So is everyone going to ignore the guy's comment about Coldharbour Ash Black? Seriously folks, I hopped on PTS and grabbed the Thalmor black in about 20 minutes by finishing the heart of anumarril (I probably butchered that spelling) and saving Southpoint from Madness. There are PLENTY of nice shades of black available.

    Edit:
Below is the Thalmor Black which is easily obtained.

That'll do me, looks pretty good to my eyes.

Have a question on the vampire black though, I've run two vamps in the past but I got bored eventually and had them cured.

Does the achievement stick with you or do you lose it on getting cured ?

Confirmed on live server that coldharbour ash black is about a #000000 black... Meaning it's completely and entirely black.

This is perhaps the most sickening revelation I have had since I started playing ESO.

Making the most desired color require you to grind a playstyle you hate?

    Really?

I just wanted to comment on your awesome SG-1 quotes, it's my favorite show :D

Just to be sure, you get Coldharbour Ash Black by finishing the main quest, right? I looked it up and wherever I look it shows the color but not the achievement for some reason...

I think the other black options work just great, those really black blacks tend to look bad IMO on games, they end up looking like a lack of real color/detail and just a pit instead of black clothing, so the black they made easy to get works great. Some colors are going to be harder to get than others, they can't put ugly colors on the harder to get achieves, that would be worthless- plus, they already wasted many of the ugly colors on fishing thank god.

Yes PVP should have nice dyes as well. There are plenty of other PVE black dyes.

    Should be switched IMHO.

People who don't quite like a specific shade can always adjust their display settings. We don't all see the exact same colour anyway, and our monitors don't either!

I have the Thalmor black and I have to say..it's black y'all. Was easy to get as it was a quest at about mid-twenties maybe? I can't remember where I put my keys so I can't remember but it wasn't that high.

So yah for multiple black colors.

I like what I've seen of the dye system so far. I also think it makes sense that some colors are hard to get (among them some colors that are very "desirable"). Finally something to work on that not every other VR 12 will have. This MMORPG(!) needs more grinds like this or people will quit once they reach max level!
Of course they are going to make the popular colors linked to harder achievements. They want you to play the game, work for it and feel the accomplishment.

That sort of accomplishment should come from actually accomplishing something, not mindlessly grinding out PVP points. The reward should be something that makes your character unique, more powerful. Putting a COSMETIC item at the end of that carrot stick smacks of little more than punishment of the OCD gamer mindset, and trying to force more people to try something they hate in ANY MMO.

This is NOT the same as incentivizing the grind with meaningful rewards.

If they want to make certain colors hard to get that is fine, but don't force people to play a part of the game that disgusts them in ANY MMO because of the sort of people it attracts (PVP) in order to get it.

Make the same dye available through some difficult or long grindy achievement in PVE play as well. There should be two paths to achieve any dye, if this is to remain a "play how you want" game.

No purely cosmetic item, particularly a desirable one, should be made available exclusively through PVP grinding.

Digusting. You keep using that word...I do no think it means what you think it means. Seriously, the level of hystrionics in your posts says a lot more about you than the evil people who all, apparenlty, play PVP. And on that note if PVP disgusts you, this might not be the game for you. Sorry. PVP constitutes a huge part of the end-game content, which is not certified to be 100% Care-Bear friendly and never was.

So no, "play as you want" does not entitle you to everything everyone can get everywhere. When anyone can have everything for nothing, the word "reward" kinda loses its meaning.Summon your courage and endure PVP, or do one of the 8 other things you can do to earn black dye for your big-boy pants. Or as that famous man in black once said,

    "Get used to dissapointment."

Sorry - I just don't read enough into playing a game to think I have done anything meaningful at all with my time. It is fluff entertainment that takes me away from the real world. And I do know people who live and die by their in-game "achievements". I know that some people value the notion of "accomplishing" something in a game. It is just not something I understand. Then again, not everybody would put value on volunteering at the food bank, so we are even. *smile*

My real point was why be upset because somebody gets a different version of "black" than you? If your idea of fun in a game is tied up in having a specific shade of "black" then you are probably not playing the right game. Never getting the dyes is not going to spoil my game. There are umpteen shades of black and grey. If you play the achievement thing there should be more than one of those to satisfy you.

oh you volunteered at the food bank, you must feel so superior.

You would have done the foodbank a better turn by donating money or bringing in food, btw. The food bank in my city has an endless supply of volunteers. It's the actual food that they often lack.

We have all done good turns for people. For example, after my boyfriend saved a young woman from being gang *** by four men, we paid for her to get a plane ride home and drove her there when she needed it. He's quite the hero, rescued another man from the side of a highway (he thought he was a wounded animal all crumpled up) while other people just passed by. He drove him about an hour or so to his house and though the man refused medical treatment (he had been beaten badly by his father in law) my boyfriend did convince him to call the cops and waited for them to arrive.

But you volunteered at a food bank, so I guess you're special too.

All of this is entirely irrelevant outside of the game. It's non-essential info. That doesn't change an achievement being an achievement within the scope of the game.

BTW if you do good deeds to put yourself in a position of moral superiority, you are not doing those deeds for the right reasons, and when you stumble upon someone who needs help, and you have nothing to gain from it, you will no doubt turn your back on them.
Dear Sister, I do not spread rumors, I create them.

I'm not sure where you read that, but I found this Creating Eso post:
    elderscrollsonline.com/en-gb/news/post/2014/07/22/creating-eso-identity-and-update-3

That says "We knew black would be a popular color, and we chose not to make it hard to get. The artists designated one of our nine black dyes as the “best” and distributed the color, which was called Noxophilic Black, to the achievement for becoming a vampire. Another of the shades was given to a tough Trials achievement. "

So it sounds like there will be at least 9 different ways to get a shade of black dye. :)

What's funny about this, the vampire black is not the "best" the coldharbor ash black looks so much better.
Is it better to out-monster the monster or to be quietly devoured?

Still, that stuff about Noxophilic black being the best is bull. They knew Legate was the best black all along.

Whoever thought this was the 'best black' needs to check in with an optician! It's more of a dark, dusky grey than black.

It's not too bad though, when I pair it up with the nice purple I have for the accents. My big, bad Basil the Illegitimate looks pretty good in it. :)

First I thought, wow this game has a lot of metal / rock / death metal / power metal / trash metal, etc, fans that all have a black leather jacket or two at home and possibly a black mustang or a nice bike like myself or so.

But apparently a lot of the black colored equipped players are young emo fans :( At least the vamps looks like they got herpes in the face thou lol ^^

Really disappointing for a true metal loving man such as myself. But black looks good...

I did think about going the punk route for color, that would stand out a bit and be nice but punk just is not my thing as much as metal.
