Troll Camps: Can anything be done about it?

WraithAzraiel
WraithAzraiel
✭✭✭✭✭
Lately I've been noticing a lot of poorly placed forward camps, far too many to be just poor judgement or new players. Which leads me to believe that somehow some way other players of other alliances have their friends or have alts that guest into the specific campaign to purchase and place camps in order for the radius to block the placement of camps with actual tactical value.

What can be done to discourage this?

Should Zenimax place the name of whomever placed the "troll" camp on said camp to allow for players affected to report?

Should the camp radius be reduced?

Or should they flat out do away with being able to use camps as teleports by only allow the dead within the radius to spawn there?

make camps run out like the siege weapons do now..if they're not being used in 45 secs..despawn them.(or spawn them back to the owners inventory. if inventory is full destroy them)

I've been noticing this in the Thornblade (NA) campaign. Tonight, for example, there were 3 AD camps that were perfectly placed to block Fort Ash (held by DC).

The simplest solution would be to make camps accountable by displaying the name of the character that placed the camp.

They went away from this sort of accountability eg; you can't inspect players or see them on damage meters, I sort of agree with this.

Heres a solution, though I agree with the sentiment mostly, start actually rezzing people again and stop relying solely on forward camps.

Also stop zerging and dying expecting fake numbers to carry you.

Seriously the whole camps thing has gotten stupid.

Why not put a radius on keeps and ressources in wich a camp can be placed, so that e.g. only one camp per faction can be placed near a keep and it's ressources?
They did it with the sieges weapons (limit of 20 per keep and faction) so it should be possible to program this for camps.

I don't think peoples names should be stamped on it due to possible harrashment done by immature players of all ages.

Some other solution to it would be better, eg. a player can only place a camp once per 45minutes or something like that, if unused it will just self destruct in a 10 minute duration.

I guarantee you 0 troll camps would have been placed yesterday if the players who placed them would have known their name and guild would have been associated with it.

Normal troll camps are done by EP and DC alts, so putting their name on them would make little to no difference. But the ones placed yesterday were done so by our own faction, for no other purpose but to grief, and prevent certain people from getting emperor.

As per another thread, I suggest limiting who can rez at a camp to those within that radius shown on the zone map, and then shrinking that radius by 15-20%.

The former takes away a good bit of the strategic value of trolling camps, and the latter makes them less effective.

Everyone hates troll camps, and they aren't limited to one faction. Many times as DC we've had people placing them up in stupid places.

I don't agree with naming and shaming, purely because some people might well be doing it with the best intentions and even though being able to whisper/tell them how to do it properly will help, most people will probably hurl abuse at them instead.

I know ZOS position on this already given their approach to PvP:
It's a valid tactic and nothing will be done about it

Well in that case: Thanks for nothing. It's a valid tactic of war, too to sneak behind enemy lines, wait till their guard is down and then slaughter everyone. In Cyrodiil that would be sneaking behind the gates, wait till they're closed again, place a camp and then have a good old fashioned killing spree.
But this is punishable, for whatever stupid reasons. I hate such deceitfulness.

Question: how do you name&shame 1 guild when the person could be in 5? All 5 could be in the same alliance, and they could all be based in the same campaign. Game won't know what guild to tag it to.

As for just displaying the player's name.. I feel pretty confident in saying that, like, 90% of the people doing it to intentionally troll would just say "LOL yea I did it, sfw, its allowed, and i dont like you or your tactics so * u."

Well there is another one that people use to grind kills.. Get on an account that belongs to your enemy faction.. Find a nice comfy location.. place down said camp. Then hop on your main and let the good times roll.. Kill.. after kill..

Since your faction won't see the enemy camp they won't come to your spot and soak up all that AP you are grinding.

What is it, 20 re-spawns per camp? Easy AP..

I will often die get frustrated and pick a random camp and see what action lies at that location.. You will get that easy random 20 players in a short amount of time. Place a new camp.. repeat.

Does that mean we'd get to see the guild tag of the people who have been placing FCs inside gates after exploiting into them? Oh wait, all 3 factions already know who's doing that crap. /support DiE

Why not just reduce the radius. Its insanely huge, it doesn't really need to be.

Not everyone knows where is a good spot for a forward camp and the uninitiated often find it tough to even find a spot where its flat enough, not too close to a keep etc so they can end up putting them down in some odd places.

I had a situ yesterday where someone had put one down next to our AD temple as it had been under attack, 10 mins later and we had to ride way north past black boot just to put one down anywhere near the keep/resources because of the one next to the AD temple.

I'd be in favour of a smaller radius but also only allowing people who died within that same radius to spawn there as the OP suggested. Stop the cheesy teleports and discourage suiciding.

Also, the cost of them seems pretty high compared to other stuff and what is it with no AP for people using it? Our guild will often put up several forward camps on an assault and never get to use any of them as randoms spawn through them until they're gone and then none of the randoms wants to give up 7k AP worth of tent to replace it. That's ok "all for the cause" and all that but then wheres my AP per spawn? It cost me 7k AP nearly dam it. At least acknowledge my act in aiding my alliance similarly to wall repairs.

*Make the radius smaller so they can be placed closer together. About 1/2 - 2/3rds what it is now.
*Make only those dying in the radius be able to spawn at the camp
*Make camps be able to be set to "my group only" or "my guild only"
*Make the person who places the camp get some nominal AP per spawn
*Make the camps not quite as fussy regarding slightly sloped land
*Reduce the cost of a camp to under 5k

    That's what i'd do anyway

It needs to show at least the person's name though, regardless if the camp is exploited behind a closed scroll gate, or intentionally in between keeps to troll your own faction.

Somehow someway they should institute a consequence for getting caught playing for the other team. Like a -50% AP gain for a week or a temporary loss of level.

Something like that, if you're confirmed as being a spy by using an alt of your enemy's faction to drop a troll camp or report movements then it should be dealt with in a reasonable fashion.

Or better yet, you're locked out of PvP for a week. It's a win win for ZOS.

On the one hand they'll be shutting up the people crying for something to be done about spies and cheaters and on the other, if said said cheat really wanted to play and PvP that bad, maybe they'll buy a 2nd account?

The simplest solution would be to make camps accountable by displaying the name of the character that placed the camp.

I like this idea of the name display. Also it would be nice to have all siege items labelled similarly. And allow you to set permission on the item to:

    a) yourself only
    b) your group only
    c) anyone in your alliance

Obviously forward camps would need a slightly different permission requirement due to the overlapping.
