There is no reason to ambush / ambush. that skill is a cap closer. if you are alrdy on the target Conceal does alot more damage and cost less to use.

Ambush /conceal/conceal is what they should be doing.

If they are really good they will land a sneak attack with Conceal.

If they go for Suprise morph over conceal they will do even more damage which most NBs do

Ambush from a sneak attack is close to a 3 second stun, Conceal or Suprise sneak atatck hits alot harder and is a 5 second stun

Nala was replying to the guy that thought that snipe was the only way to get 2k+ damage in 2-3 shots. I do agree though, ambush + conceal +conceal is better.

Agreed, stacking spell penetration is the route that I took, which seems like the only other viable solution to creating decent damage numbers.

Stacking penetration just furthers the gap between light armor and the others, since light armor is the only armor set capable of reaching 50%+.

I can buff myself to 120%-180% Critical rating in combat. There is nothing "random" about people with ful Impenetrable getting Crit on; it's just that some people erroneously think that 70% Impenetrable is going to void all crits.
I could push my crit rating even higher with a full crit build, but I'd rather build for raw damage as the crit rating I have now is already entirely sufficient.

Alright I will be the one to bite, please explain how you do this.

Nightblade self buff (100% critical rating increase) + Crit potions (39% critical rating increase) as necssary.

Light Armour with 129% weapon crit (Magelight off; weapon crit buff active; no potion active):
Full Medium Armour set with 144% weapon crit (weapon crit buff active; no potion active):
Full Medium Armour with 183% weapon crit (weapon crit buff active, weapon crit potion active):
The buff unfortunately only applies to Weapon Crit; however, all the class skills I really need to Crit with (Ambush, Veiled Strike, Impale, Incapacitating Strike) run off of Weapon Crit anyway.
These buffed values are very easy for me to reach in combat, and I do it on a regular basis.

I'm missing common crit-build bonuses such as Thief Mundus, Set bonuses, Khajiit Racial (I'm Bosmer), and higher crit rating from slotting additional Assassination skills. It gives a decent view into roughly where I can push the numbers to though.
I'm sure someone on a full crit build could demonstrate far more drool-worthy numbers.

You did say it never gave you spell crit though... maybe they fixed it since then except for rank 4 or some weird thing...strange.

I can tell you for certain though that it has given me both spell and weapon crit since rank 1.

Rank 4 being bugged is probably the most likely candidate; I never really made actual checks on my stats until it was already at the 100% marks, so I may have entirely missed it at ranks 1-3.

None of Nightblade's bugs surprise me anymore sadly. lol.

Some testing on this will get it narrowed down though; then it will just be a matter of waiting for them to fix it.

I know, the bugs don't surprise me either anymore. I love new stuff etc etc... but I wish they would just work really hard on bug fixing first.

I'm also not sure what spells the spell crit will help. Strife does not seem to crit from it. I assume since it breaks cloak and then travels to the target, maybe some of the more instant spells will gain benefit, like some of the destruction spells. The last time I tested cripple, it was still breaking cloak. (I don't have it purchased atm). I would imagine drain power should benefit, but I don't have that yet.

The HoT from strife will crit while using it, which is nice.

I just unlocked Shadowy Disguise on a female Bosmer alt.
It correctly gives 70% Spell Critical.
Looks like the issue is that it breaks at level 4.

I put in a /bug report, as well as made a thread up for it in Customer Support

No, the crit rate increase does not appear at all until the skill is morphed to Shadowy Disguise.
The alternate option, Dark Cloak, removes DoT effects off the Nightblade when casting it.
