The Vestige and Mirrors - Just for Fun Thread

If I, the Vestige, has no soul ... can I be seen in a mirror?

This thought was triggered by my watching of the original Dark Shadows series. In one part, shortly after Barnabas Collins is introduced (as a very monstrous monster who has done unspeakble things), Dr Julia Hoffman, investigating the disappearance, reappearance, and insanity of Maggie Evans, has a lead on Barnabas and gives him the ol' mirror test - which, of course, he fails.

The reason for classical, gothic-horror type vampires not being seen in mirrors is because they "have no soul". Well, I guess then that proves animals have souls; and so must inaminate objects (or at least spirits dwelling within them, as an animist might insist) - but I think all can agree a vampire is, in general, utterly unnatural and is lacking "something".

So. Is a Vestige like a gothic-horror vampire (and not like the somewhat more traditional, pure-mindless-monster vampires ESO has kind of harked back to - though I have met at least one pleasant, intelligent one) and can't be seen in mirrors?

Speculate away!

From the lore on Vampires I have read, the reason Vampires have no reflection is not based on soul but based on silver.

Vampires do have normal reflections except from silver surfaces and 'most' mirrors used silver as the reflective surface and I find that 'theory' fixes better then every other inaminate objects having a soul.

Then if werewolves are allergic to silver, why can we see them in mirrors?

Never heard of them not being seen in silvered glass.

Never thought vampires were worried about silver. Just crosses and garlic and wooden stakes.

And yeah, I'm aware lore changes from franchise to franchise; modern vampires are all PC and don't care about crosses any more, and I'm not sure if V:tM vampires could be seen in mirrors or not, can't remember.

Every game\book has different lore on Werewolf and Vampires and what effects them. (And who ever wrote vampires 'glow' in sunlight should be shot)

    But in general (lore)
Werewolfs can touch silver but if its in their blood it hurts\kills them. (Injecting a small amount of silver into a werewolf in human form forces them to change to werewolf form and used as a test to find werewolfs) So they have no issues with mirrors.

Vampires can't touch silver and their reflection is destroyed by silver (as in no reflection) But in ESO, you have a reflection if your a vampire.

Most have no issues with garlic, just vampires have a strong sense of spell, so garlic just 'bothers' them so they stay away (lots of other victims to pick) And for wooden stakes in the heart, I think that stuffs up ANYTHING.

I think the lore why silver hurts werewolf's and vampire's is based on silver being a very good antibiotic and being a werewolf or vampire is a form of sickness

Well, it still doesn't answer the question as to whether the Vestige can be seen in a mirror or not, having no soul (putting silver affectation aside, because I still never heard of vampires having ANY issue with silver - Mr B.C. is, in fact, carrying a cane, the head of which is made of gold and silver).

And werewolves should see a wooden stake as non-aggravated damage that they can recover from pretty quickly, the same as a lead slug to the heart doesn't affect them much.

Ok to answer your question, in ESO, vampires have reflections so the Vestige can be since in mirrors and have a reflection. Just stand next to any river and you can see your toon has a reflection. And in ESO a wooden stake to the heart kills the werewolf without issues. Then again, they also die from a single arrow too.

If you are to believe this article then no Vestige would not have a reflection in a mirror. Second paragraph, first sentence :D

omg Dark Shadows! I love that show. Too bad the recent movie was so bleh.

I don't think souls work like that in ESO though, since there's probably more than a few people running around without them already.

Yes. Clan Lasombra had a weakness where they could not be seen in mirrors.
