Update 3 Issues

    @Scotilla1 - Take out all your frustrations right here. That is part of the purpose of this discussion. If I were taking a look at this from the standpoint of knowing nothing about Zenimax my first guess would be that the problem would be your internet connection but this is probably not the case because I have run into the same issue with just this game. Not as extreme as this but still when I downloaded Update 3 it stalled out on me several times. The way I got it to restart was to pause the download when it would stall out, exit the launcher completely then go back in and it would scan what it had already downloaded and then resume the download where it left off. I had to do this 3 or 4 times and it only happens with this game. My other downloaded games never had issues like this so I know it is not an internet connection problem. It has something to do with the transfer of information from Zenimax's servers to your computer. It is a problem on their end of the spectrum and I would be willing to bet it is because they keep making the game bigger and bigger and their servers are getting maxed out with all the traffic. As I mentioned in an earlier comment Zenimax is still creating this game. What they really need to do now is stop and clean up the mess they have made so the game as it is will be enjoyable for everyone instead of creating more content that just makes things worse.

    Thanks for your comments. I have a high end computer (16gb memory 500gb SSD etc etc) The computer and my network will download other material at 1000 - 1800 kb/s. It is only Zenimax that currently has a maximum of 110kb/s. When facing a 3.5gb download that is ridiculous - especially when they offer no other alternatives. My subscription renewal date is tomorrow so

    @Scotilla1 - Hey there. Thanks for your input on your situation. Looks like you are at a point of having to make a decision on renewing your subscription at a very critical time. Because of Zenimax's problems you can't get Update 3 installed and now you are faced with a choice of renewing your subscription or not. Here is what I would do. Cancel the subscription and try to get Update 3 installed if possible. If you have a Gamestop store in your area or any store that specializes in the sales of video games they probably sell Elder Scrolls Online Gametime gift cards. If you get Update 3 installed successfully go to one of these stores and get a card. They cost $29.99 and give you 2 months of prepaid game time and you don't have to have a subscription. This is a much easier way to manage all that anyways and it keeps Zenimax from tapping your credit card or debit card. Anyways keep ventilating your frustrations. It is the only way to get Zenimax to listen. If enough people stop playing because Zenimax refuses to listen to their customers the game will simply go out of business and they will lose that part of their operation.

    @Ashur_Breakblad - Yeah, I have an Iron Greatsword and on my back it is straight but when I pull it out to attack it is S shaped. Curved. So something is definitely affecting a weapon's shape.

    @Rune_Relic - LOL! Some Skyrim humor. I like that. Yeah after you complete a quest in Skyrim having to do with Alik'r Warriors some of the town guardsmen start saying something like now we have warriors from Hammerfell strutting about with curved swords. My new Iron Greatsword has about 4 curves in it thanks to whatever Update 3 did to the game. They may have made it this way on purpose to give the weapon a new look. I don't know but others are reporting odd shaped weapons as well.

    The Coldharbor quest 'The Endless War' is bugged, cannot plant seeds on the corpses.

    Bow animation and damage seems boned, as well. I shot stuff three times, twice with Snipe and nothing... then all of a sudden: Death. It annoys.

    @Azzuria - LOL! Kudos on the Bread Arm. That picture is pretty funny but if you look at it closely you can see the new graphics. They are much more defined and vibrant colors but graphics like this don't make a game function right. That has to be a loaf of bread on his arm but how did it get there is the question.

    I haven't done that Coldharbor quest yet and probably won't be until I get my new system. I am letting the game go and putting all available funds into a save up for a new computer so I can run games like this unlimited but I am still going to stick around on the forums and all that. I am glad I started this one. It has generated lots of good discussion and brought out issues that readers will know about that are caused by Update 3. It is good to have a place where you can come and discuss your findings, observations and frustrations from the game without the fear of judgment or ridicule that some sites I know of allow. The Steam Workshop is one of the worst. Modders get torn apart everyday on that site by people who get their kicks out of cutting down mods. If I don't like a mod I simply don't use it. I don't leave behind a trashed talked comment for the creator to deal with and on my mods when someone does that to me I delete their comment so its like it never existed.

    Thank you for sharing your findings on the quest. The more input we get like this the more it will affect Zenimax. They need to understand that the size of the game doesn't matter. If it is unplayable it doesn't matter how large it is it will go out of business and I don't think Zenimax wants that. If I were in charge of the company I would have my developers working on all the issues that are in the game as it is right now instead of adding more stuff to it.

    @ZOS_CatK - That is what this discussion is all about. I personally created it to get people to report issues so that those issues can be worked on and fixed. I know I personally may have seemed to come down hard on Zenimax but I was trying to get your attention and say hey look if this stuff isn't fixed it could cause the demise of the game and none of us want that.

