There are no positive reviews or feedback for any game anymore on any forum. There is only pre launch hype followed shortly by mass post release criticism.

Just the fact that so many people are talking about it is a good sign. It's when the forums are dead that you have to truly worry.

You would get loads of negative post on steam just because it is a subscription game. Then they actually made people buy it too. That is enough to throw most steam user people right into a fit of rage.

Fixed it for you for this can be seen literally everywhere, not just on Steam. :P

    Hmm. Young generation perhaps?

I'm thinking here of telephones, where you must buy a phone and then pay for monthly service. Hell, I remember when telephones could only be rented through your telco monopoly (Bell Canada, in my case) - it was revolutionary when they offered me a telephone to buy, that I could pay for on my monthly bill (a basic touch-tone phone, in 1994 or 5 I think, cost me $120, plus whatever Bell's interest was.) I still have a landline (with a much better monopoly) that is bundled with my internet; I have a $15 phone that I wound up hating and wish would die quickly.

But .. when it came time to break down and get a cell phone .. I brought a bunch of money with me, earmarked for throwing at a cell phone company. They signed me up with a reasonable plan, and GAVE me a cell phone .. and then didn't want money up front. I was quite confused.

I guess I'm old enough to be used to people squeezing me.
Well, I am nearly 24 so I am definitely not someone from the older generation, although luckily not that young either. Yes, kids in general tend to be whining more in my experience. Especially when a game is not f2p, when they got beaten in a game, when they cannot get everything they want and when they want (instantly).

I just hope potential customers will skip such forums altogether.

Very true indeed. According to steam stats over 41,000 steam users have been on today so perhaps it's doing ok.

Well if in the medium term it trains companies to realise they have to close the gap between what they promise and what they deliver then we'll all win.

The sooner companies realise there's a reputational cost that then translates into lost customers attached to 'release and charge now, fix later' the better.

The problem is not the dog per se, it's the fact that you are an early supporter of ESO, shell out the money for the Imperial Edition and a few months later you already get locked out of content. It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Things are changing and it's up to us consumers to hand them the bill in the form of reviews and cancelled subs.

My sub has a few months still to run and I've cancelled the renewal. I'll have a look at how things are going nearer the time. But I am not going to keep paying while they fix all the stuff that shouldn't have been broken in the first place.

Quite happy to come back and pay them when they do. hopefully things will get to a decent state by then.

So long as we make excuses and keep handing over money companies will think it's fine to continue as they are.

It's a sad state of affairs over there.

There we go again, plenty of people dislike the game and express their opinions which happen to differ to yours so that must mean that they are irrational 12 year old's. The maturity of you statement is lacking.

I feel sorry for those who forked out so much for the imp addition, only for it to be sold at such a reduction so soon.

It's not that, I pre-ordered the initial CE physical copy so I got what I wanted there (book mostly, but the statue was at least interesting, and sits next to my Skyrim CE statue). I actually expected a price reduction earlier, but I guess the QuakeCon weekend sale on Steam is a pretty good release time.

The issue to me is, as has been stated before, that they have said: "All content for all users." I would much prefer a dog pet; Might even pull it out once in a while if I had it. Alas, it isn't meant to be; That is some content that I guess us folks that have been here since Beta just can't have.

Not being able to merge/transfer the account to a Steam one is just [snip] poor planning. They had to have known that it would be something wanted, and they had to have had this in the works for a while to get the authentication working. One would think it would be pretty trivial to add in the hooks for auth on an existing account.

So, IMO, a lot of the vehement drivel being spewed is because:
    1. There is no way for existing customers to either (a) Pay for another copy on Steam, and use the code for the Pet; or (b) Merge their accounts with a Steam account.
    2. There is no way for existing customers to throw money at ZOS to buy the Dog to link to their account
    3. ZOS seems to be completely ignoring their existing customers who have been asking for exactly what they are now giving away to new customers, and have no way of getting.

So, yeah. This whole fiasco should, IMO, completely fall on managerial/marketing's head. If they paid any attention to their current customer base, then they would have seen this coming a mile away. It's pretty obvious though that they didn't pay attention so...

I have never seen such a torrent of hate as I have just seen on the steam forums. I don't know why I feel the need to protect the game from complete *** but I seem to try. I hope this inclusion on steam doesn't have an adverse effect on the game that we mostly love.

You don't need to defend the game. Pay your sub and tell your friends. If ESO remains P2P after the console launch, they'll eventually come around.

Holy smokes. People actually want Steam functions on their games? What is the world coming to? People used to rightly be PO'd when having to deal with steam and now they're whining about not having it. I think people just want to complain.

I honestly think the disillusioned masses of young'ns that grew up with WOW are hopping from MMO to MMO as they release trying to find their next fix, but do not realize that a brand new game will not have the polish of a 10 year old game. So they whine and complain and troll to their hearts content and just play MOBAs in between.

Regarding the Steam achievements, cards, and timers, I don't think that the Steam buyers will be getting that anyway. I think it's basically just a new way to download & pay the initial purchase price, with no steam integration.

I personally think a dog is much better than a monkey / crab / etc (which to me are all immersion breaking), but having said that, I am not a fan of pets in any case. A dog is at least slightly realistic. However - pets are a way to provide a unique reward to particular groups of people (beta testers etc). So I am not at all surprised or upset that Steam buyers are getting their own pet.

From what I've heard, I don't think you'll get the stat tracking anyway, because the game won't be integrated into the Steam system. Although if you find out otherwise, it'll be good if you could let us know.

This is what I am annoyed about.

I'm a completionist and really like this game, so I was ready to pay full price for another copy of the game if it meant I could have the dog.

It especially irks me because my main is a Nord that I really enjoy playing.

I REALLY hope that they eventually make this "exclusive" item available through the cash shop or retroactively add hooks to allow the linking of accounts to get the dog.

If they don't I'm going to really sad.
