Two of you not receiving as many motif drops since the patch is not confirmation that they aren't dropping at the same rate. It's reasonable to assume that if a container has a chance to drop an epic item that an increased recipe drop rate may decrease the epic motif drop rate at the same time. However, we have no confirmation that this is what's happened.

I know I've had weeks between rare drops, and then I've had 5 in an hour, all during the same patch cycle. Random is random.
No it's definitely down, might even be non-existent for VR5 motifs. If there is a chance, it feels about the same as the former purple recipe chance now (as in, don't see them at all). It's like the coder guy just swapped out the "chance" slot for purple recipes to VR5 motifs.I'd wait for more evidence before coming to a conclusion about the drop rates though. Seems like every patch there are people who like to sound the alarm in zone chat so they can get people to pay inflated prices on the stuff they're selling.
They've always been in urns.stefan.gustavsonb16_ESO wrote: »Hmm. Motifs may just have changed spawn points. Yesterday I found one in a random small urn in Bleakrock. I have found no motifs lately at all in the places where they used to spawn like crazy (desks and nightstands).

Lol no you didn't after a lot of testing I'm100% certain that upon your first purple recipe or motif dropping even if you didn't pick it up you would have triggered a cool down.
The cool down currently seems somewhere between 2 and 5 hours so 5 in one hour I call bs.
As for the op I thought the same thing but they haven't been. The problem is in a vet zone container now there are only 2 motifs you could drop and 6 recipes that could drop any one of which will trigger the above cool down.
Compared to before where the purple recipes where not in the loot.
Of course the real problem is finding motifs and recipes in "civilized" containers instead of off of mob drops; the whole idea of motif/recipe/map farming by looting town containers is ridiculous. Hi I am doing awesome adventuring by looting peoples kitchen cabinets and underwear drawers.
BUT ZoS has never bothered to fix the basic issue where they would drop elsewhere in sufficient numbers. I have never found a motif except by looting in civilized areas and my farming was haphazard at best.

Please, please, please, please, please tell me where you found out about this mysterious cooldown period. Because this is the first I'm hearing about it.
Honestly, if any of you are taking classes in statistics or probability, start paying more attention to your teachers. And never go to Vegas.

I've gotten motifs from shacks/houses in "uncivilized" parts. The general rule seems to be that a motif can be found in domestic containers, regardless of where they appear in the world. But just to clear up some over-generalizations in your post:
- Motifs and style materials tend to drop from trunks/cabinets/wardrobes/dressers/etc.
- Ingredients and recipes can drop in all of those, and also in crates/sacks/cupboards/barrels.
- Treasure maps can only drop from locked chests.
It definitely got nerfed or it's broken.
I have a spot where I get Daedric and Ancient Elf on the regular. Prior to 1.3.3 I could get 1 of these motifs per hour. Post 1.3.3 I have yet to see a single vet motif. Since then I have got several purple recipes, yet no motifs. I thought it was just me, but after 2 days of straight farming and over several thousand containers, I have yet to get one.
As I said before, like clockwork I could average 1 motif per hour prior to 1.3.3.
@ZOS_JessicaFolsom please look into this.
I found a motif in a urn in a dungeon ones, might also found one in a trunk in a dungeon.nerevarine1138 wrote: »Of course the real problem is finding motifs and recipes in "civilized" containers instead of off of mob drops; the whole idea of motif/recipe/map farming by looting town containers is ridiculous.
