Not to complain--but still no yay or nay on nameplates?

The whole immersion argument people keep toting falls apart because of the health bars. There's no reason why there can't be a name tag and guild tag above that health bar that shows up for everyone.
Is it better to out-monster the monster or to be quietly devoured?

And, as usual in these threads, the first few "no one wants them" posts are proven wrong by the follow up posts that show, yes indeed, many people in fact DO want them.

I still think that name plates should at least be optional for those who want to use them. I have a very hard time identifying enemies, especially in pve/dungeons, when there's a lot of effects and spells going off. The enemies will literally blend in with the background in the thick of action and be difficult to spot.

They've gone through the effort to have minimal items on screen for immersion. I can't see them going against that with a bunch of crazy nameplates running around. However, I'm in favor of it IF they make it an option to turn it on or off.

I would sure like nameplates for small groups at least (4 people or less). It can be damn hard following your group sometimes in large situations (of course that could be by design heh)

*shrug* crown, ^, and, if memory serves, healthbars. Lack of an updating minimap showing where they are is far more of a problem then no way to follow them when they're actually on screen. (I *think* you can change the options to always show the healthbars of group members? I know you can with enemies. Probably the first option I changed in the UI.)

Sending a quick thanks to someone in the heat of battle or when they do a drive-by buff is an exercise in frustration--they're gone by the time you do it half the time--makes the whole experience feel faceless and rude.

    /say Thanks for buff!

Not terribly difficult. I wouldn't even try and whisper thanks to somebody in games that have nameplates in the midst of combat.

I would like it as an optional feature, those who want it can turn on nameplates and those who don't can have it off and not have to see them.

Oh, and to clarify, I *am* in favor of nameplates, they make it easier to know who said what in say if you don't happen to know people on sight. I'm just saying there are easy workarounds to most of the problems caused by their absence.

    /say Thanks for buff!

    Uh... no.

A generic "/say Thanks" or whatever, with other people around is confusing, and very prone to be missed in a busy chat window. It's also prone to being missed, especially if someone is moving.

It's better to direct it at a name--any other MMOs I've played let you click, hit a key, and you're sending them a tell. Even with nameplates, this one will probably never have that ease of use due to the Mouse Movement method they use, which is a shame. Still, the nameplates will make it much easier to see who someone is when you do need to type in their name for a tell (not to mention lots of other conveniences it adds) which gets rid of the confusion, and hits them even when they move out of sight.
