FFXIV does not count as back in the day lol

The line of thinking about providing 100% of your content to subscribers does well enough, I think.

back in the day, less was expected from game companies. They had crap customer service, and you'd like it because there were very few options. EQ customer service was atrocious. Account accidentally got deleted? oh well. Corpse irretrievable? Feature. Massive downtime? You didn't think we were going to comp you game time did you?

Back in the day companies didn't have to earn loyalty, they just got it because they were all that was out there.

I prefer now in that sense to back in the day. Though there are plenty of things I prefer from way back.

Honestly, I could care less about trying to make points, I'm just a tired gamer who misses the days where I could pay 15 bucks a month and know that all the content within a game was there waiting for me when I logged in.

So Steam users now can have 2 different dog pets.

I dont mind paying extra but everything should be available in the main account.

oh come on. I totally understand the original complaint, but now you are just complaining to complain.

... and that is what these people do. You see, first it will start (has already started) with the brown not being good enough. Then it will go to "what, I have to PAY FOR THIS??), and then it will move onto other various minutia because you can't please these whiners.
  • txfeinbergsub17_ESO
you know I was behind occupy puppy until this thread. Now even I think you guys just sound whiny and entitled.

I told you it wouldn't stop with getting a brown dog. Caving to this sort of behavior will just lead to more and more whine-fests. That is why ZOS needs to stop this before it gets out of control.

Wait, scratch that. Dogies for no one. That can be just as much of a celebration, if you don't like doggies. True? You've run a maze like a good little rat, but no doggies for you yet. Well, maybe a little.

You my friend are completely and totally mad. ;)

On topic, it's good to see that they've said a dog will be coming soon for everyone. Hopefully the Retriever isn't far behind :)

LoL 'coming soon or availability' has zero correlation to it being applied for 'everyone' and most especially not without some sort of coin. B)

I blame Game of Thrones for the love affair with dogs.

Personally, I can't stand them. Sure they are loyal and friendly, but they dump where they please, are covered in fleas, and bark at the wind until everyone around them is bald.

    No thanks! XD

    Agreed.

Look, I understand ZoS need to make money, I don't see that as an evil or immoral goal.

However, it is possible to make money from people without making them feel that you're just trying to milk them for cash.

I previously played LoTRO. I kept subscribing after the F2P "option" was introduced. In retrospect I'm not honestly sure how, after that change was made, I managed to still keep playing until last year.

Despite paying a subscription I was constantly bombarded, via loading screens and in-game UI elements, with the store.

An ever increasing number of exclusive items and utilities were added to the store at a rate that far outstripped the Turbine Points stipend that subscribers got each month.

New gameplay mechanics would be introduced and, consistently, would have a cash shop element tied into them.

When I tried the FFXIV beta last year I ended up jumping ship immediately. Not just because of the game itself but because of the attitude of the developers. In that game subscribers periodically get free pets and mounts and pretty much everything else is available in-game, even if it requires a bit of effort.

I actually felt that here was a company that yes, was still aiming to make money, obviously, but also aiming to make its subscribers feel valued.

They did recently introduce a couple of additional paid services, an item that allows you to change your character race/gender/appearance and the option to subscribe to additional retainers (NPCs that basically act as storage).

Whilst I still worry that the latter in particular crosses a line I've given Square-Enix the benefit of the doubt simply because of the good will I feel they've generated previously.

In contrast I honestly feel that ZOS' actions this week have made me a little more wary of them. It's not about the dog per se it's about the message it has sent out about the consideration (or lack of) they give to loyal subscribers who are, in effect, already playing for this content.

Companies can make money and make their customers feel valued at the same time. These aren't mutally exclusive concepts. And I think it's something a subscription game must do these days.

As much as I despise so called F2P, as I've said before, it has changed the game, only an idiot could deny that, and a subscription must be able to justify itself that much more than it used to.

This is also why you are going to see a lot more of these type of whine sessions in the future. ZOS just enabled this behavior.

Doesn't really help for me unfortunately. I'd glad play full price for the steam version of the game if I could merge it to my existing account.
I'll also buy the brown dog too obviously, same as the palomino horse even though I have imp edition.

I had a dog in Skyrim. Didn't have him long though. First river we came to he hopped in and drifted off to sea. Never saw him again.

Yes , because that is exactly we are complaining about. How we not having the dog will make us all depressed and affect our real lives.

    Really now?

What was said is that this was a crappy move , we are paying customers and have no reason to deal with this F2P crap zen decided to pull here.

I do hope they learned from this and wont do this kind of *** again.

I am beginning to wonder about some folks... don't take this wrong, I am a true cat lover, but what makes you think a Pet cat would follow you? put your cat down and the next rat runs by and it's gone... At least with a Dog even if you just log out long enough to check your mail the Dog will be happy to see you again, acting if you had been gone for months, but a Cat? come back 2 weeks later and the cat will look at you like "Oh, your back, it's time to feed me, then I will take a nap"

Cat pets should be related to fishing, the cat will follow you as long as a fish is in your pack...
Of all the things I have lost, I miss my mind the most...

Well said, my friend. I resubscribed back to FFXIV just recently and hold it as a standard more western developers should consider. Account services are a good compromise, I feel, if needed to be monetized at all.

Just FYI the ESO shop has had an exclusive Palomino horse since release, which at least has some use in-game

A pet is a vanity item, nothing more. I have 4 in game and it's a rather silly and childish thing to get your panties in a bunch about, yes?

It's not childish when it is something that you enjoy in a MMO (collecting pets that is) and cannot obtain this one unless you completely start over your character on a different account.

This is EXACTLY how I feel. Although for me it's not about having " All the pets" it's about having the "best" pet. Or my favorite. Which is the dog... By far... I've watched dogs in the game and I've always wondered why I can't have one as a pet.

I think one of the main differences there is that it is offered as a permanent option.

The best argument I've heard is that players who did not care about the game enough to start playing before are being given a more desirable item than those of us which have been loyal fans. All the people who want to argue about how incentives are normal, fail to realize that there are so many ways to give new incentives without giving them items that the current fans have not yet received. I was one of the people who complained about not getting a beta monkey. I was also one of the people who asked for a cat or a dog. I've been asking, and instead of giving me what I ask for, they create it and give it to people who haven't even played the game. It's just bad business.
