I respectfully disagree. I don't think there should be a distinction between being active in the game and active in the guild. At least not programmatically. (If the guild set standards and the members choose to enforce them, that's up to them.)I don't mean to pile on here, but if all you were doing was taking care of your horse and your crafting research then I feel like that doesn't really count as being active within the guild itself.

I've contacted customer support asking to be made guild leader and they've told me all they can do is contact the current guild leader and ask him to promote me. @ZOS_MichaelM Any chance I can get a promotion?

While we fully understand how frustrating this situation must be for a lot of the guild members, we are only able to remove Guild Masters under very specific conditions.
Please allow us to investigate this issue. If we believe a change is necessary, we will be happy to assist with transferring leadership from the inactive Guild Master.
This investigation as already been eased up by the information that you provided and we will only act on your order if the present situation maintains (where the guild master if away). If the investigation has a positive outcome, then the transfer will be possible.
Again, you should talk with the immediate officers that share the same position as you and draw an effective plan that will benefit and improve your community.
Should there be any other doubts or concerns that you may want to see addressed or clarified, please let us know and we will be more than happy to repay your passion for the game.
Thank you for contacting The Elder Scrolls Online Team.
Being a guild master myself, I understand how this situation is impacting your gaming experience. Please allow us to investigate this issue. If we believe a change is necessary, we will be happy to assist with contacting your inactive Guild Master.
However, please be aware that while the ability to change guild leaders does exist, recent changes to the guild system have made using that ability problematic at this time. It can actually destroy your guild's functionality. We hope to regain our ability to transfer guild leadership soon, but we currently lack a way to do so safely.
Thank you for your patience and understanding
Fair enough. I think what might matter more is how large the guild is and how many officers does it have and so on. If someone is basically THE guild leadership in a small guild, for instance, then I would like to see them actually take part in guild runs and just basically help out the others in the guild at least some of the time. But if the leadership is actually spread among 3-4 people or more and one of them has just been logging in to craft, etc, but doesn't participate in guild activities, then I don't see that being as much of a problem.Woogawoman wrote: »I respectfully disagree. Otherwise, someone at ZOS needs to provide a list of what activities count as "guild activity," so we can add them to our daily chore list to ensure we don't inadvertently encounter this problem.

In that case, try talking with those active in that guild, and leave to form a new guild, after all, if the guild leader and guild officers aren't there, they can't hear you discuss the situation.
All guilds need the guild leader to actually do stuff, like promote people, boot inactive members if there isn't enough space, arrange events, mediate disputes, arrange mentoring, etc.
