for the love of..... some people find a way to complain no matter what. I see a huge amount of dye options and with the ability to put colors in secondary and third sections the sky is the limit on what people can come up with.

yes, some colors come out borked with diff armor types, but with the view pane you can see what you are getting before you dye. I dont know of one game where dyes dont come out diff than what you expect or dye diff sections differently to everyones irritation.

what i did for my medium leather ones that had perma dye on them was to dye complementary colors in my other pieces. not my perfect choice but beats having a temper tantrum over what has been a remarkable update that we long have wished for

    are you done? good.

Obviously I used different complimentary colors but thanks for the advice.

You just admitted to the problem. I am having to compliment my now fuchsia-pink armor. How is that an effective dye system? I'm just compensating or underlining an ugly color I do not want. So the new dye system allows me to make my armor .2% less ugly...seems legit. Definitely not worth complaining over what with the purpose of the dye system being customization and what not. As opposed to being forced to try (and fail honestly) to fix the abortion my armor has become.

LOL what a bunch of emo whiners. Dye implementation is well-done imo - and fun.

Some people see black in the world around them from one flaw, while for others the same flaw hardly alters their sky blue.

I was lol'ing hard about everyone's pink Armour on the forum.

    Then I logged in...

Not so funny anymore is it? My beautiful night silence dunmer (duck face) Armour is blue and pink, I look like a frickin power ranger on acid!

I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but here goes. ZOS are making standard Armour look so naf that you are forced to use dye stations to make it look half decent. And for those saying 'Urgh, black how original' because that's the color I'm now forced to go. Zos forced my hand to do it.

    Enjoy your barbie styled Armour.

They never get leather right. (they as in any game with a dye system) It's always the light armor and heavy armor that looks good dyed certain ways and the leather armor left looking terrible.

Most of you have covered it.

Short form: many of us invested heavily in enhancements to get the look and color we wanted on characters we don't intend to level. Worst, for me, was my level 11 Dunmer provisioner in Daedric blue, now rendered gray.

I don't want to go into my VR 7 Breton Templar in a completely gold Imperial outfit I crafted who has now become Edward, Prince of Wales, the Black Prince because his armor was a dull coal black. It was not a royal reward in his case. It was black because it was unpolished. Mine is simply hideous.

But I digress. Everyone knows that dyes are huge part of this genre. And any developer would plan for this. Yet this was not planned. Had it been you would not have needed to alter the palette - or, in this case, steal from the palette. I don't think it's hyperbole to call this theft.

This is when you know developers are running a broken play: when they need to take things from players to create new features. This wasn't in the original GDD. The proof is in the feedback in this topic.

The shame of it all - and it really is a pity - is that the excitement when the host came back up and folks had downloaded their patches was palpable. It drained away slowly at first as folks found the dye stations, helping everyone else find them too, only to discover they weren't getting their colors back or colors they wanted.

And just as it dawned on people that another forced achievement grind had been thrust upon them the news flashed in three languages: Guilds Have Been Disabled. Regression testing. It appears you'll have to Google it.

Farewell my dears. You were each so lovely in your own way and I prefer to remember you all as you were.

Ive often wondered why dyes turn out like this. Rift, Tera, GW2 all their dyes just tint the armor. So if you have 2 different types/sets of armor you can almost never get them to be the same color, since they didn't start as the same color. So when you dye them, even using the same color they don't end the same color.

It is annoying, but i have to imagine that it must be hard to pull off an actual replacement since no game I have played actually does it that way.

I cannot actually understand what you're talking about. My dyes look fantastic on my cloth and leather items. Different shades of a color tend to look different, but if you don't like one, I guess you need to get some other shades.

This, the dyes just tints the armor letting whatever is under show through.. so if I want a certain color I'll have to find armor with a similar base :(

My dyes all look fantastic yes. But the issue hits when you try to make different sets the same color. Say you had a brown pair of leather pants and a white top. You want to dye them Green.

Using the same green on them both will not get you the same color green pants and green shirt. The pants will be a darker green since it started as a brown color. Now i could go unlock more colors but chances are i will never be able to make them the same color, i can make them sort of the same, but never the same.

If you use a set that is all the same, or pieces that all start as the same color you may never have this problem.

I figured out the problem after playing with my alts.

It's barbaric. The dyes look awful on barbaric. And since my barbaric is now fuchsia... however, it seems like I can dye that armor brown. I don't intend to use barbaric when I remake my armor but I really don't understand why it looks so awful on that style.

Also I've been gone all day and guilds are still down wtf

This is upsetting for me too, the one colour that I really want is a brilliant white.

