Heavy Armor Change, viable for PvP?

Heavy Armor
Constitution: This passive now restores magicka and stamina when you take damage.

Just noticed this in the patch notes....a passive regen while taking damage? Maybe heavy armor may become more viable? Even having a few pieces mixed in?

Oh you noticed that too huh :). I didn't notice this in any of the PTS notes, so it must be a 1.3.3 thing. What they didn't include is the reduction to breakfree cost in there, which is present on heavy armor traits too. Wondering if that is also there, or if this was one of those patch notes errors that people are expecting.

Even a tiny amount would be better than 0. The armor and spell resist cap increase also make heavy armor a little more viable.

5 Pieces now is probably pretty good for 1 handed/shield setups

I'm at work atm and can't hop in to check the passives out. What are the values like?

even though im a mage, thats the one line in that whole awesome patch, that really stood out, and left me wondering and hoping they make heavy armor good for tanks :)

Its .15% of Max Health when damaged is converted to Magicka/Stamina

It says 17 is the value right now at 2200ish HP with 5 Pieces of armor.

with 2808 its 21 with 5 pieces of armor.

So whenever I take damage, I get 21 Magicka/Stamina back

Can't comment on the tanking/group PvE aspect of things, but it seems like Heavy Armor will at least be an option for PvP and solo PvE now.

It has a 4 second cooldown. The value slightly increases the value of Heavy armor but not near enough to make it viable with the 4 second cooldown.

A 2 sec cooldown is pretty good. Is it still 2 seconds with 7 pieces equipped?
Force weapon swap to have priority over EVERYTHING. Close enough.
Make stamina builds even with magicka builds.
    Disable abilities while holding block.
Give us a REASON to do dungeons more than once.
Remove PVP AoE CAP. It is ruining Cyrodiil.
Fix/Remove Forward Camps. They are ruining Cyrodiil.
Impenetrability needs to REDUCE CRIT DAMAGE. Not negate entire builds.

Yes i am seeing other reports now that it seems to be true. So now Heavy armor can get you some minor regen, better healing, some armor and spell resistance, and break CC less...may be viable for some PvP builds. Will be interesting to try out.

At least it's something but I don't think it's enough to compete with light armor.

I've been running a heavy armor/stam build thinking they would balance it but at the rate they are going it will be another year.

    7 pieces 3000 health = 34.5. 7 pieces 3500 health = 40. Every 2 secs.....
7 pieces of light gives you reduction of 80 magicka every cast. Using imoveable AF will be that close to heavy lol. A good change this will help a ton in PVE in PvP it will still be underperforming...

The thing is, when you have to use immoveable to get the armor benefit, you are using your resources that you could use on another skill, so it seems that the reduction of magicka with every cast is used up by having to cast that skill to get the armor benefit.

After testing it over the last couple days -- Nope, HA is still the subpar armor type.

You hit harder and have greater sustainability, and TBH, aren't any weaker to damage.

    LA for life,

They really need to fix this issue be it toning down light or giving the other too much needed TLC.

I equipped 7 pieces of heavy armor & the tool tip for Constitution indicated that I'd get 25 magicka/health back from a hit every 2 seconds.

I get 21 every 2 seconds, its not much but it helps.
And yes, they really need to tone down light armor or give medium and heavy and fairly impressive buff.
Completely ignoring any and all spell resistance of your foes is just too good for a 2 point passive, on top of reduction of magicka cost and improved magicka regen and crit bonus. Its just too much without any real drawbacks.

I do think Light Armor needs a nerf. The numbers are just too high.
Templars are 'just slower... by design'
Yes, Gina actually said that (at least regarding Rushed Ceremony) right here:

In perspective: with no rings, flat 60 magicka regen.

7 light with no additional regen sets: ~77 magicka regen = 2310 magicka returned in 1 min.

7 heavy with no addition regen sets (3000 Hp) ~ 60 magicka regen with ~ 28 magicka every 2 secconds = 2640 magicka returned in 1 min as well as 840 stamina. Assuming you get hit atleast once every 2 secconds.

In conclusion, heavy armour now provides nearly equal sustain (light armour decreases skill cost). This means that heavy is now more viable to keep yourself alive and casting, but in the neich of the other passives it provides. Light armour is still more offensivley or healing focused while heavy fills a more tank roll. This is probably the best thing they could do to heavy, give it all around magicka and stamina sustain that you fill by tanking. Very nice sneeky change ZOS :)

I agree. It was a solid buff to heavy armor to make it viable for tanks, as it addresses a lot of the resource management issues.

I don't think it needs anymore buffs. Keep in mind you receive extra healing too.

With the extra healing, resource regen, break free cost reduct, and blocking cost reduct, heavy armor is awesome for a tank. If they gave it anymore buffs, like cost reduct for magicka or spell penetration, it would be every rolling in heavy armor.

At least now you have to choose. You want to be a tank? Or a dps? You can still tank in LA and still dps in HA but there's a clear distinction between the two

Here is the thing though, it should not be viable to tank in Light Armor, it just doesn't make any sense, but that is how I look upon things, maybe I am a bit traditional in those ways

I like the improvement. Tho it still isn't as good as light armor, its not complete garbage like it use to be. Couldn't hurt to make it .20 or .25 instead of .15 tho
