AltusVenifus✭✭✭I know the game is supposed to be play as you want. But if you want an easier time in the current state of the game go light armor and staves and focus on magic crit. Your class isn't underpowered, melee weapon skills, medium armor, heavy armor, melee crit and fighters guild skills are underpowered, with the exception of a few.
If you look at the game, and think it is unfair that my build doesn't work, many agree with you, but I would suggest respect to something that does work until the time comes when they fix it

I was seriously considering changing my character altogether. I've dedicated so much time in this one profile and I don't like the idea of stopping it right there in its tracks.
If this is the case then what you you guys recommend for me? I'm not fussed in game play or style but just the class itself.
NBs are the new master race, because of its DPS and PvP capabilities. However as far as rolling over the leveling content trash, DKs are still probably the best at that and if your struggling with it then there is a problem.PC NA

1. Light armor better than heavy or med
2. Insane aoe's
3. Can out tank a DK if built right
4. Dummy proof PvP god, spam impulse,bat swarm and mop up 20 players for no sweat AP
5. Don't have to mix and match armor for skill pools; see number one
6. Fairy wand skills are the only weapon lines that have no really bad skills
However!!
The downside
1.Fairy wand and ankle length dress's are very swishy , you will have to skill up clothing craft to make jerkins if you don't want to look like little Bo Peep
That's it !!!...

Out there I see all other classes taking on a few mobs at a time (especially the mages) without much of a struggle, however when I'm in their situation I seem to barely make it or just end up dying anyway in the end.
I'm a Dunmer with your basic sword and shield with a whole set of Daedric heavy armor with the fire whip, ash cloud, obsidian shield, shield charge, silver bolts and the Corrosive armor ability.
Am I doing something wrong here or am I not being strategic enough?

You are not being strategic, or your attributes are wonky...I dunno. I am a HA sword and board DK and I own face in all VR zones I have yet tried up to Greenshade. I don't have a staff.

Sighlynce✭✭✭I play a dk lvl 22 and I'm doing ok ! definitely not winning all the battles . Wears med/heavy armor . Do the two wield instead of s&b . So I have to get rt up there in battle and I use a lot of food ! much better than potions, they last longer and potions can be used to top off what you need. try Rodent Muffins they increase max health by 156 for 35 mins, jerked Rodent increase max stamina by 156 for 35 mins and squeak Soup increase max magicka by 156 for 35 mins. In EP so pretty much everything has rodent parts rt now! But I'm sure every zone has something similar

Obscure✭✭✭✭✭The rules of end game and PvP in ESO:
1. Respec into light armor, kudos if you did 1-50.
2. Respec into a Resto Staff a Destro Staff and Sword n Board. Again kudos if you did 1-50.
3. Respec all of your attributes to about 40 magicka, 9 Health, ignore stamina entirely or decidicate 10 points at most to it for a 30M, 9H, 10S spread.
4. Enchant your armor entirely with health enchants and make sure it's impenetrable for PvP. Also be sure to pick good set bonuses for magicka sustain.
5. Enchant your jewelry with resist physical harm to cap out your armor, and your spell resist should already be capped.
6. Enchant your weapons to leach magicka and make sure they are sharpened trait to bypass enemy spell resist.
7. Now just adjust your skills on your bar according to what your doing, since you now have a base to perform every role in the game at optimal capacity.
You had your fun in playing how you wanted 1-50. You reach VR level you conform to the meta game or you struggle. Everything is balanced based on how well a magicka specialization of any class can perform. End game is for Mage play styles and with the coming addition of Spell Crafting, your desire to make anything other than that play style a viable thing in ESO is a delusion at best...at worst deliberately suffering for the sake of it.3 -

✭Try switching out silver bolts with inhale. For the VR content, you need some AoE or high single target dps. You won't find very high single target dps with the dragonknight so AoE is the way to go.
The AoEs really help.
I managed to finish Caldwell's gold (main quest line in every zone through VR10) using a DW DK in Med armor before the VR nerf. I wasn't "facerolling" mobs, but the only ones I had problems with were groups of 3 or more. Depending on the group, I would AoE spam them to kill them fast, or I would root them with talons and position myself so I could not be attacked by more than one or two at a time, then just pick them off. Sometimes using obsidian shard to keep one mob on his butt would help too. Rooting and positioning were very helpful in general survivability, although it's not very effective against mobs with ranged attacks.0 -

