Do you really want arena PvP?

ESO is not WoW. I love this fact. I love large scale pvp with all the mindless serving and small groups of really good players that come with it. We do not need arenas, we need them to build on an already awesome pvp set up by adding new objectives and perhaps even a second campaign map. We deffo don't need arena, that, as the op said, is just fotm ***.

Arenas has nothing to do with WoW. I like PvP. All kinds. Small scale, large scale, AvA and 1v1. Why we cannot have options beats me, see my previous replies.

Sometimes, having options can be problematic as not every option gets the same attention.
In the case of arenas, it could mean severely harming Cyrodiil.
It doesn't mean Cyrodiil is bad, or that arenas are better, just that they are easier and have a lower skill ceiling which makes it popular for many players, yet not preferable. It would mean that they are missing out on the potential for growth a more open world gameplay would give them.

This is why a good solution to implementing arenas would be as a district of the imperial city.
It gives players a reason to fight AvA, an occasion to grow as a player and the option to play in an arena context.
    Everyone wins.

I can see what you mean, but I do not agree, at least entirely.

I think they way ESO tries to multitask development would enable a way for both, however, when they fail miserably your point becomes valid. This is due to problematic management, not an argument against a dual option or more even. Anyway, I don't want cyrodiil to suffer from this, but I think that, at least over time, it can actually improve cyrodiil play.

    We'll see what happens though.

I wasn't talking about dev resource attribution but how player population spread itself.
If you have a path of least resistance, players tend to take it, and arenas are such a thing.
I would play arenas sometimes too, and that's time I wouldn't be in Cyrodiil fighting for territory. Many wouldn't even try Cyrodiil if arenas existed, and this would severely hamper how Cirodiil can evolve.

If arenas are implemented as a reward for a victorious faction, it would use those tendencies to serve as a population balance tool.
A non trivial portion of the winning population of a campaign would disapear into PvE/Arenas unlocked in the imperial city, giving more chances for the two other factions to win back some land.

Not to mention how awesome the district capture mechanic can be. Imagine you're a fighter or a spectator at the arenas, and all of a sudden, you have to fend off an enemy invasion.
We could get 2 PvP modes added for the price of one.

Arenas would not interest me personally. But something akin to SWTOR's Warzones (8v8ish) is something I'd really get into. I'm mostly a PvE player but I ran warzones nightly in SWTOR.

Like others have mentioned though, I wouldn't want it to significantly impact cyrodill. That would be the challenge imo.

    Yes.
I would want arena, but no there should be no PvP specific gear.

    Yes.
Although the arena scenario seemed to be something put together quickly for QuakeCon, it looked like lots of fun, and I imagine with a few interesting maps it could even be a stand alone game.
