Enter a store complaint departement, and ask people standing in line there whether they would recommend the store to a friend or family member.

People who enjoy the game have much less motivation to come to the forums and post than people who are unhappy with the game.

I have and my two friends didn't particularly enjoy their experience. One is an avid GW2 player who disliked Skyrim, he played for two weeks, hit veteran rank 1 and unsubbed. The other doesn't play MMOs at all, he played for a month, hit level 20 and unsubbed.

I don't know anyone in real life who plays ESO, but I do recommend it to people I think may enjoy the game, there's a lot of content out there in terms of the 3 factions and Craglorn for at least 1 play through.

That being said the first friend said he may come back in a few months depending on whether ZeniMax steps up or not, so there's that.

Yes because I want to torture them.
I jest. I would recommend it, but I'd let them know all the downsides.

Best form of marketing is refering. Would you refer it to a family or friend? Why?

    1. I have watched 7 RL's leave already (and 2 co-workers). All of them cited a few common things and a few different things. I will focus on a few of the common ones.

    Common:
    A. 1-5 limited skill bar. My friends like 1-9 and called ESO "amateur" for it.

    B. Nerf loot of "Spawn Camping." They are casual types who just like to find a nice spot with a boss that has some loot (soul gems/potions, a few greens and maybe a blue) and sit and chill.

They would chat about the day at work and things at home and even politics in group chat while taking it easy for 3-4 hours a day. This nerf was targeted at botters but ultimately ruined the game for my friends. Then other parts of the game were ruined for them with other nerfs that followed.

    2. I am not 100% certain I want to be the guy with my name on the recommendation. That would be like suggesting you to hire someone I know. I am not sending you "my friend" but someone who I think you can actually use. I want to suggest/recommend a great game, not one they might not like.

    3. I don't feel the game is "stable" - that is, I don't know ESO will exist in 2 years. It is rough when an MMO you are playing shuts down and ESO hasn't taken the steps that show the game is actually stable. They haven't released number of subscribers, number of population in each faction, these things are all kept secret. Games that are actually doing well tend to brag. They are proud of their customer base.

    Final Note:

I hope in one year time, taking this poll will make me answer "HECK YES!"

I have tried, but none of my friends will sign up without having an opportunity to try the game first -- and since there are no guest passes or 'refer a friend' invites available at the moment, they are a bit weary of forking out $80 for the game and $15/month in subscription for something they're not sure they'll like yet....

However if there were guest passes guess how many more botters we would have?

I know a few people in my guild has left the game as well and said they might come back 6 month from now once ZoS get the game fixed and stop nerfing the abilities and fix the memory leaks.

I am sorry to say, but no. Right now, at its current state I just can not. Besides, I already did my best to get friends to join ESO, ever since the Beta days.

Actually started with 3 other friends during the Betas, 2 of them in the end decided not to buy the game (I guess because there were already a myriad of bugs and troubles during Betas, like tons of quests not working, and despite the awesome world, they both agreed that the game was not ready for release yet).

The remaining friend of mine was quite enthusiastic though, so we both pre-ordered our Imperial editions and eagerly started our (new) characters at head start (early access), both also buying 3-month subs.

We played today every day and surely we had a great time, yes there were a few hiccups here and there, very minor things though that we hardly minded. All that until, wait for it... yes... we reached Coldharbour and sometime through it (and after defeating Molag Bal) we were "promoted" to VR status, hooray!

And we promptly moved to the first VR zones. Things were not quite so bad, since we were always duoing, but somehow... the whole thing felt not quite right.

The result: my friend virtually gave up, has not even logged in for more than 3 weeks now. Tried to roll another character, got that to VR1 too, it felt even worse.

As for myself, I completely stopped using my VR character, instead started another 2 characters. One is close to VR again, so I stopped and just serves as my crafter. The other one is still below lvl 40, going through a different faction, and of course feels fine so far. What will happen when this one also gets to VR?

I should add that we are (were) both "casuals", meaning taking our time through the content, exploring, doing this and that, reading the quest text and listening to dialogues and all that. So, in no way we were "burnt out" rushing to VR 10 (or 12) in a few days.

I used to be so excited about ESO, and tried to advertise it and "promote" it with fervour to all my friends and convince them to join. Sadly, I feel I can not do this any more. It would not even be honest of me to do, because I know they would grow to dislike it and be disappointed. In its current state.

The whole affair saddens me greatly, I am still in ESO every day, still spending my few hours there, and still trying to have some good time. But all the people I knew are gone, the guilds I joined are "ghost towns", and I honestly can not see myself rolling alt after alt anymore.

People will probably say it is my faulty and "biased" opinion, fair enough, this is what it is then. But it is a honest opinion and account of my experience in ESO so far. For whatever it is worth, probably less than nothing.

I will close by stating for once more, that I still (probably against all odds) have some hope for ESO, that somehow with updates in the near future things will change. For the better. And people will flock back somehow. Until that happens I can no longer run around holding up a huge sign saying how great ESO is and trying to "sell it" to more friends. Sorry.

A month or 2 ago I would have, now... probably not.
