Account Bound Achievements

GieniuszKrab
Hello,

I was playing ESO for a month, I want to stay longer. Once I completed all quests across Ebonheart Pact territories, I made new character. I easily oriented that anything made by another character doesn't give us progression on another one. It needs to be repaired.

Repair implies breakage, you didn't identify anything that's broken, seems to me the achievement system is working as designed .. just not to your personal liking.

It's fine the way it is, for me.

I for one agree. I see no point in attempting to pursue achievements if it means I have to complete them all on one character. I certainly am not going to replay 10 territories worth of old re-used content on a character whose story has been long-over just to get the achievements on that ONE character.

Well, there are two potential reasons for getting an achievement:

    1. You want the title. Sorry, you'll have to complete the achievement on each character individually, because you don't earn titles by proxy.
    2. You want a dye color. Good news, everyone! You'll get the dye on all your characters as long as one of them has the achievement.

The game certainly does not encourage the creation of alts but they said as much prior to launch, didn't they? An oddly limiting and fairly short-sighted approach in my opinion. It's a lot to expect us to want to play the same character for years to come, even figuring in things like spell crafting... particularly when we don't even have the ability to give our toons a makeover, change their name, etc. but rolling an alt and the next months are dedicated to just catching up to where you already were. Ouch.

How about a trade-off between experience already gained and the potential benefit of rolling a different class (for instance)? Specifically, you roll an alt and it comes pre-installed with the following, up to the same level as the main:

    xp
    map locations
    completed quests
    progression skill points (not skyshards)
    achievements (other than those below)

    ...but does not have:

    gold
any purchased inventory space from main
skill progression xp (all skills are at starting level)
    alliance ranking, if any
    skyshards
    group dungeon or trial achievements

This still leaves the challenge of training and levelling skills, gaining alliance rank in PvP, and extra skill points but negates the, frankly quite dire, prospect of having to grind just to have more than one character of equivalent level. I would still like to understand why we are discouraged from making alts but I think this way would probably be quite popular with most of us, while remaining a fun challenge in terms of 'training up'.

In other games, any character on an account can get an achievement for that account, Skyrim and New Vegas for instance. However this game has achievements that should only be character specific, such as Dolmens, Level Achievements etc. Then you also have the Alliance Specific Achievements (all the caves in a zone for instance). Then there are achievements that could be across all accounts (perhaps some Crafting could fall into this category)

Since Achievements mean more to the person who is achieving them than anyone else, it makes sense that some should be account specific. But, where do you draw the line?

I think the way this game is done, it is the best compromise, as you can take one character through the entire map. That you choose to make multiple characters is your choice. And, you already get a head start with Alts being that your previous characters can provide crafted items and gold to get them a leg up. So, giving them a leg up on Achievements is just gilding the lily.

I'm a fan of account wide stuff, sorry but what can I say? Doing something twice has never been fun, nor will it - it WILL become a grind.

Edit: this refers to MMO's as I realize having sex more than once can actually be fun :open_mouth:

Not exactly sure what your complaint is.

Every character has to make their own way and get their own achievements for personal renown. No one comes out of Coldharbour as Fighters Guild Victor before even talking to Sees-All-Colors the first time.

As to achievements and dyes, those are account-wide unlocks so any issue there is moot.

Don't you guys think that the future of MMOs will have more account wide stuff? I mean, I know the character IN GAME maybe hasnt done stuff, but the player has already done something. It is after all the player who is important and yes, doing questlines twice just inst fun. Im not saying ALL should be account wide, but I really see that is the future path of MMOs. Please feel free to disagree of course :)

Nestor, I would like to say that there is an acheivement "Tamriel Hero". This achievement needs completed all quests in every alliance. I don't get why doing Pact quests by Pact character, DF quests by DF character is bad.

A design choice you dislike does NOT mean something is broken.

It's working as intended, just not the way you want it to.

Because to get this achievement (which I have done on my main), it takes a lot of time and dedication. It means that I've cleared out all the quests in my faction's area as well as the VR areas for other factions and Cyrodiil. On one character. That's an achievement I'm proud of, and it doesn't mean as much if I can slap it on a level 3 character who hasn't done any of that.
