Non morphed skills. Are they effective?

Question. I am currently using Solar Flare which is at rank 4... I dont want to morph to dark flame since i want to keep original visual intact and i dont want to morph to other since it loses the range i want.

In unmorphed state, will this skill be effective throuh the game with lacking only the new effects of morph?

Dark Flare looks pretty much the same as Solar Flare (It's still a ball of light, it doesn't turn into a ball of darkness like the icon suggests), so morph it.

if the visual is more important than its function to you then keep it as is.

Well.. I suppose i COULD try it out and morph it now... The longer i wait, the more expensive this will become...

Yes, Visuals are as important to me as function. This is why there are certain spells like magelight i wont use.

    True story:

once I realized how much of a pain it was to reset for some morph changes, it made me take opposite morphs just so I had the option to reset into other morphs without having a cruddy low level skill in higher level content.

Don't be afraid to take a morph and level it up.

Respeccing my main cost only 6500g which is nothing at that level....having the option to change a morph (which might be added in the future) and not have to spend a ton of time grinding it out is going to be really nice.

Also keep in mind....skill points are never in a shortage. I haven't gotten all the sky shards, and quite a few skill point quest in the VR content....I have 4 crafts, I have just about every skill I could think of using, and morphed...I have like 18 skill points collecting dust.

I have yet to respec. My VR1 Vampire Witch has taken maybe one point I regret.

Just spent about 2 hours deciding whether to take the Pulsar or Ring morph on the Destro Staff Impulse skill. I took Pulsar after a lot of research.

These are surprisingly hard choices sometimes :)

Even with so many available skill points.

The total amount of skillpoitns avalible as never been an issue.
Morphs and the all-or-nothing aspect of respecc have been the issue from the beginning.

You hardly respecc for big changes, but often for changes of the Morphs you choose.
Note that the Respecc cost was droped to 1% the week after 1.3.3 went live and is now 50% for keeps. And some more granular respeccing is in work.

    How effective are they:
Morphed skills start in power where Rank 4 unmorphed ended.
Also Moprhed skills get an extra effect.
So unmorpehd is always less usefull then morphed, wich does not mean it is useless. Just not quite as usefull.

I recommend picking the morph. If you like the Flare effect, Dark flare is just a better version. Its still pretty flarey. I'm actually training up Dark flare right now, but for the last 56 levels of my character I used Solar Barrage. I love solar barrage. I really miss Solar Barrage. Its a nice melee range debuff which I imagine would be great for both caster as well as tanker types. It pairs well with a lot of other high damage abilities at close range like biting jabs, impulse, etc. It really depends on what you enjoy. I don't like buildup abilities, so for me Solar Barrage is an easy choice.

The problem with dark flare is the cast time. Makes it garbage IMO.
