Update 3 Issues

crimsonblade02191973
Update 3 presents a lot of so called improvements to the game. The one I noticed immediately is the graphics. Everything is much more defined. However this presents a problem for my computer. While I love the new graphics my computer doesn't. As soon as I moved about 10 ft. the game crashed to the main menu giving me an unknown error. I went back in and bam the same thing. So to get my computer to be able to handle these new graphics I had to set my settings to Windowed mode. I have found that in Windowed mode I can run the game in the default settings and not get any crashes. The trade off is I have a Window around my screen but I can deal with that. I'd rather have the graphics and a window than not to be able to play at all. Anyways I am opening this Discussion with this issue. If you have any issues to report on Update 3 you may do so here. Anything goes and the more people that report the better the chances Zenimax will do something about it all.

I have not made it to Cyrodiil yet but thanks for reporting this. I am afraid the developers are going to eventually make the game totally unplayable on my junk top as I'll call it LOL! I am saving up for a custom built computer that won't have limits like this but it is going to be a while. In the mean time I have to deal with what I've got which isn't much. One thing the developers need to do though is advertise the product with updated minimum specs. Especially if they put it beyond the capabilities of a Dual Core machine like mine. My computer may not be able to take another massive update so I have cancelled my subscription and I am going to buy prepaid time gift cards from our local Gamestop store if the game remains playable on my computer. If not I won't be playing until I get my new system.

I don't know what gear you have but maybe you only need an update to your graphics card. A dual core should handle it fine with a good graphics card.
  • crimsonblade02191973
It is a Dell Optiplex 320. Windows 7 32-bit OS. First generation Dual Core Processor. ATI Radeon 5450 Graphics Card with 1GB VRAM. 2GB System RAM. So not much power under the hood. This is a 7 year old computer. I think it is time to get a new one and I plan to. Just gotta keep saving up my money. I can get a custom built machine from a local computer store for right at 1K that will be able to handle any game I throw at it.

That's not a bad card. The system ram is kind of low. Definitely save up for a new 64bit system, but in the meantime ram is cheap, try upping the system ram to at least 4 GB's.
  • crimsonblade02191973
This Dell Optiplex 320 system RAM can't be updated if there is a PCI-Express Video Card in there which is what I have. The computer comes on alright but with 4GB of RAM and a PCI-Express video card in there I get a blotchy colored screen with super big icons of all colors. Sounds weird doesn't it but this is the case with my model of Computer. This issue has been well documented and I called Dell and they confirmed it.

Yeah, The system you are running on is just way too old to play this game on high. You could find a pretty affordable desktop in the $600-$700 range that will perform much better than that. RAM is pretty cheap now a days so finding a 64 bit OS with 4 gigs in it. You can pick up another 4 gigs really cheap and get an i5/i7 Intel and you should have a better time.

Just some extra info here - look here for economy gaming builds. I built mine based on this site and it works like a top.

Thanks. I am going to explore all options before I plop my money down. Once I've saved about $700 I am going to begin doing my research. The store where I live said they could build me one anywhere in the range of $700 to $1000. It all depends on what I want inside the computer but I am not going to buy a name brand. Dells are terrible and Alienware is highly expensive so I am going for a custom built machine.
  • crimsonblade02191973
@jelliedsoup - Thanks for that report. I will be on the lookout for these issues.

Listen up folks. BOWS, SWAPPING WEAPONS and OPENING DOORS could all have problems with Update 3. Be on the lookout for these and report them. Reporting them may get the developers to make fixes.
  • Ashur_Breakblade
swapping sets is screwed, weapon appearances change/ disappear. Hell for 10 minutes until I relogged my second weapon set gave me the appearance of werewolf form...
-don't get me wrong, it was actually fun swapping straight into form

Yes I have reported it, but the more that report it the better as the game is not really playable now for me.

This is all good discussion folks. Keep it up. The squeaky wheel gets the oil and if enough reports come in it may get Zenimax to get off their tails and fix these problems.

Animations are as screwed up as I've ever seen em (even beta). Get's worse in heavy traffic areas like big keep battles in Cyrodiil. Odd thing is how long they last or are delayed. It's excessive and in some cases only logging out would clear mine up.

I even had a new weapon I took out of the bank (PvE area) equipped it and deconstructed the old one yet the animation from the old one was stuck on character for a good 5-10 minutes. Only logging in/out cleared it up.

This is what my first half hour in Cyrodiil looked like after the update.

@Evergnar - It looks like you have a loaf of bread from Skyrim on your arm. But seriously thanks for your report and picture. You know what I think is going on with Zenimax and this game is that they are still in the process of making it yet it is available for play. Sure Skyrim was full of bugs when it came out but for the most part it was finished. They made 3 DLCs for Skyrim which was cool but those also had bugs. With ESO they are still making the game. It is now somewhere between 30 and 40GB in size and they don't have any plans to stop. What they need to do is take a breather and work on cleaning up the mess they have already made. Fancy graphics don't make a game function properly and they could lead to more problems.

