I don't like quests.
I don't do quests.
I like to roam, kill a bit, pick a few flowers, kill a bit more pve pvp etc all whilst being alone.
I get all the way up to Vet 6 and i'm a happy camper until.....
A friend suggested we do a vet pve dungeon together, what a good idea I say until......
Nope, you can't enter this vet dungeon.
Nope, you can't enter this vet dungeon either.
Try again, this time alone, nope you can't enter this dungeon vet or normal.
Why?
Is it because I haven't done the quests?
Or ..have I got a nasty case of big bad bugs?
I so hope its not that I haven't done the quests.
Help please.

    I don't know the definite answer but have you done any Dungeons?...... I presume you are talking about 'Group Dungeons' such as Spindleclutch, I know they are linked to the Undaunted quest line(no quests just dungeons) which you can pick up by talking to them in an Inn in your original starter city. Maybe picking that up might unlock them but honestly I don't know. :)

    Don't like quests? Oh god, you probably ended in wrong game. :P

    Exactly, try starting undaunted quests. If it change nothing, just go to low level group dungeons and finish them, maybe after you finish all low level group dungeons you will get higher one.

    Have you ever done a dungeon period? The quests in the vet dungeons are continuations of the stories from the normal versions of the dungeons, so maybe you have to do the normal version first before you can enter the vet one? That's just a theory.

    You have to have done a dungeon in your faction before opening up the same level dungeons in other factions...or all level dungeons in other factions. One of those two.

    Go solo the lowest level on normal and see if you can now do all the rest.

    To the OP:

    It all depends on what zone you want to do the dungeon in.

    You have to complete "Cadwell's Silver" in order to unlock the next alliance vet zone (titled 'Cadwell's Gold'). For example:

    If you are AD, you have to complete the EP story questline before the DC zones are open to you. If you are EP, you have to complete the DC story questline before the AD zones are open to you. Finally, if you are DC, you have to complete the AD story questline before the EP zones are open to you.

    If you have done any of the above, then there is really no reason why you cannot enter any dungeon, instanced or not.

    I hope this helps.

    EDIT: just to add, as the other posters have stated, this is a story-driven MMO. If you really do not like questing, this game, unfortunately, is not for you. Unless, of course, you go and PvP. From what they presented at Quakecon, PvP might be a valid way to level your character now, considering they are adding XP and gold rewards to some of the daily quests in the Imperial City (and maybe in other areas too? We'll see...).

    Thankyou for your replies they're much appreciated.
    I have done a few of the quests and most of the dungeons as a solo while passing through all the territories for AD.
    I just can't get into any as a vet at the moment and i'm simply not sure why.
    But I will keep trying.
    I love the game, it IS the game for me, but i'm simply not interested in the story line.
    End game for me will be PvP.
    I can lvl my toons in Craglorn, but thought it might be nice to do a vet dungeon or two as a change to Craglorn grinding.
    Again, thankyou for all your replies.

    You must play a ton, not to do quest and the exp reward for completing. ..If you don't like the story..just rapid click and run to arrow....then along the way pick stuff. I guess if you farm a boss you could level about the same. But that doesn't address your issue....hmmm. The only thing I can think of is that some dungeons might actually have requirements that are quest related. But public and group should be open....especially public. If these are not open and it says something like "you can not enter this yet" then it's definitely tied to quest.
    You could however bring your friend to Cyodil and see if you can find a dungeon there to do. If you grouped with him and teleporting to an area you didn't unlock that might do it also. But since your play style is very unique it's a unique problem...I don't think zos ever thought...what would happen if someone didn't do quest??? Try submitting a ticket with level and dungeon name and see what they say.

    Yeah you must do the one in your zone first to unlock the rest in other factions but this might only be true for the first ones (Banished Cells in your case) or iit might be true for every dungeon.

    And if I recall correctly, someone wrote just 2-3 weeks ago that apparently you don't need to have the original dungeon done in order to go to the Veteran version but I have never tested it.

    Also, you do realize you miss out 4-5 skill points / zone from the main story quests in the given zone? That's like 20-25/faction.
    If you are ever bored, I would recommend googling which ones give the point (in Vet zones Cadwell's Almanach will show those) and do only those quests at least.

    To explain further, I get lost, I get lost a lot, and quests can take me forever to do, and I find that this one thing about them is enough to put me off them. I can get far more xp just wandering around looking at the scenery and grinding a bit, pick some flowers, mine some ore, poke into this cave and that hollow etc.
    I have a map, I open it constantly but I still get lost, I find hills I can't climb and water I can't cross and so on.

    I Googled my problem and found through player posts that public dungeons may also be vet, we tried but no go.. last one was the public dungeon in the Vile Manse, I couldn't even get into that one on my own in either vet or normal.

    I had only got up to quest lvl 25 on the main quest line so I am going to have enough chocolate to choke a horse and try and do these damn quests.

    I don't have a life, I have games instead..heh
    Boredom has never been one of my problems.
    Strange thing is, i've done nearly every dungeon for AD that there is, so all should be opened to me if what other players have said is a fact, but sadly they won't let me in.

    I will go into Cyrodiil and see if we can do vet dungeons there.

    I thankyou all for your input.

    Cyrodiil dungeons are open for you.

    If adventuring is your thing, I hate to say this but you need to complete a set of quests in order to unlock the whole of Tamriel.

