Not enough quick slots

AmitM9S6
AmitM9S6
I'm a new TESO player, and I'm currently level 20...

I'm a Dragonknight 2H Sword Nord, and I'm having a problem with settings my skills..

I have lots of great skills, but I dont know which one to use, as I only got place for 5!

Burning Breath - Great dmg
Brawler - Good DOT / Shield (specialy vs many AOE)
Unstable Flame 2 - The dmg is insaine, kills target super duper fast
Executioner - do I even need to put a description ?
Spiked Armor - raise my armor by 500. or in other words, a god.

while there are other great skills I see I will learn pretty soon, such as :
Lava Whip
Inferno
Critical Charge
Momentum
Dragon Blood (really great heal!)

and as I barely got place for all of those, what can I do ?
Is there an option to get more quick-slots for skills, or set skills under keyboard keys such as 'F' and such ?

Thanks!

you can get quick slot addon, but thats for potions/baits and such

you can only and will always only have two sets of cast bars with two ultimates.

that way you will have to pick and choose what you need and not just have everything u might need

AmitM9S6 - this is a designed intentional feature set of TESO. Having to make decisions about which of your abilities you want to slot on these two hotbars gives you pause to plan what is most effective for the way you want to play..ie soloing (a LOT) or occasional grouping/dungeons etc. A new implementation for additional passive/perks is upcoming with the Champion system though exact details are not sussed out yet - those will provide a breadth of additional perks for your character as you progress in TESO.

Btw - You will have access to a second/flippable hotbar upon earning your 15th level in game. Welcome and hope you have fun!

He says he's level 20. I think he might not know about the second bar he got at level 15. Op. You can equip a second weapon in your inventory screen and get a second set of slots

Noted Auric...maybe this is gist for adding more player tool tips or hints in the tutorial eh? (*)

You can only have 5 abilities+ultimate per bar.
There are various purposes for this structure.
    Two of them are:
1)It's balancing the game's classes, system and game play(in both pvp and pve).
2)It's challenges the casual player to select the right ability in any given situation, so only the 5 best abilities within balance are being used.
    Good luck :)

They definitely have a very explicit tutorial pop-up at level 15 to let you know about weapon-swapping. I don't know how they could make it more obvious.

Think the qbar as a MtG deck, or your army list on Warhammer 40K, when you go to a tournament.

You need to tweak it based on your play style, but be prepared to face with it every single opponent and any combination of cards or units.

Keep it simple, and believe me even 5 slots are enough.

Experiment, choose, use two bars (2H weapon on each bar). A good combo for me when I leveled with 2H was Momentum => Stampede (imobilize > Bonus damage on distance)=> Wrecking blow => Lava Whipe (used in this order as an engage combo), then I kept hitting till low HP, then => executioner.

My other bar I had destro staff with AOE spells, dragon blood, molten armaments...

Thanks, I do know I can equip a secondary weapon, but I actually really like my 2H Sword, and do not want others (Bow seems quite weak, staff not fun, and daggers... just weak...)

So equip another 2h sword. However, I can tell you that the bow and dual-wield builds are not weak if you know how to use them. Your build choice is up to you though.

You will be swapping out skills on your bars as you play the game. You will have skills you use for Area of Effect, skills you use for single mobs and then skills you want to improve. I will swap out skills as I go through a dungeon sometimes.

One thing I have done is to use the same weapon set on the main and back up, then I use AoE skills one, and DPS skills on the other. Or, I use AoE with one weapon and DPS with the other.

Another thing to consider, as you level up, some enemies, particularly bosses, are immune to some skills, so you will be swapping those out too.

While I would like more skill slots, the reality is, you would probably run out of Mana or Stamina if you had 6 or 7 slots just using each skill in turn. Having 5 skills actually lets you rotate through your bar sequence and have something left over.

Can you switch weapon with a hotkey?

I read you can use the [`] key which is left of the [1] key on the keyboard.

But it never works for me, either in or out of combat. I have to press [k] and then click the weapon swap icon with the mouse, very tedious.

You can switch your weapon by pressing the correctly configured hot key.
    My hot key is [`]
I suggest checking your options-controlls, they are might not be configured correctly.
Also, you need to be at least level 15 and have second weapon in 2nd bar equipped.

The weapon swap button is whatever you've bound it to. It should default to ` or MB5 (if you have a 5-button or more) mouse.

You can equip the same weapon on main and back up. The only problem is, knowing which weapon you have. I do this with One Handed Shield and use the differences in the Shield to figure out which weapon/skills I have.

As for a secondary weapon, you need a distance weapon in this game. Most bosses are not something you can stand toe to toe with. You need to be able to inflict damage from a distance. You also want to be able to soften them up from a distance first, then close in for the kill. Bows and Staves are quite powerful in this game, once you have them skilled up. Get one, use it on lower level mobs (not more than 4 levels below you though, or you get no skill points) and then your main weapon on the mobs closer to your level.

Besides, it's fun using Wall of Elements/Impluse on a large group of mobs. Or, stunning your enemy with a bow shot, then charging in for the coup de gras. Fun times.

What about using Restoration stuff ?
Fight like a spartan, then when you you're in trouble, heal fast and get back to the sword ? it's basicly imortal! (as I already have around 1k armor at lvl 21 for 20sec using Dragon spikes, which doesnt cost that much stamina, so I can basicly activate it 24/7 when needed)

If you'd like to be a healer, a resto staff is a good secondary weapon to have.

However, if you think you're going to be "basically immortal," you might be disappointed when you get in an actual fight with enemies at your level.

OK, you asked so I'll provide my contrarian PoV.

The limited skill slots are for limited people who play on limited machines. Read that as consoles. As TESO is being ported/built in concert for both PC/console we on PCs got limited due to what they can handle.

I personally have 101 plus mechanical keys and a mouse with more buttons than I can conveniently use, let me use them. Some say "limiting the skill choice is good" or use the flip flop option. In truth neither is well thought out IMO. The flip while as of last patch has reduced some of the lag still not the same as having skill bars, same skill in the location for muscle memory. The battles here with the different bosses/mechanics require different skill sets. I rarely hit two bosses back to back that I use the same setup.

The folks who like "limited choices" doesn't hold true as you can switch skills as long as not in combat. This causes undo need for wasted time in 4 mans, trials, etc. to swap out skills for the different bosses. If you truly want limited choices, then IMO, once you entered the run, your skill bar should be locked - run what you brung.

My wish list.... Let me load up what I want, where I want. Just because it is up and ready doesn't mean I can spam everything. There is but so much smurf juice or stamina available. Saves time and helps me play better/faster as skill X is always in the same spot. I really wish they had built different clients rather than trying to force a PC player into a console limitation.

    As always, my opinion, YMMV.

And your version of skill bars results in WoW: 100s of buttons, but you only press 2 or 3. Homogenized builds and rotations. The works.