Just ran into my first can't open door to shop bug. So that one is confirmed. I was going to buy some armor from an armory and when I got to the front door of the shop the door was all blurred out and I couldn't open it and go in the shop. The door finally phased in but still couldn't open. The option for opening the door just wasn't there.
  • crimsonblade02191973
Now I am getting crashes at random. Doesn't matter where I am at or what I am doing. This last crash happened when I was talking to a merchant. I am starting to wonder if Update 3 has made the game unplayable and not because I am on an old computer. If this kind of stuff keeps happening I may hang my hat for a while on the game and besides that if I am ever going to be able to buy a better computer I am going to have to spend a whole lot less money on extras which would include prepaid Gametime gift cards in order to have playtime in this game. The game will still be there when I have my new system and I can pick up where I left off.
  • qiyamatawilrwb17_ESO
was in a dungeon the other day and my weapons bugged out visually. my bow became Dual Wield and my blades shooting arrows. not a big deal.
  • crimsonblade02191973
@qiyamatawilrwb17_ESO - Now that is something. I can't even get in the game at all right now. I was going to try lower settings to see if that would help but I can't because the game is crashing while trying to start up.
  • crimsonblade02191973
@Ashur_Breakblad - Yeah, I have an Iron Greatsword and on my back it is straight but when I pull it out to attack it is S shaped. Curved. So something is definitely affecting a weapon's shape.

I would love to a comment on Update 3 but I am still trying to successfully download and install it. Currently I have 92% on my second attempt and the final 3300mb is running at 100kb/sec. In 12 hours it may try again. Have spent over an hour talking to tech support and as yet we have not been able to improve things. Started this exercise 30 hours ago !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • crimsonblade02191973
@Scotilla1 - Take out all your frustrations right here. That is part of the purpose of this discussion. If I were taking a look at this from the standpoint of knowing nothing about Zenimax my first guess would be that the problem would be your internet connection but this is probably not the case because I have run into the same issue with just this game. Not as extreme as this but still when I downloaded Update 3 it stalled out on me several times. The way I got it to restart was to pause the download when it would stall out, exit the launcher completely then go back in and it would scan what it had already downloaded and then resume the download where it left off. I had to do this 3 or 4 times and it only happens with this game. My other downloaded games never had issues like this so I know it is not an internet connection problem. It has something to do with the transfer of information from Zenimax's servers to your computer. It is a problem on their end of the spectrum and I would be willing to bet it is because they keep making the game bigger and bigger and their servers are getting maxed out with all the traffic. As I mentioned in an earlier comment Zenimax is still creating this game. What they really need to do now is stop and clean up the mess they have made so the game as it is will be enjoyable for everyone instead of creating more content that just makes things worse.

@Kypho - I am to a point that I have made a decision not to invest anymore money into the game. I've cancelled my subscription and I am not going to buy those Gametime cards as each one is $30. Instead I am going to hang on to that $30 to go towards getting a new computer. Every time I spend a little money on something I don't need that is a setback in getting something I really need or want. Not that a computer is a necessity but my system is too old to be able to handle these new games therefore I want a new one.

You see the same thing in the above picture I saw which looks like a loaf of bread from the Skyrim game on Evergnar's character. I admit I find this a little bit funny but at the same time it is a serious issue. I have similar ones like my Iron Greatsword is heavily S shaped curved and there are other reports of messed up meshes like this. If that is what they are called in ESO. In the other Elder Scrolls games the model is called a mesh. My Iron Greatsword looks like someone stood it up straight and placed something heavy on it and it got squashed a little bit.

Thank you for your input. The more we rant and rave about the game the better the chances Zenimax will do something about it. My final thoughts on it all are that they need to stop making the game bigger and fix everything that is wrong with it as it is now.

Crashes in pvp at time and my werewolf skill will not work right from time to time, stops mid shift and stuck in slow mo till I log out and back in.

Needless to say can't use it properly at times since its a gamble if it will work or not. Like to use it to charge into holes in walls and get up to oils

I was extremely unhappy with the color pallets in the guild hearldry, no jet black no blood red, in fact no real reds at all they are all kind of pinkish, even the browns are pinkish. The colors are nowhere as nice as the achievement colors, not even comparable.

@Kypho - Thank you. This all good discussion. Everyone sharing how they feel about the game. I feel really bad for Scotilla1. He or she can't even get into the game right now as Update 3 isn't installing right for them. Even I had problems with the download stalling out. When I first bought this game back in May I purchased it and downloaded it from this site. Well it took about 3 days or so for it to download because at that point it was already about 25GB in size. Well I was in Target one day and I saw a copy of the game on the shelf for sale and I was like man if I had only known it was available on disc I would have purchased that instead. Needless to say I went ahead and bought the disc version and thank goodness I did. I ran into a situation where I had to wipe my hard drive and having the disc version on hand saved me lots of time. I got the game and all the updates at that point installed in about 12 hours. ESO is now approaching 40GB in size which in my opinion is way too big but if Zenimax insists on making the game this large they at least need to clean up the mess before moving on to another update. If they don't fix the issues people are going to stop playing and if enough people stop the game will go out of business. Zenimax doesn't seem to be taking that possibility seriously but anyways enough ranting for now. I am glad I started this discussion. It is bringing us players together to send Zenimax a message and that is to get it together or sooner or later players are going to say enough is enough and move on.
