The solution here is obvious: no unnatural colors!

Keep the available colors to a expansive but preset list of what would have been available or is available on the color pallets of in world fabrics.

For example, green is prevalent in the bosimer areas, blue in the altmer areas, and red pops up from time to time on NPCs. I've never seen hot pink reflected on an NPC.

As someone pointed out on a different thread, the range of colours you can get naturally is far larger than people realise. For example during the middle ages bright Pinks/Blues/Reds were easily obtainable, and in shades we would call Electric or DayGlow.

As for restricting the colours by area, this kind of defeats the point of dyes, they are so we can change our colours, and personalise our outfits. Plus it would mean we would simply travel to different areas so we could dye them (once dyed the colours would have to remain).

The dye system will only apply to armor.

    Ahhh man.

I was really hoping for a vivid red fiery sword.

I've been so blue without a dye system... Certainly looking forward to not being blue anymore.

I wonder if perhaps one day we might be able to dye out shields though? That would be nice, especially considering some are quite coloured.

Shields are considered armor in this game so they may be actually. Especially if you can put an insignia on them. Guild or personal.

Are they? I'm not so sure, especially considering which skill-line they're linked to (Weapons). I'd like to know for certain one way or another though. I've found it's always been a lacking function in games that can dye: The lack of dye on shields.
If you can be anything, be kind.

I'm not even using a shield on anything at the moment, and hope you can dye shields. It'd be an incentive right there to try sword and board on something.