My Vampire Witch runs 5 light and 2 medium and is facerolling VR. Medium Chest and Pants adds just the right amount of armor, sneak, critical and stamina passives. Easily makes up for a bit of magic regen and spell resistance that I can add other ways if I want. Spell power is what I want and I keep it just at softcap these days.

mertusta✭✭✭✭As a templar, i think you have no idea about dragonknights. I created new character, dark elf dk, and i can kill a group of mobs in craglorn on my own. hold up your shield, wear light armor, spam talon, cast standart of might, talon talon talon and all dead. too easy.1 -

Hi, I perfectly understand what you mean. People here roll their eyes when reading your post because they are used to think of magicka-based DKs in dress and destro staff, which can be quite powerful against mobs, but are are total abomination of a DK in my eyes.
Your problem is that you are playing a classic DK (heavy armor and stamina based). The main issue with this game is that that build, even if very tough against bosses (it makes a reasonable tank in dungeons), can require some tactics against mobs.
My suggestions are: 1) get green dragon blood (GDB), that skill will restore a lot of your health and speed up stamina recovery; 2) if you don't have a lot of magicka avoid other magicka-based abilities, they will consume the precious magicka needed to activate GDB when you need it; 3) get immovable, from the heavy armor skill line, that will boost armor and spell resistance by a lot and it's stamina based; 4) get petrify, and use it on the tougher enemy on a mob (typically one in heavy armor, but keep in mind that it doesn't work on the big bosses with three marks on their health-bar) while you quickly kill the weak squishy ones (e.g., mages and archers).
Playing a classic DK can be fun, and even satisfying, because it requires some thinking, not just the spamming of one skill. However, I understand it can be frustrating when you see a mage or a templar kill the same mob in 3 seconds, and all they do is spamming a magic attack a couple of times.

✭OP, I don't want to play Captain Obvious here, but getting to VR12 and equipping yourself with gold-quality gear/enchantments will make a HUGE difference. I'm referring specifically to PvP here.
If you're sub-VR12, I think most folks here would recommend that you either utilize a build that's designed to work WITH the zerg, or focus on siege gear. I never thought I would hear someone say this, just awhile ago people were saying the Dragon Knight was OP. Although I agree that melee combat is a bit weak right now and it is hard to compete with mages, I don't think the class itself is weak at all.1 -

It can seem daunting and sometimes feel like you're not making a dent in mobs, but a melee DK can be most effective.
Try dual-wielding, and get the ability that bleeds the enemy as well as healing you (sorry, can't remember the name of it right now) and razor armour + green dragon's blood is your friend. Using these will get you through a multi-mob fight easily.
I also use a two-handed weapon, but it still applies and both can feel more than adequate. You also need to be strategic in blocking/killing the biggest damage dealer first.
Also, potions are vital, especially in those "oh dear" situations.
I'm not a pro by far, and I have been able to make it to the high VR levels with my melee DK without much bother. So it is doable, and I wish you the best of luck.

AtriasNaradan✭✭✭1. Take heavy armor, because it looks cool, more armor, more health passive.
2. Take S+B and Bow
3. Set Charge, Absorb Magic/Circle of Protection, Green Dragon Blood, Volatile Armor, Sea of Flames, and Standard of Might for S+B.
4. Set Magnum Shot/ Silver Bolts, Magnum Shot, Green Dragon Blood, Volatile Armor, Molten Armaments, and Soul Strike/Meteor for Bow.
Use Bow for 3 and less mobs and bosses, S+B for 4 and more mobs. The S+B set literally big mobs killer on PvE, especially when most mobs contain of melee dealer. Just use charge (prefferably to range dealer foe), then cast Volatile Armor, Circle of Protection, and Sea of Flames, use Green Dragon Blood to heal when necessary, re-cast Volatile Armor when necessary, cast Standard of Might whenever its up.
Sea of Flame is a great ultimate recharge, and Standard of Might makes you almost invincible on PvE. Also every kill you make on enemies affected by Sea of Flames will restore a good amount of your Magicka (i almost always finish mobs killing with 70%-95% magicka left).
This is how i play it the way i like it, and it makes VR areas (Caldwell silver and gold) like a walk in the park...i can even solo'd public dungeon and group dungeon mobs (not boss) with the tank. The only reason i need companions is because i can't kill public & group dungeon and dolmen bosses on my own.0 -

What do we poor DKs have?
Banner: Nerfed.
Talons: Nerfed 2 or 3 times and even more nerfed with CC changes.
Syrabane build: Nerfed => useless.