    Usually it's 5-7 quests in each zone, together with your main story quests. Just follow what your King/Queen wants and usually it's unlocked.

    Don't worry, you are not alone.
    People keep telling me they're gonna buy me an ale. They never do.

    I wish the would remove the locking of a zone behine a quest out of the game. Then the OP would be free to play they way s/he wants to as other may wish to simply skip the quests.

    THOUGH.... I believe other than side quests that don't tie into the main quests should be off limits till the "main story" is followed....so it makes sense of course. MOST side quests seem OK they wouldn't break immersion if you did them out of order too much.

    Also wanna note I have actually been able to do some main quests out of order not realizing it. This really shouldn't be allowed as again it breaks immersion.

    But yes you should be allowed to kill your way through this game and not be blocked by the main quest..........but that being said NOT sure how you'd get to the other factions for VR content unless they add more VR stuff for you to POP over too so you can still skip the main story.

    I do understand your point but the again... why do you play an RPG game if you hate quests ? This is not the game for you if you hate quests... If you want to run free, kill some players, pick some stuff etc. you should probably play DOTA or LoL.

    Honestly, don't want to start a flame war etc. but why people pick up an RPG game - online or not - and then complain about it being an RPG game ? It's like buying Oreo, and complaining that is has filling...

    Well RPG/MMO's in general have something you cant find in other games.

    1. Meaningful progression. Meaningful since the game never ends...I tried to play Oblivion and Skyrim I just couldn't cause my progression and time invested was meaningless. In an MMO is has meaning and purpose.

    2. Community. Play an MMO for the community, again this gives meaning to the progression.

    Maybe the OP LOVES Elder Scrolls games just not the actual story. This I can understand MANY people play Elder Scrolls for slaughter and mayhem or sometimes just simply exploring the vast and seemingly endless world. And now with an MMO it all has a meaning.

    I wasn't complaining, I was trying to find out why I couldn't do vet dungeons.
    I went into Cyrodiil with my friend and we did get into a dungeon vet lvl so it would seem its only pve at the moment.
    Try to keep sight of the fact that all people are not the same. Some like questing endlessly, others do not. We are all different.
    I have 4 active toons and to have to do all the quests on each and every one of them is frustrating and time consuming.
    I am allowed to have 4 active toons as I like to switch around a bit.
    Allow me to play MY game as I want, and I will allow you to play yours without criticizing you for playing this game or any other.

    there are only 7 vr dungeon right now, those are:
    vr 1-5: banished cell, spindleclutch and fungal grotto (in order of difficulty and the 5 is not a limit, can do them at level 12 too, just can't queue with group finder)
    vr 6-10: wayrest sewers, elder hollow, darkshade cavern.
    vr12: cript of heart.
    those are the INSTANCED VR DUNGEON.
    there are 16 NORMAL INSTANCED DUNGEON.
    16 PUBBLIC DUNGEON (non instanced but better to do in group or u may die)
    and 6 SOLO DUNGEON PER ZONE (no starting island)

    12 CLAGLORN DUNGEON, instanced ones (vr12)
    2 trials (12 man raid)

    Not all MMOs are quest based. By a long shot. There's just a tendency towards that in newer games. Grinding and adventuring is perfectly valid gameplay.

    Logically, not questing should have implications where higher level quests are concerned, theoretically, but limiting access to zones? That's kind of shoddy, IMO, in a "play your way" game.

    That said, there are probably better choices of games than this one. I screwed around with grinding on a newbie alt and even at low levels the grind is insane compared to questing. But to say that all MMOs are like this is untrue.

    im fine with u playing how u want but your reasoning.. how do u get lost? there is a giant marker on your compass, on your map. sorry if i sound mocking but i simply cannot comprehend and this frustrates me for some reason lol. you woulda hated morrowind, no quest markers, u had to read through journals and follow directions eg "the road forks near blahblahblah, i should take the left path and follow untill i see blahblah". and so on. and even npc names ud have to remember and find them. gosh i loved it tho =D

    EDIT: I am all for once u hit vr1 all zones opening up. thatd be awesome!

    @Sapphy24 at Vet 6, you should be able to enter all Veteran Group Dungeons except Crypt of Hearts (which is Vet 11-12). These are:
    * Banished Cells (Vet 1-5)
    * Spindleclutch (Vet 1-5)
    * Fungal Grotto (Vet 1-5)
    * Wayrest Sewers (Vet 6-10)
    * Elden Hollow (Vet 6-10)
    * Darkshade Caverns (Vet 6-10)
    Talking to the Undaunted in the tavern of the main city in each 1-50 zone unlocks all of these on the map (even if you haven't done your own alliance's 'first' one), and all of the other Normal Group Dungeons.

    Your access to Veteran Public Dungeons and Veteran Delve Dungeons is dependent on quests:
    * You need to complete the Main Story quests to access the "Cadwell's Silver" (Vet 1-5) zones and their Public Dungeons and Delves.
    * You need to complete the Cadwell's Silver quests to access the "Cadwell's Gold" (Vet 6-10) zones and their dungeons.

    Edit: If, like me, you think that access to the Final Alliance Zones (Vet 6-10) should not be dependent on completion of Cadwell's Silver, and instead could be based on reaching a certain Vet Rank (eg, Vet 6), then I have a thread about that here.
