming from, other than you want something to blame.

In all fairness, I think the UI that ESO uses is a lot more attributable to a minimalist approach in general that ZOS has taken, not any desire to appease console owners. They have a UI that's designed to be the anti-WoW (whose UI's tend to make your screen look like the a panel on the bridge of the Starship Enterprise, not an immersive fantasy world).
After all, it wasn't any console limitation that kept them from including any damage numbers on the main screen, or kept them from showing a minimap, or showing a permanent XP bar. I think they clearly just wanted a simple, immersive design and the simplified quickslots are just another reflection of this.
After all, do you really want the ESO UI to look like a typical WoW UI? "There's my tiny character deep under there somewhere--surrounded by 40 quickslot skills, 300 overlapping damage numbers, 20 bars and graphs, 3 maps, a live feed from the ISS for some reason, and 4 chat screens."

For people switching to consoles because friend's won't play it on PC.... Don't let other people drag you down like that. Have some damn integrity.

I play ESO on the couch with my wireless mouse and keyboard and 57 inch tv, connected to the PC.
