Guild Stolen?

So today ive just noticed that im no longer the guild leader of the guild I founded opening week. From what ive seen online zenimax can transfer leadership but ive logged on quite often, though it has mainly been to keep up on research and feed the horses. Ive also not seen any sort of mail from an admin asking what was going on? Now I know many players want a very active guild but ive wanted (and BUILT) a guild thats laid back, a small community of working class adults who dont have time to pour hours in each day. Awhile back a member asked for some permissions to get members up. I gave him a shot and now im seeing hes the GM?! Im absolutly livid. Can anyone explain what happened? How can I get my guild back?

Either you gave him guildmaster abilities (kick/ promote/ demote members) or maybe you got hacked

He could promote and demote, but it doesnt make sense that he could demote someone who out ranks him

That's just wrong. Shouldn't be able to happen. If you gave permissions or something and he took advantage of that then perhaps you have a petitionable event to take to ZOS. Whatever happens I wish you the best with this. It's just a crappy thing to have to deal with losing what is yours (IMO).

Good Luck in getting this resolved. I have left guilds where the Guild Leader was inactive for 2 months+ with 2 active officers.

Inactivity doesn't seem to be a cause unless something changed without me knowing.

Wasn't there a bug not long after launch, introduced by an early patch perhaps, that allowed promotion/demotion above one's own rank? Not being in any large guild I can't say I have any experience of this so could be way wrong.

If that is the case id imagine it would be a simple resolve. He was kind enough to leave a 'guild founder' note by my name in the roster as well

I know you don't like discussing problems to the public, but if this issue can happen to any guild, it is a public issue.

Is there any chance you can shed some light into:

    1. Why this happens.
    2. How to prevent it.

Thank you for any time given.

I doubt can happen to any guild. You have enhanced access rights to someone.
Trust none. Even when comes to bank, I would rather have 100 petitions, than give access to a second person.

Also as to the OP, my guess is the new "leader" promoted himself/ demoted you when the guild permissions bugged out after update 3 before they disabled functionality.

From what the email says, the new gm didnt exploit a glitch or anything. He simply just asked the admins to make him gm. And I should 'ask for it back'..

Glad you were able to work it out. But seriously am I reading this right? You weren't even inactive for a long period and someone asked the admins to hand over your guild so they just gave it to him no questions asked?

I wonder how often this happens.

For that to happened, the OP must had been offline for a long period of time or he set himself on offline mode a long time ago, so his activity shows offline for a long time. If that's not the case then we have a serious issue here on how CS is handling inactivity on Guild Leaders. :open_mouth:

This may be one of those cases where we don't know the whole story, but taken at face value based on what we do know, I'd like to think that if Customer Support received a request to depose a guild leader they would consult him first, either in-game if he's active or else by email - with a clear indication that if he didn't reply within X days they would accede to the request.

There is a legitimate question here on how the CS handled the situation and what were the general events that led to something like this. @rotenkid99 do you mind sharing what general info you can on the situation so others can avoid it?

While we are on the topic is there a way for me to take guild leadership in a guild I'm an officer of that the leader hasn't logged on in three months?

Properly? This should go through CS and hopefully they are able to get in touch with the current GM (via email?) But even that isn't foolproof. There should be certain durations of inactivity and timeframe between attempts at contact with current leadership before a guild can be handed off.

IMO if a guild leader decides to go inactive they should not give the guild to another. The players can just leave guild and create a new one.

I gave it a try we will see if they respond. If not the guild is basically dead in the water. He left before guild permissions were in place and even though I can invite people I wouldn't invite anyone to a guild that has an absentee leader.

That sucks! But I really like your style with no pressure guild attitude. I hate getting kicked out of guilds as I mainly use them for tradIing and they don't recognize this as being 'active'. If you ever gain control of your mutinous guild back, or start up a new one I'd be game to join. :-)

Change of guild control should always have to be supported with a vote of guild members. Don't need a system either, just do it by email. If guildmaster hasn't been active for a month or more I would be in support, but guildmaster should know this is happening.

I don't mean to pile on here, but if all you were doing was taking care of your horse and your crafting research then I feel like that doesn't really count as being active within the guild itself.
