Veteran Rank 5 - can I move on?

jdandrews108b14_ESO
Joined the Ebonheart Pact and didn't give it a second though.
Love the game, Love the PvP, love my devotion to my faction.

Really dislike how I am now told to go help the enemy factions. They don't even provide us with many fun "Sabotage-like" options in quests so I'm not rescuing the damn enemy king.

Anyway made it to Vet5 last night, wondering if I can skip over the third faction and move right into Craglorn quests and mob grinds to gain levels? I was able to enter Craglorn at rank 4, but things were very difficult to kill. I also would love to know if there is a diminishing return on XP gains from higher leveled monsters like there was in WoW. (i.e. can't take a level 1 into a level 80 zone and power level with high xp gains)

It's not that questing isn't fun for me, but I have no attachment to these quests at all, and it makes it painfully difficult to care about "doing the right or wrong thing" in a quest. I often find myself just pressing the 1 key in conversations and just powering as fast as I can through the zones, where it actually slows me down due to lack of individual quest knowledge.

I know I will be missing out on Skill Points and Skyshards, but I would much rather just move on with this game then lumber my way through another faction.

You can skip the other factions if you want. You will just have to either grind Craglorn in a group or PvP which is pretty slow. You can go V5 to v12 in Craglorn in a couple days. About 1million exp an hour on average I would guess. I gave up the question at V5 also and skipped the 3rd faction for now. Grinded Craglorn to V12 pretty easily.

You should complete the Cadwell's Silver quests at a minimum so you can unlock the VR6-10 zones in AD territory. You can then decide if you wish to continue questing and wrapping up the DC content or move on to grinding in Craglorn or fighting in Cyrodiil or completing Cadwell's Gold in the AD zones.

I was trying annomalies and I must say it is better for me to wait for non vet campaign and make alts everytime I hit level 50. Veteran content is way too slow and grinding I hate.
  • jdandrews108b14_ESO
I love the grind aspect, it's what I have been looking for in a game for a long time.

The way they did it for this game, though, is just terrible. There is a singular path to follow and all they did was exponentially increase the gaps between levels.

I wish the game comprised solely of Veteran Ranks and I could slowly grind at my own pace and not left in an abandoned zone.
Maybe a few repeatable quests to clear out delves/public dungeons. Or crafting quests that you can turn in supplies or weapons to help the "War effort in Cyrodill".

Back on topic, can anyone answer my second question as to whether or not I will receive less experience from a vet12 kill if I am vet5 as apposed to being vet12 myself?

I just finished this last night, Septima Tharn was the hardest fight I took on in this game by far. As a Nightblade who has gotten through any situation using a combination of stealth and single target burst, her "Army" she spawned was rediculouly broken. I couldn't even get one down before the whole group was on me.

Needed a off spec resto-staff build and a Templar to help me take it down.

I ran thorough the first vet places just to unlock them all. Only really did things in two of them. grinded in crag from 5-12 as well. You get less xp until u hit vet 8. about 24k per boss pre vet8, 37k vet8+. at least for me it was
  • jdandrews108b14_ESO
Awesome, between FvFvF and mob grinding I'm sure I can make it to 12 soon.

Thank you guys for the responses!

so you are going to ignore all those skill points? all because you don't want to participate in those "Dreams" they are not really happening, you are still the hero of what ever alliance you chose, but the lore specifically tells you it just let's you experience, the other factions, it doesn't rewrite history
  • jdandrews108b14_ESO
    Ignoring skill points?

I have used a single build that no longer can benefit from skill point additions (i.e. all passives and active skills are taken in the respective skill line.
I have 43 skill points just sitting on my character sheet because I have yet to find a weapon I actually care about more then dual daggers.

Not to mention the fact that I am not going to just forget they exist, I just don't want to wait another 2 months doing something I dislike only to get to make it to Craglorn as it becomes outdated.

I can try to go back and finish exploring/questing on my own time.
(and trust me, I plan to eventually)

And although the "lore" of this game explicitly tells me that it's all an "Illusion" of helpping the bad guys, that doesnt remove the fact that the actual person (me) does not find it interesting at all. I just did all of these for The Skald King, I don't want to do it again, and then a third time.
If I wanted to "experience" the Aldmeri Dominion or the Daggerfall Covenant I would have rolled on their faction, or at least made an alt.

The fact that this is REQUIRED to progress into new content is what I dislike, not that I GET to do it.

