I only experienced a bit of zone chat spamming and trolling... nothing major though. I don't engage in PvP though, and I think that's where most of it happens.

I was once severely taken to task in these forums (more than a year ago now, thankfully) for suggesting that ganking is griefing... as it turns out, ganking is more like the national pastime in Tamriel, a sacred obligation, all thoughts of sportsmanship and rules of engagement thrown to the winds because, LOL dude, don't be a n00b, this is a MMO, ROFL.

Yeah, whatever, I don't do PvP much, either lol...

    ganking isn't griefing.

Really every game has it's own unspoken rules of what is cool and what isn't.

Ganking wouldn't be griefing either way though, unless you were continuously hunting down the same person intentionally and doing it over and over.

I think that's a problem for a lot of people on the forums where they don't understand that just being put out a bit (there are almost no punishments for dying) isn't griefing.

I played in a game that was world pvp, and people there considered ganking griefing. Well some very vocal people. There I would say it was poor sportsmanship. If you have world pvp and the community has built up an expectation of some honor in combat, which is reasonable when you can be killed anywhere, it makes sense. It would just be poor sportsmanship though, not griefing unless you did it to one person over and over.

Here, where you have to make the active choice to go to the pvp zone and the setting is a war with achievable goals, supply lines, etc, ganking is business as usual, and definitely not griefing.
Dear Sister, I do not spread rumors, I create them.

...and then there are the opportunists who stand next to you, eyeing the 3 mob group consisting of 2 conjurers and a DK. You're thinking, good this should be easy with the two of us, same level, etc. You charge in all tanky, aggro all three of them, and this other player... takes advantage and just runs past, leaving you to deal with the casters and the conjured meanies & that green DK ultimate all by yourself.

Sure, it works out okay, but, seriously? If this were actually rare, that would be one thing. But some people are just antisocial, I guess.
that's what I have the most problem with. you are in a battle, and you actually need some help, then players just run by, leaving you to die. Another problem is exactly what you just posted. I'v done some dungeons, where players would try to sit in stealth, and let ME do all the fighting(did not work, I got them to join in, I actually talked to them in the chat, and told them if they wont help, then I wont do any fighting, that got them to start helping me, as I don't think they had any invisibility capabilities to let them sneak by the enemies) these are not really GRIEFERS but they are very annoying.

Just remap your Ultimate to a different key. I moved mine to T and what T was used for to B. I can still reach T when I need it and I don't set off my Ultimate by mistake anymore.
FYI - There is no such thing as 'night capping' in a world wide MMO.
FYI - There was no paid Beta. When they launched the game the Beta was over, even if you don't think it was.
    FYI - It's B2P not F2P. There is a difference.
FYI - It doesn't take any player skill to mash keys or buttons in this game. The ones that stay alive longer have the better internet connection and speed.
FYI - The game is not broken, it still works. It just has 'bugs' that need to be fixed.
    Balance is a "Bad" thing.

Example: There were hundreds of Jedi and only two Sith in Star Wars. The Jedi wanted, "Balance in the Force" and they got it. Now there are only two Jedi and two Sith.

    Balance is a "Bad" thing.

Report them for harassment. That is harassment plain and simple and should be worth a suspension at least. They are doing it for no other reason than to harass someone. At least with node stealing there is a reason.

I personally hate DKs that chain pull things away from people that are attacking it. I had a DK follow me around for a while doing this. He would wait until I attacked and then pull the mob. I was forced to switch back to my main skills as opposed to skill I was trying to level and just kill everything before he had the chance. That is really annoying.

People consistently using knock-backs on the mobs I'm fighting as mele. That made me afk a few times.

But I cant really say it's griefing or intentional, they might just be clueless or ignorant. Don't think I ever encountered anyone that beyond all doubt was trying to screw up my gaming experience or enjoyment. Not while doing PvE.

PvP would be another matter, there I've seen a lot of griefing. Not talking about jumping your enemies from sneak, that's intended. More like picking up the scroll than go swimming with the slaughterfish. Filling keeps with oil or useless siege in the back, to mess up defence. Helping enemy faction kill your own people by leaking information or even DK pulling them into keeps. That sort of stuff.

Those times when you were in a gruelling battle, one you will just about pull through, and your fighting the last of say 4 enemies and some a-s-s-hat comes out of the blue and kills the last mob, just to get a bit extra xp. [when you would prefer they just go further on]

@Snugzal Just to be a counter to your point about others not attacking mobs when they are clearly eyeing them. For me, the opposite, the not attacking mobs you are obviously going to attack, is the social and right thing to do. My motto is don't get involved unless another player needs help. [unless the other player acts like a tool, then let em die. lol]

That's fair. The situation I have in mind here is primarily in dungeons, where there's no way around the mobs but to kill them. I think by and large the convention here is ad-hoc grouping (not in the official sense necessarily); we help each other get through the mobs to the boss and the skyshard -- the only reasons for being there, frankly -- and we both profit. I see less and less of that happening. I don't think using another player's combat skills to hopscotch past mobs is, well, sporting.

Now I don't mind if the exploiter is several levels lower and can't afford to aggro anything 3 or more levels higher. I don't mind that, and I'm happy to help out. They can get their skyshard and teleport back out, that's fine.

Frankly, I'd just as soon be alone in dungeons. In a group, they tend to be pretty hohum. Not even the bosses are all that challenging any more.

Yeah it's a good community in game...often not reflected on the forums.

ZOS did a great thing when they designed a game where kill-stealing isn't a thing. And if someone beats me to a node or chest? Fair-play. It wasn't my node, it's there for all.

I did that with weapon swap. I hit "`" so many times instead of "1" that I got a gaming mouse and mapped the swap to a button, and bash to another. What a relief...

I often hit "R" by mistake, but my ultimates are all targeted, so the big green circle gives me a clue... ;-)

People seem to go out of their way to ride or run through my fishing, if i'm not fishing in the ocean.

Lots of places for them to pass by, but they have to go right through the node.

Some jackass spent like 5 mins jumping up and down in a fish node in Craiglorn yesterday.

Doesn't stop me from fishing. Not sure what the point is.

That's not griefing. If you're in a tough battle like that and someone comes and kills the last mob, chances are they saw you were having a tough time and came to help out.

Is griefing really possible in this game?

I mean, I read these posts about some guy who had the audacity to lay down Cleansing Ritual in the bank, and I think to myself, "Have these guys ever played an MMO?" That isn't griefing. It's annoying, but it isn't the same as having someone camp your corpse, steal your kills, etc.

There was this one week I came in and played, there was this one guy who came in on zone chat and started fuming political views. From then on, it became a debate, which turned into an argument, which turned into a...idk, but it was really kinda sad/annoying to see people verbally fighting with such intensity.

I only call him a troll, cuz he (or some other guy. idk. but it became a phase.) came on for like 2 days afterward doing the same dang thing. It is not a pretty sight to see.

If you come into their aggro range, they will attack you. But if someone else is just running by with a bunch of enemies in tow, they won't attack you unless you take action against them (or heal the runner).
