Maintenance for the week of April 6:
• ESO Store and Account System for maintenance – April 8, 9:00AM EDT (13:00 UTC) - 6:00PM EDT (22:00 UTC)
We are currently investigating connection issues some players are having on the European megaservers. We will update as new information becomes available.

eso file depot

roastedduck
C:\Program Files (x86)\Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online\depot

there are 2 files there called depot, and eso.

can someone please upload those 2 files from the latest eso patch, i accidentally deleted them and now i have to redownload the whole game, the repair button doesnt work, and i think zenimax should really fix this.

free cookies to whomever willing to upload those 2 latest files NA server.

I don't see exactly why Zenimax should "fix" anything. You deleted the files (for Stendarr knows what reason), and now the launcher is making you re-download the game.

Did you confirm with a CS rep that getting the files from someone else would actually work?

Not a smart idea from a security standpoint.

it will, i switch from EU/NA by doing this, but silly me for some reason im using recycle bin as my backup folder ^^

Yeah. I'd really check what those files are before sending them. I'm not convinced that it's safe to send and/or that it will actually fix the OP's issue. I'd really like to hear that a ZO rep recommended this fix.

hmm I don't see anything overly revealing in them, but now you are making me nervous.

Can a ZOS rep confirm that these files are safe to send to someone else?

it contains info that the launcher reads to determine the game version, the file which contains sensitive info if any is available, eso has about 144 files that are encrypted and those 2 are not included.

Well, it's not even so much a security thing. I just have a feeling that these files are for your system, and that the OP would just further break their install by using someone else's copies.

OP: Did you actually contact CS about this? And is this the course of action they recommended?

well couldn't he then just delete the files

I'll send the files and you can try them at your own risk.

i can run the eso.exe without launching the launcher and be fine, i just dont want to redownload the whole game when a new patch comes. so if any of you are willing to send me those 2 files will same me tons of bandwith. (it needs to be from NA eso folder btw)

Am I actually reading this correctly...

You "accidentally" deleted the files the game uses to check the integrity of your game data files by going in and manually deleting them - causing the system to do exactly what it is supposed to do (redownload the data files to ensure integrity).

You then "accidentally" emptied your trash/recycle bin so that you couldn't restore said files (and took no proper backup before "accidentally" deleting them in the first place).

You then want to know why Zenimax hasn't fixed it?

There are two answers to that, take the one you prefer:
    1) Not a bug, it's a feature.
    2) Pebkac error, will not fix.

While I'm sure there likely isn't a huge security risk here, and while I'm sure emailing the files likely will work (I've transferred the entire game between computers in the past due to random computer failures during the Beta, and those were not the computer specific files that needed to be altered/redownloaded/etc.) - provided you didn't "accidentally" do anything else to any other files...(consider that my disclaimer) - frankly, if I were you I'd just leave the thing to download and go...not touch random keys on the computer for awhile.

I agree that it is my fault by accidentally deleting those 2 files, but it is the job of the launcher to redownload the tampered or missing files, not redownloading the whole game when a 9.3mb and 16kb files are missing.

It is not the launcher's job to assume that you only messed with two files that you shouldn't be touching in the first place. If it detects missing files, it needs to assume that the entire installation is likely corrupted and do exactly what it's doing.

    Maybe I wasn't clear...

It actually IS the job of the launcher to redownload the entire game - in the event that it can NOT verify the integrity of the "entire game" (ie. the game data files).

You deleted the "easy step" to verifying that integrity. Namely - the version and template files. Without those it verifies files one at a time. It may not even actually be "downloading" it may just be checking one by one the file you have versus the one on the server. It just looks like downloading - and takes almost as long because it has to talk back and forth with the server making sure nothing is corrupted.

And you deleted the version file FOR the biggest folder in the game. The DATA.

To put it another way, when asked by a student why they had to do a "stupid" (their word) algorithm psuedocode assignment in a computer science class rather than just "learn to code", my answer was "describe the color green to someone who has been blind since birth".

The computer is deaf, dumb and blind...it knows how to do very simple tasks. You took it's ability to do so away, so it fell back on exactly what it's job was supposed to be. The program doesn't "think" and can not "simply", "easily" or "just" fix something a human could - it follows set algorithms. Don't mess with the algorithms.
