    Not bad.

Here's a chart of similar MMOs sub numbers.

Give it up. Most AAA MMO titles are sitting around a million subs right now, and they're far beyond the 3 month mark.

We have no idea how accurate this number is, because the sources aren't cited. We don't know whether it's good or bad for ZO in terms of profitability. We don't know any of that. Please stop now.

Take into account a lot of those will be the 3 month subs peeps bought and have already bailed on the game.
The suit's will already be putting together their get out plans which usually consists of a large quick cash grab.
Anything below 1m for AAA game is a VERY bad thing for the gamers also as it means no Investment will be coming from the bean pushers.

UO still has 300k subs.....it's 17 years old now and run from basically a large house. A 3 month old game with 750k? *holds head in shame*

Actually its not that bad. FF14 released on PC PS3 and PS4 and has around 400-500k subs and considered a huge success.

400-500k subs, but THEY say thay have "Over 2 Million Players". Where does the 400-500k subs come from?

2 million registered. Technically I'm still registered even though I haven't paid in months. I'll look for the interview they did not too long ago. They didn't come out with hard numbers but hinted with it being around 500k.

For one that has been drenched in bad publicity? It's actually quite a fantastic number. Also consider that WoW had close to this number 3 months after its launch.

Worrying about sub numbers misses the whole point.
Perhaps a subconscious fear of committing to a different mmo?
    Too expensive? Unsubscribe.
Doesn't act like WoW? Play WoW.
Too buggy? You knew what this was.

If you enjoy playing ESO, as I do, that is reason enough.
    It ain't easy being green.

Next interesting thing will be the console launch. Will it force a numbers release or will we still be in the dark how many of us are in the game.

So if it's 775k then perhaps they should focus on the consoles. That potentially adds another 500k thinking of console and new Steam customers combined.

As someone said. Considering the negativity around this game over the last 60 days. Not bad at all

Nowadays 775k isn't that bad. I'd say multiple factors could have made them lower:

People are easily disappointed and move on. Higher standards and such.
There are plenty of others out there to play.
More people rather not pay monthly fees, or even pay for the game itself, and go for F2P games.

I'm really surprised it is listed to have 775k, especially with all the bugs and such.

We're in july now tho, so its probably about 200k less than that, give or take :P

That amount of subscribers if accurate means that ESO is the second highest subscribed game in the west. With WoW being still higher and EVE just under (although you can halve EVEs numbers as almost everyone has more than one account)

I would be skeptical, but now that the OP posted those numbers, they're in TWO places on the internetz!

They have to be true now!
This message confirms that you have successfully cancelled your subscription to The Elder Scrolls Online. You will no longer be charged for a subscription on a recurring basis, and your access to the game will expire at the end of your current subscription cycle.

775K - if true - isnt so bad. But keep in mind the subscription choices available... People that picked 3 months (which I would guess is very common for the "want to try and see but not spend the cash for 6+" type) should still have time left. I have cancelled already and barely play the game anymore, but still probably count as a current subscriber for another 20 days.

Still, if it has nearly a million subs maybe there is some hope for future improvements.

This thread shows exactly why they should never under any circumstance actually release the numbers.

Say this number is accurate. That means there was a minimum of 1,000,000 copies sold if 775k are still playing months later. That is assuming that only 25% of the player base left which it would be much higher than that.

So that would be a minimum of 60-80 million just from initial sales. At least 20 million from subs. So these numbers would point to the game at the low end recouping 100 million in only two months of sub time without the consoles even being sold yet and people are saying FAIL.

Oh I know there was no way in hell that they had 2mil subs, but they decided they would put that number up there instead of their sub count for whatever reason, even tho it includes the number of hackers, bots, and bug exploiters they had to get rid of...

No, that would just mean that 25% of the monthly subscribers have already left. The 3 months sub aint up for renewal yet.

If you go to the source article it says more. They collect data on 40 million gamers from a combination of sources including payment processors and publishers. It's a reputable industry source so probably has some degree of robustness.

These numbers are below average for a AAA MMO three months out of release. They're not "the end of the world" bad, but to put it into perspective, SWTOR had 1 million more subscribers by this point.

Are you crazy? If the numbers are true, they're absolutely great--putting it in the number two slot for western subscription-only MMO's, with the console release still ahead.

11 million coming in per month, and more almost certainly coming with the consoles. Not to mention all the initial game sales. This, from a game that got blasted as a failure, is healthy and optimistic in future outlook, as anyone could have hoped.

And where did you pull those UO numbers from anyway? (And did it hurt to pull them out?)

They didn't ever have 300k. And were way less than half that in 2008 even. Can't always believe wikipedia I guess, but it's sure a lot better than the citation you provided for your UO number--ie, nothing. Which is what I guess the value of your analysis amounts to.
From Wikipedia: [5] Since Ultima Online's prime in 2003, the overall subscriber base has seen a steady decline. Subscriber numbers peaked at around 250,000 in July 2003, and in 2008 sat around 100,000 subscribers.[6] As of April 2008, Ultima Online held a market share below 0.6% of the massively multiplayer online game subscriptions.[7]

Yet you, OP, with such a firm grasp of facts, "holds your head in shame" and have the audacity to claim that ESO's (supposed) numbers are not just bad, but "really bad"?

Throws back head in derisive laughter at the failed troll.
