Finally We Are Getting the Game They Promised Us !

Right from the start Zenimax hyped this game with bold statements like "Play the way you want" and we were all stoked. In reality (and lets be honest here) that was bullcrap, we didn't get to play the way we want, not really !

Now finally (and announced at Quakecon) we are getting the kind of choices we wanted all along. The more I watch the Quakecon videos the more it sinks in just how many choices we are going to get !

•The new 'Champion System' - put your points where you think they will suit you best. Effectively giving us way more control over our stats / passives

•'Spell Crafting' - The choices here are so numerous, I doubt if even Zenimax themselves have yet discovered every permutation available to us when making our own builds.

The most mind bogling thing however is when you start to think in terms of the two combined? Planning your build to such an extent that you are putting points into your character that you know will compliment spells you intend to make ! Or making spells that emphasise your points/build !

Gone are the days of seeing a certain class of player and basically knowing beforehand what spells they were going to cast, or seeing just another Sword & Board build. Now... FINALLY... we are going to see the diversity and magic that comes with an TES title and it's all ours for the experiencing ! ! !

Bring it on Zenimax... bring it on !

    I hope so!

Sadly, there will be people who exploit and people who whine and eventually all the new stuff will be nerfed. That's just the nature of MMOs.

But, honestly, all the new stuff sounds awesome and I can't wait to see how it improves the game-play and world interaction. It'll be kinda sweet to roll up a new toon and be able to simply ignore all the 'class' skills and go with only weapon / armor / spell-crafted spells. Bound weapons, summoned creatures... it's all starting to sound like Skyrim, only MMO-ier.

Let's hope it all goes ( mostly ) as planned!

From what I saw in the QuakeCon panel about spellcrafting, no one spell will be OP because it can only be improved one way, ie, making summoned creatures permanent, have AoE aura, cost less, be ultimate, etc.

The notion of creating one super-awesome-mega-face-melting-no-cost-ground-scorching-AOE-death-from-above-I-win-button-uber-spell is inherently nixed by virtue of how spells are crafted. Thank the Eight!

I speak only for myself. Anyone else in a similar situation is coincidental:

Not going to do me much good, I've played through most of the game that I'm going to with several characters, and got burned out between leveling them up and getting all my crafting (except Enchant = 24) to 50 while doing the login/logout hokeypokey between my 'toons/bank/'toons/bank/ad-nauseam.

Right now I'm just finishing up some research for completion until my sub runs out, while I look for something else to play.

Couldn't agree more OP. It's almost getting towards Path of Exile type character building, which I love.

Of course there's always going to be the number crunching min-max crowd who finds the single best build, but with more options comes more viable builds. Very exciting.

You can simply ignore all the class skills now, why dont you? That is right because most the other skills are weaker. You say it wont bother you in the future, but it bothers you now. Why would it all of a sudden stop bothering you if they just gave you a whole bunch more bad choices?

I've enjoyed the game since beta (first MMO since EQ where I enjoy it so much I have multiple characters nearing end game), and I too am incredibly excited the changes. I bought a cautious 3month plan, and an additional 3 month rolled over. I can see myself buying a 6month easily based on these content projections.

The road ahead looks great in theory. Call me gun shy, but I just can't buy into the hype until I see it (play it). At least it appears to be some steps in the right direction for the future though.

Just hope they continue to focus, improve and clean up the existing technical bugs and game play issues which in imo are much more crucial.

It doesn't actually bother me. My current build isn't optimal and I honestly don't care. I'm enjoying playing (mostly), I'm not hardcore like I used to be a few years ago so I don't need to stress over my build/DPS.
When all the new options/spells/build stuff comes out my build will probably be further from optimal than it is now, but it will be closer to my TES build (which was bloody good fun)

My only problem is the spellcrafting system, love the idea but yet again they are doing nothing but reinforcing magicka builds over stamina builds, now i know there is probably going to be crafted spells that give stamina builds some use but my problem is that with stamina builds the primary resource is stamina, so if you have to dodge roll or prevent a healer from healing you are taking away a stamina builds dps, whereas spellcasters have the stamina to blow and do whatever they want as well as their primary stat, being magicka, that doesn't get consumed for stuff like dodge rolling but primarily for DPSing... I think if they fixed that system the stamina builds would be much more popular.

