"The Road Ahead" - Update Today... Maybe ?

They just fixed the guild store seach filters. An auction house is bad idea and I hope it doesn't happen. Plus they already have other plans. Stop beating this dead horse.

They won't switch the PvP campaigns for a long time, not at least until they fix the crippling lag.

Hopefully we will see armor dyes, buffs for stamina users, and another round of balancing to bring templars up a bit and DKs down some more.

I have reversed my opinion and now want a global AH. The guild stores "might" have worked if the population was strong/steady. Now guild store after guild store continues to die.

I'd love for them to announce "No new content until what we have is fixed", but I doubt we'll get that...
All we can do is hope the new stuff doesn't break/bug too much.

The game doesn't need a road ahead--it needs a superhighway, with actual developers coming to the forums and posting like crazy just like they do in Wildstar.

We don't want generic useless statements like "we're working on making the game better" filtered through intermediaries, or "we'll talk about it in another two weeks at Quakecon". It's always another two weeks, and then we don't actually get any real meat--just generic statements with no substance--and it's another two weeks gone.

ZOS, we know you care. Of course you do. But...you're not showing it. Players on the fence have lost faith and are canceling their subs left and right. My guilds are emptying out and many zones are a ghost town.

Now, I don't like Wildstar--it's flat-out a direct copy of WoW, which is no surprise given their development team came from Blizzard. It's a terrible game for players who like to solo, and has a host of other issues.

One problem they don't have, though, is their developers actually talk directly to the community. They don't give generic statements full of hot air, and they fix things fast. Real fast. If something is broken they admit it, openly and honestly, and they fix it extremely quickly. They are not afraid to admit their mistakes, and from the perspective of ESO, that's incredibly refreshing.

Even their engineers and of course their game designers are constantly on their forums and talk directly to the players. Yes, their programmers, devs, engineers, you name it they speak right to the players on their forums.

Everybody knows that Werewolves are completely useless. Offensively, defensively, survival skills, all of it is mathematically worse when you are in Werewolf form. It's better to just stay in human form, and if you're doing that, what's the point of the design?

If turning into a Werewolf cost zero ultimate, it would still be a terrible decision by the player. This isn't murky. It's well known in the game. WW was designed horribly and needs a complete rework. You have yet to simply admit to it, which leads players to think you are either not competent, don't care, or actually (and this is almost unimaginable) think all is rosy with Werewolves.

The same issue exists for stamina-based builds. Can you get through the game wielding daggers and wearing medium armor, using primarily stamina-based skills? Sure you can--but it's really, really painful in comparison to magicka builds and don't expect to be welcomed to raid teams, because your dps is a joke. Strap on that light armor, pick up that staff, and melt faces like everybody else. Tinkering with medium armor like you did recently isn't enough--stamina skills are still really, really bad.

Some of these game features don't need tinkering. They need serious, significant changes.

ZOS, please lose the game designer hubris that everything you've done was great or even good, or will somehow magically work out if you fiddle with things here and there. When a game design feature is bad, it's bad. Period. Admit it and make changes with rapidity. We don't care if you made mistakes as long as you fix them and fix much more quickly than you have so far. The patient is dying on the table here.

Of course you made some terrible game design decisions. You just did. We know it. You know it. It's not exactly a secret, guys. You have passion, but if you're young and inexperienced, or you just made mistakes, it doesn't matter any more. You don't have time to just let the game continue to bleed.

You need a sea change with regard to how you communicate with your players. A. Sea. Change. Tear up your current system which consists of pretty much saying nothing of actual substance for weeks at a time and throw it out. It's not working.

You need a sea change with regard to how you reflect on your own game design skills. Admit to yourselves that some game systems are simply awful--either scrap them out right or redesign them from scratch.

Now, I don't recommend Wildstar to anyone, as I just don't like the gameplay--but if ZOS doesn't figure out how to connect with their customers like Carbine does with its Wildstar subscribers, the bleeding will continue. Given the few players left in the formerly large guilds I belong to, it's not a trickle--it's gushing out.

My guild of a large number of die-hard PvP'ers left for Wildstar because the lag in Wabbajack was unbearable. We had 11 players in the top 20 for Emperorship, 6 of those in the top 10, and owned the Emperor position at the time. This isn't just some random group of players I'm talking about. You lost a lot of customers who loved the PvP in the game....but couldn't play it. Zero communication from ZOS + unplayable lag in Wabbajack + Wildstar = lost customers.

    You can fix this.
    • Post a "Road Ahead" message that is long on meat and short on PR.
    • Get your developers, engineers, coders, artists, level designers, lore writers and producers to personally post on the forums and post often.
    • Convince your game designers that they made mistakes and made them in a big way. They're human, they made some really bad calls, and are willing to admit it and fix the game even when that means scrapping entire systems that simply do not work.
Turn this train wreck back into the great game we all thought it could be.

    Thanks.

Road's closed for repairs. They hired city union workers. So we're going to be here a while. Time to fry up some hot dogs on the radiator.

The only thing that annoyed me was it was already the templar go to skill. So you buffed. Now it is close to the only templar mandatory skill if you are dps. I know with only 5 spots you cant have an army of dps skills there, but i would have liked another option, not making the one good skill most people used already, even better.

as someone who has played all 4 classes in a effectively identical setup (mage) the perspective on class skills when used by the same build i found that Templar is far from one of the weaker DPS classes, and is in fact one of the best AOE options in the game thanks to several spammable moves, 2 of which is the best ranged AOE spammable move in the game.
I play every class in every situation. I love them all.

    Agreed.

It was a nice idea at first, but having to constantly find new trading guilds because of population drop offs is taking its toll.

Well according to Mr Firor, we will be getting the next "The Road Ahead" update, blog, thingie this week !

Considering tomorrow is 4th July (pretty important date for the yanks) and basically a holiday all weekend for them, I'm guessing we should hear something today ! ?

As the German CM allready stated out, there won't be anything before the weekend and he allready told this two days ago.

    - Armor and Temper preview. (Probably quicker to impliment than their dye system.)

    - Heavy armor buff.

Oh wait, I think that's all I want right now. :P
