Guild Traders, Buy Only?

I don't know if it is intended or not, but I can only buy from other guilds through their traders. Am I not able to sell to them because I'm not in their guild? Or is it just a bug left over from the recent post patch unpleasantness?

Guild traders are a service that sell for a guild, and those guilds has to bid for the guild trader. So it doesn't make sense for them to buy off you.

If you like a guild that you buy from just join that guild.

On the face of it, this was a bit of a silly expectation. However, I have often wondered if Buy Orders would be introduced. Now that we have guild stands I think this would be a pretty cool evolution them. I don't think selling to them at your requested price would be good, but a guild could put in a price they are accepting certain items at. Anyone who plays EVE will know what I'm talking about.

They could add the default buy function that other vendors have, just as a one-stop-shop.

The sold items would neither go into the guild bank, nor the gold removed from the guild coffers.
Just because you don't like the way something is doesn't necessarily make it wrong...

Yes. This is working as intended. Keep in mind that even if you were a member of the guild, you'd only be able to list items for sale in the store, not actually sell them on the spot.

Also, a good number of the traders is very close to regular merchants, so you can just go to a merchant, sell your stuff, then buy stuff from the guild store.

I'm not sure how I feel about adding a default buy function, but the Buy Orders thing sounds interesting.

This is what I meant. I'm sorry I didn't articulate well in the op. I just wanted to know if I had more places to put my stuff for sale.

I see. No, you still need to be a member of the guild (after all the guild spent a lot of gold bidding for that trader). But it will give you a good idea on which guilds are serious trading guilds and you can ask to join the ones where your stuff will move faster.

To put it simply: if you could list your items in a guild store even though you're not part of that guild then there would be no advantage to being in the guild that paid for the merchant. If there's no advantage to being in the guild that pays for the merchant, then why would guilds bid on the merchants?

Of course, if the guild stores had 2 separate listings for items to be sold, then it would be possible to make a situation that would let you list items for sale in a different guild store while still giving members of the guild an advantage and a reason to bid on a merchant.

Here's how I would do it: when listing an item for sale in your own guild's store you can choose to list it publicly or guild-only, or both. The "public" option would make that item available for purchase by any guild members or by non-guild members if your guild has a merchant. The "guild-only" option is self explanatory. The "both" option would be just like the "public" option, but would allow you to set a lower price for guild members. If that system was in place, then non-guild members could be given the option of listing an item with a guild through their merchant, but only the "guild-only" option would be available to them. That way the item is available for guild members to buy if they want it, without being available for non-guild members. Guild members still get the advantage of being able to sell to a wider audience through the merchant they have paid for, and get the additional advantage of being able to buy items listed by non-guild members, while the non-guild members don't get to sell to the wider audience that guild-members do, but they still are able to list their items.