That being said yes i am very hopeful with these new systems coming out and can't wait to see them in action, especially the champion system!

    Well said @Phantax‌

I can't wait for more build freedom. Let the min/maxers grind out fotm builds on the system all they want. Thats their thing, they should go for it. And unimaginative players should follow.

I've played this far with what some would consider a horible build, and had fun doing it. This is just going to make it that much more fun for me.

how on earth do you get burned out crafting? I am 50 in all skills but enchanting (48 just now actually) and never ever felt like I was grinding. Get gear from drops, decon it, make stuff from materials, decon it, or just trade stuff to decon. (completely necessary for runes.) This isn't like EQ where you have to make one thing over and over and over until the RNG is nice to you and gives you a skillup. (I maxed crafting on 3 characters and was starting on a fourth in EQ, actually, that includes at least one character with poisoncrafting and tinkering, and one with alchemy.)

They said at the panel discussion that there are plans for a stamina type of spellcrafting. What that means exactly remains to be seen.

Regardless, no build exists in a vacuum in this game. Not my preference but is the case. Magicka users use stamina for blocking etc and stamina users still need to use class abilities and self heals, etc. I'm reasonably certain spellcrafting will be of use to us, like heals, self buffs, etc.

    We will see, I guess.

You people are simply going to have to accept that EVERY build is meant to be using magic, even stamina builds. I run a stamina bow build and I still use my class skills for buffing and defense.

Every class is a magic class, the game wasn't designed for you to run only weapon stamina abilities.

Frankly between using magic for stealth defence and having 1900 stamina and a regen of 107 even with my acid arrow spam I still end up more survivable because every bit of magic I have is used for stealth and fear and in full medium armour and the dodge reduction I can dodge a ton of times where it's often mention in mumble that I seem unkillable when everyone thought I'd be dead.

While this is true at the moment, and I too have gotten by with a sort of magicka-based weapon build, it is still something that needs to be addressed. A lot of people played past ES titles with strict warrior characters, that is, bruisers who never once touched a magic spell in their life. I actually remember one of the more popular mods was one that removed any default spells your character started with, or accidentally acquired, to help feel like a true no-magic brawler.

The problem (as we all know by now :) ) is stamina is much more crucial in ESO because it is a defensive resource that we didn't need to use in previous titles where sprinting was really the only thing that drained it other than melee/power attacks, depending on the title. They need to break the blue/red/green mold a little bit and merely add a secondary stamina bar, similar to sprinting with a mount, that is used for rolls, blocks, and interrupts. It would feel like a weight off the shoulders of stamina built players. The only other thing I can see helping is severely changing the costs of abilities and/or movements that use stamina, but that would also be benefiting magic classes as well so it may not lead to the balance we hope for.

Your point is still true however, trying to get by without any magicka abilities at the moment is a pretty fruitless endeavor.

Also to the OP, I agree. I was very pleased watching the presentation (other than the awkwardness of some of the presenters haha) though I am trying to keep my optimism in check until these things are delivered. It is still refreshing to see the direction of the game looking good!
On second thought, let's not go to the forums. 'Tis a silly place.

Valid point, but I only use two magic skills per skill bar (not including ultimate) and given we've only got five skills to a bar it's not like there's a great deal of room for me to squeeze more magic in without doing away with weapon skills altogether

Too much of the code is executed locally and subject to "creative intervention", which is straight-up cheating with hacks if you don't follow.

It will happen. It's only a matter of time. The deciding factor will be Zenimax's ability to respond to it quickly and efficiently. Based on their track record with exploits and cheaters thus far, it doesn't seem that promising to me. I hope they can make it work in a way that is fair for everyone, but I see rampant abuse on the horizon.
