The only issue with the Morang Tong is the fact that they are typically only associated with Morrowwind, and are said to mainly operate in said area.

They had legal writs in the time of the Morrowind game, but they have been had far more influence than that. They started the second era.

Well damn.. looks like a lot of people want to join the Morag Tong... I hope @ZOS_RichLambert , @ZOS_PaulSage & @ZOS_NickKonkle take this into consideration.... We want a generic assassin skill line and story-wise, both Morag Tong and Dark Brotherhood available to join..

If the DB quest line means I end up fighting the Morag Tong I just will not join them simple as that. As a dunmer nightblade who is a Tong member in her background story it just will not happen.

I really do not like the Dark Brotherhood because it always looks very comical and it's membership is full of thugs basically. The Morag Tong are far more honourable and more disciplined.

Actually Sithis is intrinsically linked to the Morag Tong, despite or in addition to their ties with Mephala.

The Dark Brotherhood is nothing like the Morag Tong though, even if at one point they did follow both aspects that is not the case anymore.

There is a bitter shadow war now between both guilds and to have the Dark Brotherhood based in Morrowind would be breaking that lore. The Dark Brotherhoos has been driven out of Morrowind by the Tong and if any are found there they are executed with extreme prejudice.

I would still rather have ZOS give me a choice as to which guild to join, either one or the other and not both.

I really hope the Tong is available, and I really hope the aren't just cast as obligatory enemies of the DB.

I also hope the DB storyline is Oblivion quality, the Skyrim DB story was really eh for me. Same with thieves guild, I preferred the 'Master Thief' feeling of Oblivion to the 'No love among thieves' feeling of Skyrim.

The war between them had been going on far longer than that. Quoted from the wiki.
Despite all this conjecture, more is known about the exact date of the formation of the Dark Brotherhood. In 2E 358, a note addressed to "Brother" was found beneath the floorboards of an abandoned house in the Nordic village of Jallenheim which depicted a war going on between two shadowy organizations. Scholars speculate that this note is a rare piece of evidence about the war between the Morag Tong and the Brotherhood.[2] This would make this note the first recorded evidence about the existence of the Dark Brotherhood. About fifty years later, in 2E 412, the Blood Queen Arlimahera of Hegathe wrote a short piece in her journals, mentioning that her family had enlisted the services of the Dark Brotherhood since her grandfather's time. Together with the note found in Jallenheim, this puts the formation of the Dark Brotherhood around 2E 358 or 360 at the latest.

I still maintain dunmer players should be given a choice as to which faction to join.
As it stands my dunmer will not be joining the dark brotherhood not even to get the skill tree.

I never said they were anything alike or were friends, just that they both used to worship sithis and were on good terms while that was true.

The reason that is not true now is because of the shift in worhip to the tribunal by the morag tong.

Morag Tong doesn't give a flying flip about the Tribunal. Ask Naryu Virian what she thinks about Almalexia and you will get a good feel for where the Tong stands on that matter...

Oh she is very careful not to dis the tribunal, and for good reason. It seems that currently, based on her word the morag tong are out of favor, but they do ultimately shift to the tribunal, and that is why you get the sanctioned assassinations.

The morag tong would not be able to operate within morrowind as they do during that time if they continued their daedric worship.

It seems they are in a down time where they can't worship sithis and mephala, but still have some stigma attached.

Pretty much anyone that didn't convert to worshipping the living gods will have to keep it on the dl if near the established cities and towns.

Wish I could find the book that talks about the links between the DB and morag tong, given that it is IC lore and is prone to being flawed.

Well... they never worship the Tribunal... the may play the part very well (as any assassin would)... but they have little respect for pretender gods. Their patron was always Mephala.... if they needed to hide it, they did; as hiding is their ultimate ability.... The Tong predates the Tribunal's rise to wannabe godhood...

It would be great if there were both. I suspect it will be easier to just have the Dark Brotherhood as a pan-Tamrielic association than the Morag Tong.

Also, what about the Argonian assassins? How do they fit into this? Aren't they called the Shadowscales? http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Shadowscale

Shadowscales are part of the Dark Brotherhood, aren't they?

Shadowscales come off as, as much a national/racial organization as part of the brotherhood.

As for the motif vs singular issue I actually think those of you have it backwards as a motif says droppable book, while a singular set more likely says guild style. Though its just a stretch to use that as maybe they just didn't want to crowd the Tong picture with low tier versions.

As for the thread I'd say if they do it well the story line for the assassin's guild will give you a choice along the way on if you side with the brotherhood or tong.

Also lets face it Tong is honorable while the Brotherhood is just a group of crazed sadistic murderers.

Tong kills nobles trying to start internal wars over fueds, relatives who are ruining the family name by being a skooma dealer, and people who have actually done bad things.

Brotherhood kills little old lady who gave her last sweat roll to a starving kid instead of selling it to rich merchant, kills people just because somebody dislikes them, and completely overcomplicates things with intricate murder plots.

You sure that's Morag Tong armor? It looks more like Dragonbone to me.

Either way, I like both, though I favor the Brotherhood a little more.

The Brotherhood kills who the people want gone, while the Tong are largely governed by the houses (most notably Hlaalu) and typically only deal with the squabbling of nobles.

Thouughh.. Know what would be really cool? If you could join either and be hired to hunt down members of the opposite guild, even in PvE zones. It'd add another layer of playing hunting along with guards and thieves.

I am far more concerned about which side Naryu ends up on. She seems rather loyal to the Tong, at least to the idea of what it once was. But listening to her voice it almost sounds as though she might be contemplating her future role in the direction things are going. I'm not sure if that is deliberate, or the outstanding work of the voice actress and her getting into character so well.

As much as I love the character, if that actress doesn't do future content as Naryu then I'd really rather not see her return. This actress nailed it so well, I don't think anyone will be able to replicate Naryu as she is now.

Why not make other single faction cults?

They already have the start of them in the game lore with the Eyes of the Queen and the Daggerfall Blades. All they would need to do is to flesh it out some more and make them a joinable faction for players with its own skill line.

Because each cult would require it's own storyline, were as the Dark Brotherhood will be the same story with the odd tweek for faction-based locale, like what the Fighters guild and Mages guild do.

Basically single faction cults like the Morag Tong would triple the work load for the same payout for ZOS.

I'm hoping both. Morag Tong is cooler than the DB. That being said (and I realize it is a personal preference) they are both cool and I think it would be really great if they both existed. In fact I think it would be great if there were a multitude of joinable factions for us to be a part of. That was one of the really great things about Morrowind, that most people who played it remember.