    Personally I am letting the game go for a while until I can get a new computer. I need one really bad and I when I get one the game will still be there and I can pick up where I left off.

    All of this is meant for construction. We the players are saying hey this is what is going on with the game and it needs to be fixed. None of us want to see the game go under but if these issues are not brought to light, discussed and acted upon by Zenimax more and more people are going to walk away and if too many quit then the game will go under and we don't want that.

    I appreciate someone from Zenimax taking notice of this discussion. Keep your eyes on it as more and more folks are probably going to post issues to it as they come up and I'll try not be so harsh anymore on the company. I've gotten your attention and now you know what is going on.

    I need to chime in with a report as well. I just have no screenshot. But I keep having critical art data errors. Usually what happens is, that the debug window opens like every half hour. I usually "ignore once" and keep playing. What I really do detect is some "missing" boxes in the game world. What could cause such an error? The repair tool found nothing. Is this a problem with my Harddisk? Or is it related to the Memory Leak story I keep hearing?

    I filed like 4 or 5 debugging reports. But sometimes I prefer to keep playing ;)

    @Pendrillion - That is and has been an issue for me as well. I get red "missing" boxes where an object should be. I don't know what causes it to happen in ESO but as a modder I can tell you what it is and what causes it in other games. An object is a drawn 3D model called a Mesh and when you get a missing mesh error it puts it in the game visually as a red box with the "missing" in white writing on it. The game is saying hey something is supposed to be here but it isn't. With the other Elder Scrolls games you would only get these errors when the Mesh was actually missing from the mod but with ESO I've stood at one of these boxes and waited and eventually the Mesh phased in and it was something as simple as a rock that the game was having a hard time processing. So I don't think the game is actually missing a mesh but it is having a hard time processing it for some reason.

    Anyways I hope that info explains what it is. Thanks for reporting it. Zenimax has taken notice of this discussion and the more reports we get the more it will tell Zenimax that work needs to be done on the game to get it in better shape.

    I just read through a Thread in CS. Seems a lot of folks have the same issue. And thanks for the clarification. If I were playing Morrowind I would look up the Mesh and textures ID's and fix it myself. I assume missing boxes are the same as the big yellow exclamation mark boxes. I also have the idea that most affected things seem to be items that are in relation to the havoc engine. Meaning things we can pick up. I wager a guess that we have a latency between serverside info and the physics engine. But I am no expert. Really NOT.

    @Pendrillion - Yeah thats exactly what those red missing boxes are. In Morrowind and Oblivion they showed up as exclamation marks. This would usually happen say like a modder accidentally left out one of his or her meshes from the BSA file but why it is happening in ESO on solid objects like rocks is a mystery to me but you may have hit on the answer with server latency. That would be my best guess. It has nothing to do with your PC but is something going on with the server output and rendering of the object because I've stood at these red boxes and they eventually phase in. Good work in bringing this up and discussing it. The more things are discussed like this the better. It will help those who have no clue as to what these red boxes are to have an understanding and it will help Zenimax to know that this is happening so they can make a fix for it.

    Further update. Download eventually finished overnight. Now ESO won't start and reports fatal error code 11. Box comes up with submit report that doesn't seem to do anything. The data it contains cannot be copied using normal highlighting to copy and paste. No menu can be activated on left mouse click. Nack to technical support !!!!!

    Ive been experiencing random CTD. At one point ESO was using 1700MB on task manager using process eso.exe. This is about double what I would expect the game to use from previous. Not sure if it is a memory leak but it appears so to me. Cant really give any other information at this point. Suffice to say I have random crashes to desktop and did not before the patch

    @Scotilla1 - The only thing I can think of to do would be to have the Launcher verify the whole game. Being that you had a really hard time downloading it, it wouldn't surprise me at all if you got bad data. You can verify the whole game using the Launcher. If it detects any problem it will download good files for you. I don't know what fatal error 11 is but it must be serious and have something to do with starting the game. Thank you for reporting this. Zenimax has taken notice of this discussion in general so at least I have their attention and hopefully as more and more issues are reported it will get them to act.

    @Stratti - The game is now bigger and requires more resources than before. They overhauled the graphics and I bet that is the reason it is using up more on task manager to process the ESO.EXE - The first thing I noticed was the graphics and when I move it crashed within 10 seconds. The new graphics put the game beyond my settings. In order to play now I have to play in Windowed mode. There is no getting around it. It crashes to main menu in any other resolution.

    I am actually hanging my hat on the game for a while and am going to go all out in saving up for a new computer as my computer is very old and needs replacing. It isn't meant to handle games like this.

    Thank you for your input and feedback. This discussion is all about that and it has gotten Zenimax's attention. The more reports that come in on any kind of issue the better the chances something will be done.
