Anyone know how long a guild leader has to be gone before a GM will step in and allow someone else to take over leadership?

This will be a frequent issue soon. Hopefully an official announcement will come out soon.

Still not fixed, my GM has been gone for over 100 days and I have contacted support at least twice about it personally and my other officers have as well.

our guild. a 500 person trade guild, all had to transfer to a new guild. Not everyone ended up transferring because some people thought the gm was harassing them when he tried to contact them. (even mailr can't really send 500 letters without breaking midway through)

GM was gone for 2 months, but that was a hell of a lot of people so it should have been something that could have been fixed. My advice is to move everyone over to a new guild and reform.

There really needs to be a well documented procedure for ZOS to deal with this issue.

It's only going to get worse ...

This has always been a thorn in all MMOs. There's a double edged sword to it. Guild leader disappears for an extended time... Guild wants a new leader (reasonable request), then for whatever reason Guild Leader comes back to the game, then throws a fit when they've lost control of their guild.

I could argue both sides of the debate. But at the end of the day, I would have to take the side of... If guild leader is gone, then leave guild and reform a better/new guild with more reliable members.

Completely off-topic, but surely the acronym is GL?

I wouldn't be such a pedant, but in a gaming community where GM is already used significantly as shorthand for a Games Master, using the acronym for anything else, especially where the initial letters aren't even the same, is really confusing.

There is a well documented procedure. Guildmaster has to have been gone for 30 days or more. Contact customer service and provide as much information as possible. They then conduct their own investigation, which takes a few hours only. At the end of that, they can transfer guild master powers from the absent guild master to someone else.

which they didn't do in the case that I referenced even though it had been 2 months and it was a 500 person trade guild.

Simple Fix, Guilds need to have a co-leader in place.

Then, if a Guild Leader and Co-Leader is AWOL for a month*, then either a previously designated person gets promoted, or the Guild gets to elect a new leader or they disband.

*I can see ignoring a game for a month myself, although someone who wants to be a guild leader for reasons other than just to have a 500 slot bank should be around more often than once a month.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

They did it for a guild I was in so it does happen.

Yep have to agree with OP, I lead a guild and not been on much the last month due to work and RL stuff, but a GM should appoint trusted personnel to oversee things in his/her absence, and build a core around themselves to deal with areas of responsibility.
2 months is a long time however.

Look, I feel for you guys with the AWOL guild leaders, but the best course of action is to form a new guild. I know it sucks and it is a lot of time, effort, work, etc. but that is his/her guild; a GM stepping in and giving one of the officers leadership shouldn't be the way to solve this problem.

When I create a guild, the guild name has a special meaning for me personally and I wouldn't want someone else to "own" that when I return to a game.

What would be ideal in my mind is for the GM to use their magical GM abilities, and create a guild with the guild name and leader of your choosing, and allowing people to click yes or no to moving over to the new guild when they log on.

I dunno how easy or hard that may be for them, but I really don't care- I did say ideal.

Aye I agree with that, when I formed my guild, I evolved it round a group of close knit friends on TS3 and started recruiting, met some really nice people, some bad apples slipped through the net but generally a great bunch of people, and like a family, and the name has personal meaning to me also, definitely agree with ye there matey.

    Guild lead based on activity.

Guild leader forms... the first few people he invites are considered "next in line" provided they remain active and have accounts.

Everyone is in some kind of order based on length of membership and current subscription.

Are you creating this guild for your self or for your guild members? If it's for you, then this makes sense, if it's for the guild members, then the guild needs to be able to go on if your not around.

A recent MMO I played had a 30-day inactivity limit and then the guild leadership was automatically transferred to someone the next rank down. Was a guild saver on more than a few occasions.
