What is the transition from level 50 to VR?

I’m particularly wondering when you hit level 50 if VR1 comes straight up as your next target level (As if it were just level 51) or you have to finish a quest to ‘start’ VR?
I want to know because I’m always a few levels above my quests and I don’t want to waste that experience once I hit level 50.

The instant you hit level 50, you transition to VR1.

I didn't. I stayed at L50 until I zoned.

I was in Coldharbour when the transition took place. Maybe that's why it changed instantly?

I presumed I reached level 50 then the level following that was v1.

I was wrong, so really we have levels 1 to 49 then 12 vet levels

It looked as I reached level 50 then it went instantly to VR1.

This. I was level 49 then when I leveled it showed level 50 with a full bar and a few seconds later I was VR1.

Leveling in cold harbor, I was level 49. Then I was VR1.