Yes, to the white. I had a low level sorceress in an Orc jerkin I found that was teal and white and I wore it with the pants I got from the Queen's quest (kilt of something or other). The pants were a nice white…until dyes changed them to newbie green. Bah! I loved those pants.

On the other hand, I do like the dyes I have access to. I don't have a black or a white but there are some good, not too garish, colours. I posted one sorceress on the picture thread and I like her look.

the off whites kind of work when I tested them on cloth. They are definitely not brilliant white, and I'm not sure why only trials players get a pure white as a reward. The pvp white isn't nearly as white, the vampire white is off white, the trait research white is blue white. The raw materials birch white (which is oddly not given retroactively) is closer, but it still a very light grey.

Its the only color they seem to have that is not given equally and it annoys me to no end.

My level 1 newbie gear is now a light tan, instead of the newbie green, but my level 14 newbie gear is the green, I'm not sure why they flipped that, especially with dunmer which had no newbie green colors.

I am perplexed by the color shifts in some of the gear. They didn't mention that in the patch and there was absolutely no reason for it, nothing looks better, and a ton of high level armor looks fuchsia or lobster colored.

    i think the colours/hues are really more than adequate in their number;
i also happen to think they look just fine.

i -do- still find it boggling that of all the implementations out there, the one they went with is an achievement-tied one. Just why..

    1) let us be honest, regardless of the whines for respec costs or other costs, money is extremely easy to come by. More money sinks are needed, and this was an excellent chance for you to have provided just that

    2) you are supposed to be addressing a touch older a crowd. Achievements leading folks through the nose in order to have the game all lively are (or should be) below the standards of this title

    3) something tells me that you do not need an achievement metric to monitor activities, or lack thereof

    4) in a game 'made' as this is, why lock fluff to level (high level in fact) related achievements?

    5) in a game where crafting was meant to be 'it'...
...even though ---nothing--- is BoP... reason for that escapes us all...
why not add the dyes in a way to further complement your crafting, especially when, them being but fluff, the power-players would have nothing to complain about?

Actually they did. right under the pics of new color saturation. Some of the colors they picked don't seem to be right when compared to the reasons given...

    Armor Colors and Tints Adjusted
To prepare for our dye system, we've re-evaluated the color palette we use for armor and have made some adjustments to how colors display on gear throughout the game. This gives us more flexibility to add new armor sets and crafting materials, provides some more saturated colors, and will make upgrades consistently look more significant. The upgrade may alter the original colors on armor you already own, but you'll be able to choose your own color schemes with the dye system should you dislike the changes.

That just doesn't translate into "We made some of the armor uglier so now you'll be really happy you have dyes" to me. Though yes there it is, I missed it. Everything that I can see that they did to the base colors is just awful.

I am not as mad about it as I was yesterday now that I know it is worse on barbaric really and the dyes are okayish on other armor, but I am still unhappy.

I'm also scared this guild problem is going to pan out like the Scourge campaign promises. Made all the more worse by the fact that they put zero effort into compensating Scourge Campaign members and only let anyone know they had decided to stop giving a *** by unpinning the thread.

Well, this was probably a last-hour change based on all that whining about "too vivid colors", "people are going to look like the power rangers" bullship.

Congratulations whiners, now everyone is wearing ugly, washed clothing.

No offense, but since you're whining too, maybe you should be more specific in your sarcasm. Something along the lines of...

'Congratulations those of you who whined about something different than I'm whining about..."

    ...would perhaps be more appropriate.

As far I understand the dye system, the actual colors are no new textures but modifications of the already existing ones.

So if you play around at the dye station (give the game a command), then the game alters the appearance of the original color (red, blue, green) - like we can if we play around on our PC settings. A picture will then look different, but its still the same picture and this is probably how it works with our armors as well.

I don't think its actually possible to make a brand new texture for each color & armor piece. The sheer amount of possibilities is too big, we would probably run around with a game folder of hundreds of GB then - filling our RAM in seconds.

So far I'm happy with it. I'm rather lazy and I found that if I click Random a few times it comes up with some nice sets of colors that I can then tweak a little and be done.

I'm a slow leveler and lazy adventurer too so don't have many colors unlocked, but I've found a few different sets of colors that I liked the end result for.

So far I like the dyes but it IS annoying that all the common and uncommon colors are a bit "muddy." The only clear and vibrant colors are ridiculously hard to get rares. The rares also seem to be the only shiny metal and/or satin-looking textures. I'd love to know how the Hades you got the emperor red! I've seen it and it looks amazing. WANT! But since I PvP very little I am extremely unlikely to EVER be Empress. :(
