No, MMOs usually expand once or twice a year and raise level cap once or twice a year. It's usually part of major content expansions. And it's usually a chunky 5 or 10 levels.

This game has done it twice in 6 months as a part of patching in content that, arguably, should have been in the game at release but wasn't.

    There's a major difference.

Since the old trials are capped at V12 gear, I guess no one will run them anymore the second patch 1.4 is released

Like has been over and over the way they are doing it here is not common at all. We have interviews with devs saying the vet levels are going away completely, then we have them saying they are staying, then out of nowhere they are going up two levels a few weeks after most of the players just redid all their gear. If there was some reason they were going up I could understand it but I don't even get why they are going up at all, other than they think no one will do their content unless they force it on you.

With the announcement of the championship system, perhaps we were mislead into thinking that there would be no more VR levels added.

    Lo and behold VR14.

    What does this mean?

Everyone that thought VR12 would be the cap, now gets to upgrade gear again. The overall difference between VR12 and VR14 will probably be minimal, but if you're not wearing the best gear, you're not wearing the best gear.

Also, more level grinding! Everyone's favorite!

    Very disappointed in you, Zenimax!

    Don't worry.

The new magnificent zone will provide a lot of content nobody will touch with a stick BUT shall have super-grindable dumb VR14 bosses for grindy muppets to enjoy!

dude people are not griping about content troll elsewhere if you actually read what everyone is complaining about its having to grind more VR levels for more gear. People are pissed they are adding this garbage in instead of the champion system first. I think you just want to troll though you obviously havent read any of the complaints. It has ZERO to do with adding content.

Actually yes, I did read the comments... and that's all they were: complaints.

People want to plow through all the content with as little effort as possible to sit at the end stagnantly with their precious gear. (All while complaining that there is no content to do.)

Then some complain that they have to be social while leveling group content in a MMO....

All while complaining about improving gear...

If it were up to all these complainers we'd start the game at level cap with BIS gear.

You think once the Champion system is implemented it was just going to stop at the VR12 equivalent until the end of time?

You are missing the point again. It's not about 'the end of time', it's about enough time. Two months is not enough time. At least 6 months is.

Here is a big free hint ZOS if your content is good you don't have to force people in to new level caps for them to want to do it.

This is an MMO, people should expect gear progression regardless if it's with a lvl cap raise or not. MMO's are progressive changing games, if you're not happy with replacing your gear you really shouldn't be playing an MMO. If you don't want to replace something so expensive, then don't have it, it's the same as in real life. Do I cry every time Samsung bring out a new phone months after I get the latest phone, no? I get over it.

And all the people crying "omg more grind" no, all you have to do to get from V12-V14 is the same thing you're already doing in the game right now.Quit crying, like it's the end of the world, just because your gear won't be the absolute best for a while or you'll loose a some gold or crafting materials on getting the better gear.

There is a big difference in the traditional gear progression and just adding 2 to the VR number on the gear and saying here is your new gear it now has 6 more armor and 2 more magicka but is exactly the same gear otherwise.

Any other MMO adds a 5 level increase once every couple of years. Here I have to grind up a level a month, effectively.

I can't keep doing that. This is probably the one thing that could drive me away.

At WOW you grind item levels, here you grind char levels. Personally I hate item grinds but don't mind if my chars can get stronger by gaining new levels.

If you don't like it then there is an item grinder just around the corner.

I hope that ZO will never stop giving us new goals in the game which are not based on purple items but char development ;)

I am just tired of running after new loot every 2-3 months just to find that exact game becoming worthless with a new patch.

Wow ZOS is trolling hard, they just updated all gears so everybody had to craft another set cause they *** old theorycraft. And now they raise cap to VR14 so everybody have to craft their gear again! WTF

I want you to refund all my wasted legendary mats. I dont want to farm materials all day long again. AMAZING GAMEPLAY. GG ZOS

And I've just resubbed, I wont do same mistake twice.

As a solo player, I am very disappointed. Just like before, people will find a grind point and drive that into the ground in a few hours. I desperately WANT solo content to do at my own pace. But Zenimax doesn't want me to be able to play my way. They want to force me to conjure a miracle and find a group to do Craglorn content where we are all on the same stage (whose bright idea was it to make group leveling content a quest chain!?).

PvP leveling needs a three fold increase in xp to compete with exp. No excuses.

You people realize powercreep is really hard to do in a game with Softcaps right?
If you're already hitting softcaps on your stats, going from VR12 to 14 is going to do very little for you.

Hell the the Legendary VR14 weapons are 144 damage..that's such an insanely small difference between VR12 and that....then you factor in its so incredibly easy to softcap your weapon damage in the first place that its nothing.

If you've got legendary Vr12 gear right now, There is zero reason to upgrade your gear after the patch other then your emotional problems of thinking you're going to somehow lose a fight because of that.

Hell I'm using 5 pieces of VR11 gear right now....and i'm still not going to upgrade after the patch...

I can't believe how casually ESO players throw that word around. There is no "grind" in ESO. Just because something takes more than 5 minutes doesn't make it a "grind". You want to see a grind, then go play EQ through some hell levels. Until then, stop calling new zones, quests, dungeons, and raid content a "grind".

I guess that is kind of the point isn't it? If the level increase doesn't have any practical application to the game why is it being put in? It seems to me the only reason they are adding it is to get people to do the new Craglorn areas. If the area has merit on its own you don't have to force people to do it they will want to do it.

My only concern on gear is are enchants going to change and am I going to have to get higher enchanting to enchant VR14 gear.

Honestly, this is what will kill the game for me. If I spend countless hours collecting materials and building my character, only to have every addition to the game make all the gear I make less than the best, I will lose interest. At some point, I want to reach the top and stay there. If that top is never reachable, I'll reach a point where I'll just stop playing. Grinding sucks and so does any game that makes the grind its primary objective. Bare minimum, we need the ability to modify already existing gear to increase level. Why would I spend all my materials getting gear to legendary if after the next expansion, it will always be lower than the top level? Pointless waste of materials.

I JUST hit vr12 and crafted a set of legendary gear with the mats I have been saving forever. I feel like v12 just came out not that long ago.

If this is how often the level cap is increasing then I'm just going to unsub... this game is so much fun but I can't stand the constant gear grind and level grind. I need longer periods of time to enjoy what I have worked so hard for and enjoy the other fun things like achievements, completionist stuff, pvp, social stuff, etc.

I don't mind working towards new gear every so often like you know every 6 months or so, and leveling up again every few years... but for Gods sake the game is only like 4-5 months old... and we are already talking about a second increase in max level? STOP IT!

That is a whole 4 levels with no alternative solo friendly option. Don't like that one bit. No objection to any group content but there should also be reasonable alternatives. I can't do much group content because l have some limits on the use of my hands. I cannot deal with fast moving group quests. I need to stop often. As the game is now l am stopped in my tracks at vr10.

Yeap , i also feel like this.

The devs are pretty much telling all PvE player to group or stop playing the game.

You know something that suits TES better than level and gear hrinds?

Like new story content and stuff that you may or may not do with hroup.. Something that grouping is option, not necessity.

Raising the cap twice, 5 months into the game's life, is ridiculous. Everyone JUST upgraded all their gear because the sets and bonuses changed in 1.3. We don't need level caps to go up, we need stuff to do and we need the bugs fixed. PvP is a joke. Cyrodiil is not even playable with the bugs and lag.
