(PvP Mechanic) Casting Abilities While Blocking

It's been almost 4 months since release and this hasn't been addressed or even communicated whether it's working as intended. Is PvP really supposed to be determined by who runs out of stamina faster? A desirable mechanic that would pose a possible solution is already in the game even!

For example: When a player sprints his hotbar is disabled.

Is the PvP architecture that muddy or unencapsulated that you can't reuse that method or a few blocks of it? I like this game mostly because it's an Elder Scrolls Game but the concept of PvP is so fantastic! Unfortunately, all that excitement gets ruined by a mechanic that is so obviously incorrect and faulty.

It makes absolutely no logical sense as to why a player should be able to block while casting an ability. Player casts an ability that makes his weapon and/or shield disappear yet they are still blocking. You see how silly that sounds? Is this a combat responsiveness issue? How did this even pass the grade as acceptable?

@ZOS_GinaBruno‌ , @ZOS_NickKonkle‌ , and/or @ZOS_BrianWheeler‌
Maybe you can advise whether this is intended or if there is a fix planned. Even a tentative "Yes, we're checking it out." or "It's working as intended" would be awesome. I know that you love this game (at least it appears so) and we do too! Throw us a bone on this one.

If you need examples of abilities that can cast while blocking then I will go through and list EVERY single one in the game for you. That's how broken and silly I find this mechanic is in it's current state. Excuse my unreserved opinion if it's too intense but in theory the solution to this is so apparent it's one of those "LOOK! It's RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU!" line items.

Thanks though. QuakeCon has a lot of people fired up and excited. Maybe sneak this one in there too?

I dont think Ive seen a dev comment on this yet. But they dont talk about AoE cap induced pvp zerg balls crashing servers and making the game dumb either.
Force weapon swap to have priority over EVERYTHING. Close enough.
Make stamina builds even with magicka builds.
    Disable abilities while holding block.
Give us a REASON to do dungeons more than once.
Remove PVP AoE CAP. It is ruining Cyrodiil.
Fix/Remove Forward Camps. They are ruining Cyrodiil.
Impenetrability needs to REDUCE CRIT DAMAGE. Not negate entire builds.
Werewolf is not equal to Vamps/Bats.

If you want to learn the games mechanics that are *not exploits then you can read my thread posted ages ago or just read the first paragraph if you aren't into learning stuff.

    http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/109700/a-note-tip-eyeopener-about-dps-and-dps-addons-for-new-players#latest

Its part of the game. The clips from attacks and the blocking through spells. If this is a deal breaker for you then you know what to do. Also, don't play Dc universe or age of conan or any game with real combat system. Oh and youre really not going to like when weapon swapping is reduced to instant because that will be clipped as well.

I actually played DCUO for about 2 years with hard light and gadgets being my main powers so I'm extremely familiar with clipping... In regards to this topic what I refer to is not clipping in ESO. This is holding down block while fighting. There is no active skill or rhythm. It is strictly holding RMB and casting your abilities such as talons etc.

In DCUO, you could not block and cast abilities at the same time and if you did block you could be block broken. Please don't mix the two scenarios in order to derail a forum post. Thanks!

I think the best way to fix this is to make your hot bar do the same thing it does when you are sprinting, every ability is blacked out and cannot be used. I think this would be best for the game.

are you sure that casting abilities doesn't temp take you out of block? I used to think this too but as a DK when im being pounded on, if I use one ability such as scales or dragonsblood it usually means death (Im better off backing away slowly while holding block. Im finding that using abilities((even while blocking)) makes me vulnerable to stuns, knockbacks and damage.)

Insta casts do not drop block. There is a bug that affects some people though, which will cause drop to block anytime an effect such as regen, shields etc drop off of them though.

Personally, I think casting an insta spell should drop your block for 0.5 seconds

Are you stupid? Seriously, are you stupid?

Casting spells requires you to use your hands. If both of your hands are occupied holding up a staff/sword/shield/bow (blocking), there is no physical (or magical) explanation for how you could also use your hands to cast a spell.

It is OBVIOUSLY NOT working as intended, and the fact that this issue has persisted for so long without a developer response (especially when you're paying for something and you are dissatisfied), is complete ********.

Considering all abilities have animation times, the entire point of making any ability instant is so that you can use it while blocking, and so that it cannot be interrupted. Changing this design would make block pretty worthless.

Blocking is a very important part of the game's combat system...

Why would you assume it's not working as intended... you're obviously not a dev.

Calling someone who doesn't agree with you "stupid"... wow.

Actually in reality shields have always been used to block at the same time of an attack.. Armies in ancient times would train themselves to fight with shield constanly in the block position... Shields should drop on a heavy attack but stay up on a light jabbing attack.. I think the shield should actually drop on a magic attack or take damage penilty...

Funny that you put it that way. With that logic there should be spellcasting while sprinting which can't be done.

Blocking while casting just creates some boring fights and doesn't reward anything. No one ever says look at that punish or credits anyone for that clutch cc... Because everyone was holding block while casting.

Is it wrong to want some exciting combat where spells, daggers, arrows, etc are flying left and right while blocking is actually something you have to do actively for it to be an effective form of mitigation? Sure, it's effective in it's current state because people hold it down 100% of the time but how much of the combat mechanic does one need to learn to master holding down the RMB?

Well lets start by saying, Casting while blocking is no where near as big of issue as AOE caps right now...No one thinks that...Except herp a derps like yourself.

Next lets start by saying, Have you ever actually casted anything while blocking? Here i'll give you a moment to log into the game real quick, make a sorc if ya don't have one, and go hold down block and cast Crystal Fragments.

When you get back you can tell me about what your character did while casting the spell..
