[Serious Bug] Memory Leak After 1.3.3 Update Ticket: 140808-000254

There is a very bad memory leak since the last update this month. My game in high traffic areas stays around 2GB. Since the last update it is hitting 3GB and more causing me to log out and back on constantly to clear out the memory use. I've tested my systems memory, etc. with no issues before I put in a ticket. I submitted a ticket a few months ago when I found the memory leak that required a hot fix. Well that bug is now back again and causing crashes for a lot of us.

Last night all I did was log in, check mail, deconstruct four items and my game went from 2GB being used to almost 3GB. I have attached a screen shot of what it was at the time of the screen shot. It then climbed to 3GB and I logged off.

Two screen shots below showing normal use and what it was before it jumped to 3GB and I logged off last night.

This seems to be an issue for many people. Read about it on Reddit.

I do hope the hotfix it fast.

    I sympathies with those affected.

    CS replied to my ticket:

We are sorry that you are experiencing issue, we have reconfirmed this as a rising issue again and will try to have it fixed by the next patch. We again are sorry for any inconveniences that you face and we hope to have it fixed soon.

Since the patch I have some issues as well with my game crashing, especially in heavily populated areas like Rawl'kha. Funny thing is the game crashes also when I'm doing virtually next to nothing like standing around, accessing containers or blasting rats.

This did not happen to me before the patch so I assume there's a "patchy" reason for it.

A friend of mine got this issue too..
Funny enough - i don't have any memory leak issues. In fact my memory usage rarely hits 1GB.

But i hope they get it fixed for you..
Fast is fine, but accurate is final.

Yeah I have never seen it this bad. I am wondering if this new color correction is the issue. I may try turning that off in the usersettings file and see if there is a difference. They said in the notes it may cause performance issues but they hope it doesn't. :/

Have also memory leak problem when it hit over to 3,6GB then game grash! :-(

Well I changed the color correction to "0" and the memory leak wasn't as bad. Not sure what to make of that. The game was much more responsive. I could go in and out of doors in a second, no long loading screens between zones. My loading screens since the update have been so long. Now I can go between zones in a matter of seconds with color correction turned off. Will test more in a bit doing some quests to see if this is really making a difference or not.

I got suspicious of colour correction when I read the patch notes (two days after the patch) I never thought to check memory leakage though but setting to zero seemed to help.

After a 3 hour run time, here's my mem usage from game running to exit (launcher still running):
    (From perfmon: \Memory\ ):
% Committed Bytes In Use, Available MBytes, Cache Bytes
    19.6773017744, 10707, 892313600
    19.1505869136, 10799, 947113984
     7.8258459574, 13683, 419614720
     7.8002878611, 13687, 419241984

So... 3.1GB freed, 500MB cache gone (Assuming perfmon is actually getting the values I think it should be getting). So, ESO should have been around 2.6G RSS holding onto ~500MB cache; Not taking into account what the system is caching on its own. This is, pretty close to what it was previously which surprises me. I figured usage would be more now with the caching changes.

The largest usage was about 3.3G.

This was not including being in Cyrodiil. Will hopefully be able to profile that a bit tonight as that's the only places I've had the client crash, but my generic monitoring settings need tweaked to pull in more useful info instead of the basics.

I don't know if you guys are playing on PC, but for us Mac guys the term "memory leak" has been haunting us since beta. It still exists but thankfully over the numerous patches it has gotten better (at least for me).

One day I am hoping for a 64 bit version of ESO.

I am on a PC Windows 7 Ultimate, x64. The launcher and game had horrible memory leaks with the July patch and the did a hot fix to correct it. The launcher was never fixed and continues to have memory leaks so I always close that once I am in game.

My memory usage stays around 1.8-2GB depending on where I am. This leak is adding a gig of memory in a very short amount of time.

Well here is my memory use with color correction set to 0. No leaks at all so far and I have been pushing it hard for a while. Time will tell I guess. :)

I still have never seen this personally. Even having the launcher running over a weekend once (didn't realize I set it to go to sys tray), it's usage was only 130MB. And yeah, I did check because I've been hearing about the launcher having a mem leak. I just have never seen it.

It's ram usage will consistently raise 16K/20K for a while then drop back down. Raise for a while, then drop. I think it may raise ~30MB before free'ing the RAM.

It's usage has never been crazy for what it's doing that I can see.

    I'm on Win 7 Pro, x86_64.

I have the same problem. Game starts with "eating" about 1,8gb ram, and in maximum 20 min gets to 2,9-3gb ram then inevitable crash. So i get a crash every 20-30 min. Can't play like this , seriously. A fix is needed ASAP!

Well with color correction, the new line of code in the usersettings file they added in the last update, turned off my game is running quite well. I don't even have the long loading screens. Two hours now without a memory leak. Not sure this is the fix or if it even has anything to do with it but before I turned it off I had to log out every 20 minutes or less. Been playing two hours now without issues.

A preemptive Alt-F4 before the crash will get you back in faster - for me once an hour seems to work.

Well it isn't a fix for everyone just like the last memory leak. They had us disable sound but that didn't stop the leak for me. I am starting to see a little climb in memory but it seems to handle it a little better with color correction off. I hope that maybe this bit of info will help them to start tracking a possible cause and get a fix out sooner. They said they "hope" to have one out by the next patch but when is the next patch? We could be waiting weeks.

This issue warrants a hot fix ASAP. You cannot nor should you have to log out every 10 minutes to play the game. I would hope this issue would be on the top of the list above everything else.

Going to try the color correction off suggestion...

    My Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live\UserSettings.txt
    SET COLOR_CORRECTION "1" "0"

Yeah it isn't a perfect solution. All I know is the memory leaks are not as frequent with it turned off. I've had two in several hours of playing with it off. I turned it back on and the memory is going nuts constantly now.

Well it is something they need to put at the top of the list. Hopefully everyone having issues is submitting tickets. This needs a hot fix ASAP.
