Without oil and meatbags groups of 6+ would continue to pile up and not spread out until the server crashes.

Due to aoe caps.. You could even say oil is the only thing working as intended. If you put aoe caps on siege all scenarios would ultimately lead to server crash.

For small scale battle oil is pure troll lol, he didn't even need to use it in half of those encounters.

Those bads they were fighting need to L2P (Learn to Purge). Just one person with purge would completely negate the oil.

And yes those are definitely bads, when 10+ of them can't range down 2 guys and even let them set up oils over and over - not to mention don't even hold block so that they can get chain pulled, it speaks for itself.

I've been thinking the same. Just make it affect the user too.

Then they'd be used in the right way for keep defence not for flat ground battle.

There are valid ground applications for oil use at breaches in walls etc.

Not in my opinion and these are just opinions. And you could still drop oil to breaches, you couldn't just stand behind a corner and block a corridor by using oil.

And I don't mean that friendlies would get hit, just the one who uses it in a way that he would be in the area of effect.

Just need to purge...there is absolutely nothing else to it...its easy to work into a healer rotation...purge - heal - heal -purge - heal - heal. It is better to watch for the oil to pour, but when things get laggy just make sure you purge every five seconds or so. If you start to run out of mana, keep purging and hope one of your teammates is healing.

    @ZOS_BrianWheeler‌ , @ZOS_JessicaFolsom‌

Are flaming oil pots being used in the intended manner, by crowding oil pots in enclosed flat spaces to create floors of death? Or even out in the open, in large battles, the lag makes it difficult to see where oil is being spilled and difficult to purge off fast enough.

Because of the AOE target cap and the high amount of damage done by oil, it is probably far and away the highest DPS skill/ability/item in the game right now.

    Recommended solutions:

    1) Make oil pots hit the person using it if they are in the AOE
    2) Or have oil pots have a cone AOE pointing down to create a more realistic dropping down effect, with very little AOE size on a flat surface but maximized when dropped from a wall

I think either solution would be more in line with the intent of oil pots but perhaps you could enlighten us.

    Thanks

Recommended solutions for players who feel oil is too stronk:

    1) Open your eyes. Oil pots are not invis.
    2) Get familiar with oil and its radius.
    3) Purge/Cleanse. If you don't understand its importance in having it run in your party there is no hope for you so nerfing oil wont matter as you will just die to the next damage.
    4) Avoid the death trapped room and range the users down. Oil is only effective if you are dumb enough to stand in it.

I would say the opposite; smaller, non-zergballing groups are more susceptible, as these have too few AoE heals stacked up and too few people spamming Purge.
If they were to make people spread out, siege engines would have to practically one-shot anyone in AoE no matter shields and stacked up heals ticking for thousands.

You pour, people who stand in it get burned, it's not a 1 shot. It doesn't come out of nowhere with no warning. There are effective counters. I still fail to see the point how its dumb, broken etc. etc.

    Oil IS INDEED too strong.

Your sage advice is totally valid, but does not diminish the fact that oil is overly effective.

    1. Don't stand in the damage. That totally makes sense. And I here I thought the red circles were buffs. So don't stand in them! Even if they don't always render on screen! Thanks. Didn't realize it was specific to oil. "Open your eyes". Wow - good advice! Up until now I played with my eyes closed. I'll try and open them instead. I'll try looking around corners next to see if there are any oil pots set up there before I go around the corner. I hear ESP and Psychic Hotlines work great for that. Thankfully I have my psychic on speed dial.

    2. Oil has a pretty surprisingly large PBAOE range.

    3. Yes, you can purge it but the first tick of around 600 is pretty near instant. In an AOE that's a lot. You have to take the damage before you can purge it. Compare 600 first tick AOE damage to all other damage in the game. Name another AOE that does as much damage. And yes, I know you can bash someone off oil, but you pretty much have to be in the oil range to bash someone.

    4. Yes, blowing stuff up out of range is always good. Also death trap rooms often have these.... wall things... Not sure if you've heard of them, but they often block LOS (that's Line of Sight to all you noobs out there) and is difficult to get to someone in these death trap rooms. Yes, good strategy attack your enemy when they aren't attacking you back. Thanks Sun Tzu!

    Brilliant thoughts!

Nothing you say contradicts that oil is overpowered for what it is. Compare it to any other ability/effect in the game.

    1. You would be surprised how many players don't pay attention to their surroundings.
    2. My group can run from outside the keep to the inner top by the archers threw 10+ oil pots and not lose a member on the way.

The problems with your arguments is that it doesn't refute anything on the overpowered nature of oil pots. It simply does too much damage in too fast a time to too many players.

Your advice is don't stand in it. Which would be your same argument apparently if it did 100,000 damage per second.

You seem to pride yourself in the ability to group place tons of oil and not die. Apparently you want to turn pvp into "oil wars".

However, I'm not sure that is the productive to the entire pvp mechanic.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure real life flaming oil would be a near instant kill (or an instant take you out of the battle). And ya ya " then it should hurt you to" but then should all aoes hurt you too? No just use purge and stay away from oil pots.
