Not to complain--but still no yay or nay on nameplates?

Nothing in the Road Ahead, again, regarding that simple feature--overhead name plates w/1 guild listed -- that a lot of people want as an option. Granted, some don't. One way or another, though, its about time they address whether they're putting them (back) in. To me, it's a major issue regarding the anonymity/lack-of-social-feel to this game.

I wouldn't put it quite like that, but the answer to "name plates?" has always been "NO." Picture, if you will, 200 on-screen players in PvP. Overlay 200 nameplates. It's probably the most immersion-killing thing you could do to ESO.

So I find myself agreeing with you, @mutharex... hey, there's a first time for everything... ;-)

I would sure like nameplates for small groups at least (4 people or less). It can be damn hard following your group sometimes in large situations (of course that could be by design heh)

Citation? You're not just referring to the limited, ugly way they were implemented in beta, are you? Because you seem to be privy to information that "they" said something specific about them per se that I haven't seen?

    Or are you just projecting?

I would like guild tags of some sort when you target someone. Maybe how titles are currently displayed under the name. You should have the option as to whether you want yours seen and could select which guild to display.

ESC -> Settings -> Nameplates: OFF

There. Your immersion is back, without taking away something a LOT of PVE players want very badly.

They are working on that, not sure if it's already part of Update 3 but they said they want us to be able to customise the info that are shown

Uh huh. So, basically you're saying that, yeah, you make crap up to suit your opinion, then attempt to joke about it. Guess what--it doesn't make your first statement any less disingenuous.

They haven't said anything about an implementation of them, other than pulling the half-baked version they tested in early beta.

And...Wowclone? Seriously? As if WoW invented them? Did EQ1 and even earlier MMOs come to the future and steal them from Blizzard?

Fact is, optional nameplates are in MOST MMOs--essentially, all of them.

And for good reason. As an option, they would go a long way for solving the horrible lack of social interaction in this game.

Nameplates should be treated like they should treat chat bubbles: make them an optional setting

    this...
FYI - There is no such thing as 'night capping' in a world wide MMO.
FYI - There was no paid Beta. When they launched the game the Beta was over, even if you don't think it was.
    FYI - It's B2P not F2P. There is a difference.
FYI - It doesn't take any player skill to mash keys or buttons in this game. The ones that stay alive longer have the better internet connection and speed.
FYI - The game is not broken, it still works. It just has 'bugs' that need to be fixed.
    Balance is a "Bad" thing.

Example: There were hundreds of Jedi and only two Sith in Star Wars. The Jedi wanted, "Balance in the Force" and they got it. Now there are only two Jedi and two Sith.

    Balance is a "Bad" thing.

I've found while discussing many games on many forums that NOBODY understands what optional means when it comes to UI elements. I would love nameplates for group dungeons and content like that, but everyone will complain about immersion and forget what optional means.

Was that the royal "we", mate?

And, yeah, "really" on the lack of social interaction. I have to turn toward people, one at time, or freelook my mouse, to see who they are. Can't click to send a tell or an emote. Not even a damn chime when you get a whisper. Sending a quick thanks to someone in the heat of battle or when they do a drive-by buff is an exercise in frustration--they're gone by the time you do it half the time--makes the whole experience feel faceless and rude. Someone helps you in battle, and if you didn't happen to mouse over them and get their name, and do it AGAIN when you next see them, chances are you won't even know its the same person. Just one catch all zone chat for OOC, advice, trade, etc. No inspection of other players. Not even a freaking /follow. No guild tags (yet). Some of these deficiencies are handled by addons, but that's a royal cop out to rely on LUA scripts by 3rd parties for basic MMO features.

So, yeath. HORRIBLE social interaction in this game compared to other MMOs. Really.

Not guild just name, title, and rank, but they are adding tabbards as a way of showing which guild your in.

So--you create the tabard from a bunch of preset symbols and colors. And to know someone's guild--you would need to know, by sight only, the guild's tabard??

Nice feature, but not enough. Optional nameplates, with optional (1) guild name, is still needed.

FTC lets you see your own name (I believe) but you still have to mouse over others players, one at a time, to see theirs.

We're discussing an option to show, without mousing, names above all the characters on the screen.

Ideally with a mappable key to turn the feature on/off on the fly (you don't want it on in a crowded bank, for instance).

And options to show 1 guild affiliation, alter the colors/font/size.

And customizable to show any or all between: Players, NPCs, MOBs.

1 thing i really hate about pvp in eso is the lack of nameplates or ablilities to mark friendlies (a number or smiley face that only I can see).

Yes you can see the crown but the crown isn't always the person in my raid that I want to keep track of.

If you don't want to spoil your immersion and have nameplates or markings thats fine, don't have them, but please please please don't be a meanie head and stop me having them.

Not only that but I want it so that if I choose to turn nameplates off (which I would) I don't want my name to appear as a nameplate on anyone else's screen.

I would love to see name plates as an optional feature. In order to keep things viable in PvP they could simply make nameplates disappear when a player goes into stealth mode so the name won't give away their position.
