Questions about AP earning rate

I recreated my beta character for early access, but didn't visit Cyrodiil very often until June. Even though it is a DK, I didn't play it enough to become some master of PvP, got it up to Veteran in the Alliance War, and after getting it to VR6 in PvE, I decided to learn another class. So I rolled a Templar. Took that character to VR12 and headed to Cyrodiil with healer as the primary role. Got it up to Sergeant.

After a while, I decided to try the DK again. I am having to relearn some stuff but my insights from playing another class have helped. But here is the weird thing. I earn AP so much faster with my Templar.

My overall MO is the same. Use meatbag catapults frequently on large groups of enemy players, especially through open breaches (at invaders coming in outer walls and inner walls, through breaches in inner walls at defenders, etc). I use the resto staff for both to help heal. I tend to skirmish on the perimeter for up-close action, waiting for good opportunities to rush a group to appear. And so on.

Yet in one or two really good hours with my templar I can get 20K of AP (or lots more if it's "right place right time"), but with my DK it recently took me about 8-10 hours to get that much. The only difference I can see is that I seem to be accruing damage faster than healing with the DK (the Templar earns healing credit several times faster) and the obvious VR difference.

Does anyone know if either of those factors really make a big difference to earning AP? Or should I look for some other variable? Was it just coincidence/better luck for the Templar?

If you are healing with the Templar you are getting credit for kills the players you heal killed.

    Thanks for the reply. :)

What you say is definitely true and a good way to balance things out for the healer builds, yet they both use a similar strategy: resto staff and a projectile knockdown for skirmishing and a melee weapon with a charging attack for getting into a group to throw an AOE (preferably an ultimate). I figured they would both get credit for the kills by healed allies, even if the Templar heals for more health points per second. Maybe I'm missing something about how that mechanic works.

Or, maybe you are onto something else. Perhaps I'm casting heals less with the DK and just don't notice the difference; but even so, a 3x-5x reduction in AP earning rate seems strange. If it is a fluke (some really bad days all in a row) it should become obvious over time as things average out.
