Best build for a templar VR1?

I just hit VR1 and spec'd sword and board with a few points tossed into resto staff. I can do decently reflecting spells, some CC, but even with spell resist maxed out, I get nuked.

What's the best build for a templar right now?

fail derail attempt is fail. He asked about templars tyvm. Every templar that I come across who is unkillable or are hard as _______ to kill uses nothing but that..so must be good. yes?

I'll let you in on a super secret strategy I'm really sure nobody else came up with yet:

If you meet a Blazing Shield spammer, kite him. The splosion has a limited range and defensively damage shields are actually pretty poor bang for the substantial buck, err, magicka.

@op: Depends on what you're looking for. Ganking, small scale, sieging/defending. etc.

Geez, just looking for a strategy in terms of cloth vs. heavy armor and skills. Defensive posture has been decent, and jabs is always great, as well as the CC, but even with spell resist maxed, I can get nuked.

Guess I'm just trying to learn how to even 1 v 1 someone and what a temp's best chances are.

get a dress and a heal stick, currently my blazing shield cost only 226, and my magicka recovery is 181... I'm v12 but i still recommend the same build, things don't change much from v1 - v12, only stats from armor

my temp is 5*warlock 5*seducer, resto resto, blazing shield -honor the dead mutagen -immovable -inner light [clouding swarm], dark flare -honor the dead -inner light -elusive mist -vampires banes [soul assault]

assasin combo from stealth is, dark flare> dark flare> vampires bane> soul assault, ESPECIALLY on sword and board DK, if they don't notice you, they die 100% time, the reason this works is because of how long it takes dark flare to land, by the time the first dark flare has landed, you have already shot off your second dark flare, vampires bane is quick activation and soul assault is essentially instantly, they have about 1.5 seconds to react, the reaction would be a dodge roll because they cannot heal because dark flare has cut their healing down to 20%, then there's interupt but they're sword and board so need to get into range but they can't because they are slows by vampires bane and soul assault, most people panic heal

for 1v1 it's just blazing shield allday, without pots or food, i get 22 blazing shields spammed one after the other, in a fight no-one can deal enough damage, that's 1200+ dps a second to counter the damage mit, no-one can deal this in a 1v1 without get all that damage reflected back in their face, it's 18k dmg mit and 10k damage reflected if in range and not CC, again this is not factoring in the fact that you will be able to use more than 22 blazing shields and not factoring in the fact that blazing shield often bugs out 1k + damage, someone on here got a 3.8k crit, I've got 2k crits on four people before

For PvP, all the above should work nice. But I am assuming you want to level, which leveling PvP is slow compared to questing. Or you can grind Craglorn hours on hours of boredom. Sword and Board is fun, and I've been running that the last few VR levels, currently at VR9. My secondary is healing stick. I wear all light armor, and recently respected to all health so I can start tanking, it's hard getting a group to complete the VR instanced dungeons and usually harder finding someone to tank. But, I recommend getting sword and board to 50, as well as any other weapon to 50 before you get to VR12. I've got, destro, Resto, and sword and board to 50, I am going to start working on two handed next.

Before you turn in your quest, make sure you switch your bars, or load them up with the abilities you want to level, the more abilities of one type, the more it will level.

If you are having trouble with the Mobs, which you shouldn't, you can always use sweeping jabs, as it heals you. Helps to activate immobile from heavy armor skills, so you don't get thrown into the air by someones uppercut. I have absolutely no trouble at all with the mobs if I use that tactic. Mix and match other stuff, the sword and board shield charge is a nice way to get up close and personal, Use Vampire bane on the healer or archer, use shield charge, then activate immovable from heavy armor, the sweeping jabs to finish the mob in 8 sec or less most of the time unless you got another archer back peddling. All kinds of fun ways to mix and match.

There isn't that much you can do about getting nuked by NBs, a decent one will make everyone go splash at the moment. Against nukes in the more traditional sense, i.e. dmg spells by Sorcs, DKs and Temps, Impenetrable trait on your armour helps tremendously.

As for skill builds, my first impression of the 1.3 changes is that full tank ( heavy ) and weapon damage ( medium armour ) based builds got somewhat better, but still require a good bit of knowledge about the class and game mechanics and a lot of effort to pull off. The easiest and safest way still seems to be bathrobe-and-stick.

To a Templar, it provides synergy effects that are hard to ignore. Dark Flare and Vampires Bane are two good long range nukes, Magicka boosts improve the already strong burst healing as well as the nukes and Resto staff provides the resource management other Templar builds are desperately lacking.

Sword and shield as the other weapon is nice to close a gap with invasion if you need to cuddle with an opponent or need a poor man's escape ( target an enemy in the direction you want to go ).

I have to agree with the advice you are getting here. Blazing Shield is an amazing skill for us to use and should be on pretty much every Templar PvP build. That being said there are a lot of people just exploding in PvP at the moment so it might not be anything you are doing wrong. I wear 5L armor and have passives so that my spell resist is well into the soft cap and I am still being crit for huge numbers ... this usually happens when I do not have Blazing Shield up.

I like resto / 2H setups for a couple of reasons... For the stamina based gap closer and the stamina based finishing move. If after a few fights I find that I am running low on a particular resource I do swap out the gap closer between our Toppling Charge and the 2H Critical Rush.

My S/B is currently at 48 and I will be testing how I like Invasion compared to the 2H gap closer, but I really enjoy using the 2H finisher so I am biased.

And as a slight disclaimer... I don't always go for the FotM build, I go for what works for me and my playstyle and recommend that you try different skills. What works for the number one ranked player may not work for me.
