Weapon Swap and Skill Delay

New player here. I went back through some old threads about weapon swap and skill delay. It looks like it is way better now than it used to be, but I have no point of reference to that since I am new. It's really bad still even now, in my opinion. The swap time feels really unresponsive and sluggish. Skills sometimes do damage before an animation plays.

I am of the opinion that if you are making a game with action combat in it like the myriad action games that have come before your game and have done it right, then the combat in your game has to feel tight and responsive. A button press should equal immediate feedback. Anything short of that detracts from the experience greatly. The skills are slow enough that I half expect to see a "skill queue bar" like in KOTOR 1 or games like that.

Actual combat should be a draw for this game instead of a hindrance. I hope the issue is resolved soon.

    I don't know what they can do about skills response but at quakecon the devs said they would store sloted weapons and abilities on the client side rather than the server side. So the swap will be instant but chances are there will still be a delay on the other players side ;)

    That's interesting. I hope they can fix it. It's hard going from games that have really snappy key press to animation to this game which doesn't. This game has the setting and lore that I love, but not the responsiveness. Other games that I could care less about the lore have really responsive combat. I sure hope that this game can shore up these issues because it would mean I wouldn't feel it necessary to play those games anymore. When a hefty percentage of what you are doing in an MMO is combat, as a player you want it to be a good experience. Thanks for the info.

    I haven't had such a dramatic issue with input delay. Have you checked your connection? That may be causing some lag for you.

    I have quiet some delays too and as far as I know I have a decent connection.

    I'm not at my computer this week but if I remember well, I have 30m/s download, 2m/s upload and 16-20ms of ping

    I haven't had such a dramatic issue with input delay. Have you checked your connection? That may be causing some lag for you.

    I do not have a connection issue. That is why I cited other games in my OP about how the combat in those games is snappy. It's endemic to this game. The weapon swapping is less than ideal in terms of responsiveness. When I press the button, the swap is not instantaneous. Responsiveness is something that should be a cornerstone for action combat. Otherwise why have weapon swapping functionality? I have no issue with games that have a skill queue. This game is not that bad, but it's close.

    1.3 is supposed to be the ultimate resolution for weapon swap. They've made "improvements" in the past that really didn't resolve the issue so this update better be the end all for this reported issue. Soon! :smile:
