my friend just got eso on steam, its gonna take 12 hours to dl.. is there a way i can copy my non steam version of the game so it only needs to download the "steam bits" of eso steam version?

simply placing it in the steam apps common games part didnt work as it goes to "downloading" part before games. any ideas?

    Hello @Kronosphere,

Can you provide a little more information ? Do you want to install the Steam-version of The Elder Scrolls Online on a computer that already has the non-steam version installed, or on a different computer ?

hey thanks for the fast reply. we wanted to log on a steam eso account to a non steam version of eso. but reading around it appears steam eso accounts cannot log in using non steam versions of the game at all. so we will just have to download the steam version overnight =(

to give context my friend finally got a comp that wasnt a toaster and so i bought him eso on steam. we planned a LAN and realised once we got there, hey, its gonna take 12 hours to dl before we can play together at said lan. i then got a bright idea to copy and paste my non steam eso to his comp so he could just use it temporarily. but when he logs onto the non steam client i paste to his comp it says wrong password even though it is correct.

    thanks anyway tho =)

TL;DR steam eso accounts can never login through non steam launcher/game

The steam installation process requires players to create an account, redeem the code provided by Steam (you can find it on steam on the right panel under Links -> CD Key on Steam when the game is selected), select a subscription, and register their payment method.

Once an account has been created, the game-code has been applied, and a payment method selected, it is possible to login to the game by both the non-Steam and Steam version of the client.

That said, please note that preforming a raw copy of the files is not recommended as it can corrupt some of the data in the process and generate errors. A proper installation through Steam or our account site is always preferable.
