Problem

Yesterday I sold 72 filled grand soul gems and the player has not returned the email but they aren't have not opened it yet either. I tried contacting said player and they replied that they would open it eventually if they ever decided they need them / want them.

Solution

Is there anyway we can put an experation timer on COD mail to prevent this in the future?

I ask because if they cancel theyre sub I'm out, if they never open the mail im out. I am sure I am not the only one having these issues. and an experation time would be nice. I am going to chalk this up as stupid tax and move on and just never do COD trades again.

Thanks for your time.

An expiration timer is a nice idea imo. No I haven't myself had this issue but I know there are people who have.

its frustrating behavior like this is why I was undecided on whether or not to buy ESO in the first place. Another. question also comes to mind. what happens if they delete the email before. taking the attachments? are they returned to me or destroyed?

    What in the name of...????
How inconsiderate is this player? You have mailed him/her a load of expensive stuff in a trade deal, and then he/she has just decided not to take the goods and pay up, just waiting until if/when they decide they need the items? And in the meantime you have lost those items and haven't received any payment for them, and you have no way of canceling the transaction (which may allow you to sell them to someone who wants them right away and will pay for them right away).

I have never had this happen, but unless I have misunderstood, this is quite frankly disgusting... (that player who decided to just leave the goods in their mail unpaid for leaving you out of pocket had better just hope I never meet him/her in Cyrodil, that's all I can say)

Very simple fix would be allow vendor to cancel a deal if the transaction hasn't gone through after 24 hours (24 because many folks are not in the game 24/7 so give reasonable scope for honest people to have a life outside the game and still be able to trade!) - utterly ridiculous state of affairs to have this going on.

thats why if I sell anything above 5k, Like a deadric motif, I demand a open trade, if they want it they come to me.

have heard this happening sometime ago, that made me go this way.

They should make so the mail comes back after like 24 hours if they dont pay the cod

Aye, the few times I've bought higher value items it's been in face to face trade, meet up somewhere and open the trade screen.
Otherwise I tend to buy/sell stuff via guild stores, I only use COD type trades with friends and trusted guildmates.
But yeah absolutely, if a vendor has sent a COD trade via mail and it is not honoured, then after 24 hours it should either be returned automatically, or give the vendor opportunity to cancel the trade and get their goods back, rather than have them sit in limbo indefinitely while the 'buyer' thinks about it for a while.

The fact that I always do my best to be fair n my trades and sales, is what makes this so frustrating. I knocked 2.5k off the price because they couldn't afford the full amount. I was just trying to help a Guy out I guess that's what I get. its like when I make armor for petiole I make it green level automatically. with no extra charge. the price doesn't. go up unless they want blue level or higher.

Indeed, that's what makes it especially horrible - if you are the sort of person who always plays fair and tries to help people out and then **** like this happens :(
There could so easily be in-game mechanisms to protect people against this sort of thing though, and a big old "cancel trade" button after 24 hours would be completely reasonable.

I find it hard to stomach that people behave like this. But then I had a scenario yesterday where for a quest I had to gather stuff out of wasp hives and I swear there were a bunch of people following me round and waiting for me to kill the wasps, then swooping in and getting the quest objective - I wasn't just doing the quest for myself, I was clearing enemies for at least 3 other people and there was not one word of thanks, no-one was interested in grouping and doing it co-operatively, it was just like "nah we're fine, you kill the wasps then we'll nip in and get the quest objectives while you're finishing them off" - miserable waste of space gamers who wouldn't understand the word co-operative if it jumped up and slapped them in the face. :(

In any large enough random collection of people, some will inevitably be mean, small minded, inconsiderate, lazy, stupid, or whatever negative trait you pick. If I encounter a "passive follower" like this, I just draw some aggro their way to force them to help. Some people just run away when I do this, but if they stay and fight, I make sure to help them out.

Seriously? This is a sad case. You can get this player blacklisted by some major entities. I had someone do this same thing to me when I "sold" them 20xdreugh wax. Told a few people. This person now gets kicked out of more groups than Rudolf.
