Just was sort of wanting to put in a complaint about this... I partially understand but also hate it myself much more myself... Mostly it was just that how the areas are designed to force you forwards constantly in the gameplay, after so many levels in difference mobs stop dropping rewards besides the disguises... It might not be so much of an issue at first but in my own case I reached Alik'r Desert at close to 40th level from trying to get everything done from previous areas, and i've never even touched the Cyrodil campaign myself... So the problem is from the story point of view I "have" to get everything done, but from my own view it's causing me to ask myself "why should I bother with this", after there's more than a 5 lvl gap goodies stop dropping and XP stops too I believe...
So I have these problems:
1- I have to go to the -next- zones if I want to get gear to use and goodies/loot/drops
2- I'm being forced to decide between what I "should" be doing story-wise and being punished for it, or to skip ahead and be punished that certain endings I won't be able to see, and also past choices not being properly reflected in the later storyline. If I try to get the most out of the story/area I will lose a lot of resources since I don't get gold or anything from monsters to afford equipment repairs; if I die I have to use a higher level soul gem that can only be filled from the next area ahead or purchase a charged one from the merchant for a very costly price.
Overall i'm not receiving anything really from fighting or dealing with monsters in Alik'r at the moment, I do get quest rewards but if it's one i'm dying a lot on is it really worth all that loss? It just feels very counterproductive(if this is the right word to use?) since what is the point of being the 'hero' if you aren't getting anything from it? Then also the other problem that i'll be missing the outcomes from not completing quests and their outcomes in the area and later areas.
3- Cyrodil/PVP, it's probably a fun aspect of the game, I haven't tried it at all yet honestly but with the new campaigns i've found out there's a low-level campaign that's for Non-Veteran characters only, I really loved the sound of that since it meant I wouldn't immediately be killed off by a V12 character of another faction and that I may have a chance of getting some of the Cyrodil goodies/achievements without being killed quite as much... But I found this out when i'm now at level 46, so I only have 4 levels to get what i'd like to get done before i'm forced into the mixed campaigns, and this is where i'll be getting XP from everything I have to kill to get around to the quests and skyshards, and also the big chunks of xp themselves from finishing the quests... On top of that too there's the very small possibility that if I do well enough to get emperor for the campaign, as soon as I hit Veteran I will get kicked out of the campaign and lose all that work I put in towards it. (and it does sound like someone did have this happen to them already recently)
I understand why some of this was done, but it's also causing frustration as well, kind of almost wishing there was an option to "level-lock" yourself if you wanted to work on an area you were in without being shoved into the next area before you finished what you wanted to do.
