No, why should it mean that? Remember the uproar over the vanity pets, the wolfhound, whatever, how many people screamed "but I've been subbing since before Moses was born, why don't I get any candy??" (sorry about the sarcasm). It could be that this "loyalty" program is an answer to that. This is candy for the long-term continuous subscribers. A badge of shame honor, as it were.

OP, you don't remember all the whining threads that flooded the forums over that dog and the Steam release? People were whining constantly about loyalty for a good week or more.

Obviously this is ZOS' response to that and not an indication the game is going free to play.

    I see the pattern:

    1. Whine
    2. Repeat 1 for a week
    3. Profit!

I am just curious what they exactly mean by staying subbed. I usually never sub for games. I buy gamecards all the way. Its just a better deal.
So what about that? Any official statement on that one?

i will always pay sub personally but do wonder if it might be good for the game to draw more folks in? Perhaps a free trial atleast get them hooked first.

anyway the more money they make the more content we get, just thought it was an interesting point to make in the road ahead.

I lol'ed. SWG was never free to play and had loyalty rewards. Vanguard had it for 24 months until they didnt have DEVS around to make new rewards. In fact i know many P2P mmo's who had it in the past.

It doesnt mean anything. It just means they can "trick" people into keep subbing because you might miss out on something cool. I am not sensitive to this though. I keep subbing because the game is awesome.

To OP - no, in any means it doesn't mean this game is going to be a cash shop disguised as ftp.
Like the others here I had witnessed what that has done to Lotro Swtor or Rift so just no for godness sake.

A great promotional tool would be for them to make PTS free; I mean if the Live game is going to have as many bugs as the PTS client ZOS might as well let those not subscribing fix it for us subscribers all the while allowing new customers try the game. Then they'll come over to the subscription model to play the Live game they fixed when PTS goes down.

I understand why they're introducing a loyalty system (whatever that involves in incentives). Why would a paying customer play to fix bugs and not progress their Live characters. I know I would never Beta Test while paying UNLESS it's rewarding enough.

I'd like to be able to run an animal shelter in game where everyone can drop off their unwanted pets - loyalty reward or otherwise. This has nothing at all to do with my main profession as a provisioner (cough).

I find this as likely as a particular burger chain going out of business because sometimes they mess up orders or their food sucks.

ESO will end up making billions and billions also.

If they left the game as it is right now, never did another content release or upgrade, they would still have enough people continuing as is and enough new people coming along to generate all the income they would ever need.

With things that continue to be wrong, there is more than enough to keep people occupied for a long, long time.

F2P's not gonna happen. It doesn't need to.

I find anyone hard pressed to say the game is not worth $15/month, all day long.

Oh boy, it must be getting really hard to find the right signs and portents for those who want to see, fear, or hope that ESO's going F2P in the foreseeable future. Some are so desperate, they will take anything as an omen. What will come next? Let's have a look.

Things and events that will be taken to mean ESO's going F2P soon:
    1. Paid character services will be introduced as DB tech advances
    2. Due to popular demand, a variety of new, differently colored horse coats will be made available in the store
    3. ZOS turns down to show up and showcase ESO at <insert parochial convention in some country here>
    4. The next MMO game releases
    5. The next expansion to any MMO game releases (any takers for the bet that this will come up in November?)
    6. The next game releases
    7. The next Road Ahead is either early, or late, or arrives precisely when it means to

    ;)

Its more akin to the FFXIV loyalty rewards from what I can tell if I read it correctly. You get vanity bonuses based on how many months you purchase - people who purchase more months at a time will acquire them before the people who only purchase by the month, but everybody will get them eventually.

It should also be noted that their system also is not a precursor to f2p, so if they are basing this program on FFXIV's program then there is nothing to worry about. If this is the case, I can see this being an easy win for ZOS, free vanity stuff is overwhelmingly positive for most MMOs.

The Loyalty Program is in response the cry babies who demanded that they be given pets and other rewards because they were already subscribed when ESO was released through Steam and gave NEW accounts a dog.

The Loyalty Program is in response to the cry babies who didn't get the pig because they couldn't afford, or didn't bother to go to, one of the Gamer Conventions.

The Loyalty Program has nothing to do with ESO going F2P now, or any time in the future.

How do you correlate loyalty rewards with F2P ??? Unless there's a trend with P2P going F2P after introducing loyalty rewards I see no correlation between the two topics. Just another silly thread about F2P.

Veteran or Loyalty rewards are nothing new. They are a way of keeping you subbed while you try something new and usually show up about the time the game might be getting direct completion (*cough* NEXT, Archage). This isn't not a direct path to Pay to Win (some call it Free to Play) but could indicate they are concerned about coming competing games.
