Forced Advancement?

Just was sort of wanting to put in a complaint about this... I partially understand but also hate it myself much more myself... Mostly it was just that how the areas are designed to force you forwards constantly in the gameplay, after so many levels in difference mobs stop dropping rewards besides the disguises... It might not be so much of an issue at first but in my own case I reached Alik'r Desert at close to 40th level from trying to get everything done from previous areas, and i've never even touched the Cyrodil campaign myself... So the problem is from the story point of view I "have" to get everything done, but from my own view it's causing me to ask myself "why should I bother with this", after there's more than a 5 lvl gap goodies stop dropping and XP stops too I believe...

So I have these problems:
1- I have to go to the -next- zones if I want to get gear to use and goodies/loot/drops
2- I'm being forced to decide between what I "should" be doing story-wise and being punished for it, or to skip ahead and be punished that certain endings I won't be able to see, and also past choices not being properly reflected in the later storyline. If I try to get the most out of the story/area I will lose a lot of resources since I don't get gold or anything from monsters to afford equipment repairs; if I die I have to use a higher level soul gem that can only be filled from the next area ahead or purchase a charged one from the merchant for a very costly price.
Overall i'm not receiving anything really from fighting or dealing with monsters in Alik'r at the moment, I do get quest rewards but if it's one i'm dying a lot on is it really worth all that loss? It just feels very counterproductive(if this is the right word to use?) since what is the point of being the 'hero' if you aren't getting anything from it? Then also the other problem that i'll be missing the outcomes from not completing quests and their outcomes in the area and later areas.
3- Cyrodil/PVP, it's probably a fun aspect of the game, I haven't tried it at all yet honestly but with the new campaigns i've found out there's a low-level campaign that's for Non-Veteran characters only, I really loved the sound of that since it meant I wouldn't immediately be killed off by a V12 character of another faction and that I may have a chance of getting some of the Cyrodil goodies/achievements without being killed quite as much... But I found this out when i'm now at level 46, so I only have 4 levels to get what i'd like to get done before i'm forced into the mixed campaigns, and this is where i'll be getting XP from everything I have to kill to get around to the quests and skyshards, and also the big chunks of xp themselves from finishing the quests... On top of that too there's the very small possibility that if I do well enough to get emperor for the campaign, as soon as I hit Veteran I will get kicked out of the campaign and lose all that work I put in towards it. (and it does sound like someone did have this happen to them already recently)

I understand why some of this was done, but it's also causing frustration as well, kind of almost wishing there was an option to "level-lock" yourself if you wanted to work on an area you were in without being shoved into the next area before you finished what you wanted to do.

However, you will also see people complaining in zone and on these forums that they are underleveled but claim to have done everything. Syncing leveling to a customers play style is tricky business. It's too late for this game, perhaps, but there are some ways this can be done. I always look at the game features before I buy and the leveling method is on my list of must know in advance.

The way leveling works in this game is very much standardized across most MMO's. Mobs themselves give very little exp, however quests provide the majority of the xp gain. Thus it's quest completion that mostly determines syncing a players level vs the content/zones they are moving through.

I knew this before I bought the game, that my completionist and looking in every nook & cranny on the map play style was going to mean I get to final zones later than most players. Also, that I would likely be over leveled.

Anyways, the solution(s) like I said are probably never going to happen in this game, but I'll post the two I would love to someday see in an MMO but so far it's just a utopian fantasy because devs don't listen:
    1 - zone autoleveling like in GW2
2 - a hardness setting for xp and combat in pve like all solo games get, going back to the 1970's, but for some mysterious reason MMO's fail to adopt

I agree, on my templar I'm level 36 and just finished Alik'r, but I skipped almost all of Rivenspire and Stormhaven. On my main I was constantly over leveled for the quests, starting around the time I finished Glenumbra.

Perhaps the fix is something as simple as doubling the level cap, so you can still get loot when 12 levels higher.

Sorry for the late reply, thanks for the responses x.x; I do hear people still complaining about quests or zones being too hard for them but I kind of wonder if they are doing mostly solo work or are actually going with other people since that drops down the difficulty by a ton... I think the class/skill combinations are another thing and if you are practiced or used to fighting and combat to be able to see the visual cues for the different attacks being done.

Mostly am still hoping for something that might be changed, and i'm still wondering how to get those "trophy" items for achievements too, if they are vet only drops or are they for all levels in all zones?

You still get a kill count towards those achievements even if you are over leveled.

I have gotten two Trophy drops at sub VR levels, so they are in all zones. But, I doubt you get one if the mob would otherwise not drop any loot if it was too low a level.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I meticulously scour all zones myself and find the quests keep getting greener and greener until they're mostly all grey. I still do the quests even if I'm not getting "fully" rewarded but I would really like to have an option to shut off leveling experience for mobs so I can keep the quest difficulty more applicable to my current character level.

Also, what's the deal with higher level creatures, *as in many levels above me*, not dropping any loot and awarding experience? I understand the philosophy if they're "out leveled" (grey) not dropping loot but "over leveled?" ...though, it did seem like the creature I was fighting (literally 15 levels above me) was scaled closer to my actual level. Kind of odd. I expected to be killed instantly but I was curious if I could take it. I don't think I lost a single HP and I defeated it in under four seconds. Silly.

Just craft your own gear....your not going to "find" anything better from here on out. I craft every 5 lvl or so...This way since I know the loot is nothing more then materials it doesn't matter. You can then play each area fully and not worry about drops....just saying