One build really? Would love to see your set up, since it seems to work with all encounters. Sounds like you have plenty of room for crafting perks. I personally would like some felxabilty to perform multiple roles

However that assumption is wrong. You don't need to grind vr to go to craglorn, you just need to do certain quests to move on to cadwell's gold, however people that have3 already defeated molag bal, can travel stieght to coldharbor from any of these cities no mater what faction you are currently in. Mornhold, Eldenroot, and .....Daggerfall or wayrest i can't remember, regardless you only need to be vr

I have every skill in dual wield unlocked, as well as all armor types (save the last 2 in light armor). All of my class skills are taken, except for the increase pot effectiveness in Siphoning and a 2nd point in The ultimate gain from Siphoning.
First weapon set is my daggers, which I hardly need to switch out of.

Killer's Blade first for execute spell (heal morph for survive), and Blood Craze for a dot and HoT (sometimes I swap this spell for Blinding Flurry if I need more damage). Third spell is Veiled Strike to reduce target armor and cost effective nuke, followed by Flying Blade for a more ranged pull or Whirlwind if I need AoE. Lastly is Shadow Cloak, which I use to generally one shot a mob out of the group to open and use to gain breathing room and increase my armor midfight.

When I weapon swap I use a resto staff in a more "janky" approach.
I unlocked grand healing and restoration springs to heal alongside Strife morph, Aspect of Terror for breathing room, and use volcanic rune in the last spot to even out pulls if they get to large. I can pretty much endlessly juggle mobs with volcano rune and then heal myself if a rune only hits 1.

I have very, very low interest in using any other types of weapons, and am using the resto staff purely out of necessity to progress through difficult areas.
Every MMO I have played be it WoW, Rift, Everquest, SWOTOR, LOTRO, or GW/GW2 I played a stealth assassin character. Never once did I want a cleaver of a sword nor a bow.
Why should I have to change that for this game, especially when the tag line for the game is to play viably however you choose to build your character.

EDIT: I would like to also point out, as this may seem strange to some, that of the 5 friends that started playing this with me, before they stopped, all 5 of us had at least 20 skill points saved at one point or another since we did not care to play something other than what we intended from the start.

Also, my question was not whether I could venture into the area, as I have stated I did so back at vet4 when it was first release.

But the mobs were very hard to kill before they would kill me and was not a viable place for a vet4 to quest and grind. I was wondering if this has changed with updates to the game or if they are still requiring people to finish all 3 faction zones before making it to end game content?

PvP was helpping, but unfortunately the FPS is terrible in Cyrodill and I cannot get much done my ways of fighting.

You will always need a group to grind Craglorn it has not changed. Find a group for burial or anomalies grinding.

I currently have two VR characters parked and will probably have my third here by next week. At this point, all I can do is kind of hope they have some big plans for alternate VR levels. Replaying old content that you have already experienced isn't that compelling especially since if feels like a huge betrayal to your own faction.

Craglorn isn't an option since its pretty much group-only. Hopefully the developers come up with a better option soon.

hummmm the only thing left then would be Vet dungeon grinding, hopefully they will do some solo content soon. I have nothing against participating in this Dream of Meridia's where we go to other factions, but I am getting tired of that grind, that just takes the fun out of leveling an alt. I would go to PVP or Craglorn, but I'm a crafter and know I would just be dragging peeps down, until I get more Skill points

Love that fight. I crossed the river and LOS the mobs behind a rock. That way I only had to fight 3 or 4 at a time.

This is exactly my point. I am so utterly bored of grinding repetitive quests and I just want to move into something a bit more fresh and current.

Besides I dislike any kind of mass warfare PvP (can't stand thinking I'm just a number), and crafting was albeit a bit fun, but I got everything I needed gear and pot wise through just killing things so I passed on them for now.

BTW: I tried to enter Craglorn and like I previously experienced, the mobs are able to be taken down by a vet5, but it takes a while and I dare not say it's efficient. i joined a /zone chat grind group and it made things move a bit smoother, but it's such a boring a stupid way to powerlevel that I can't bring myself to stay doing that. So I would say it is not viable to enter before at least vet8 when you can have more health/damage output.

Last time I was aware dungeons award quests only on the first run through and the mob xp was below subpar. Has this been changed to help with leveling?

Does it help if you imagine that you are a spy sent from your faction to observe the ways of your enemies, to live their lives, see what they value, fully immerse yourself in their ways, and even help them greatly to avoid raising suspicion.

There are spies like this in the real world. Why not on Nirn?

It's not like you're fighting for the enemy in Cyrodiil or anything.
