WTS something whisper with offer

I am a player that asks for offers in a whisper. I don't sell stuff in zone very often and I don't really keep up with "market value" So basically I am trying to sell an item for more than I would get from a vendor. Maybe it is a set piece or something that looks like another player might find useful. Not all people are trying to cheat people or rip people off.

I am friends with a former salesman and one of his favorite phrases was "the lowest price I am willing to take is the highest price you are willing to pay" If I ask for an offer I am looking for a price that agreeable to both parties. If you make me an offer that is too low I will tell you. If you want to pay what I was looking for (or more) I will sell it to you at what you offered.

Until we have a Kelley Blue Book for TESO, asking for offers is the best way to determine a price. Rather than hate people who ask for offers, make a legitimate, reasonable offer and buy your desired item OR move on and deal with the next person selling that item.

And I wont air my prices in public because they are my prices. They are not up for your review, youre not my father nor the price police. This isnt socialism, jack.

I've never been to a store where they don't list their prices, and I live in a democracy Jill.

This doesn't get me all riled up. I just whisper an offer on the low end of fair and if they don't message back I call it a day. Sellers have different styles. No big deal.

Yeah, exactly. What's the problem here? I've asked for buyers to send an offer and have often taking the first offer that comes up because it's reasonable, not because it's way over the value of the item.

What happens when you list the price up front is that you stand a chance of accidently selling something way cheaper than everyone else would sell it for, or you list it way too high and everyone will ignore you because they think you're unreasonable and would never haggle (or they just don't feel like haggling in the first place). It's pretty difficult to get the price just right for /zone. I know the value of items in my trade guilds, my local markets basically, but I don't know these values for the local markets of other players.

Of course, the same road blocks can occur with sellers who ask for an offer, too. They get offers and never say anything back, or they make up other offers that they haven't even gotten to drive up the price.

The point is, some sellers are terrible, and would be terrible whether they listed their price up front or asked for an offer. That's the only thing you should really have a problem with.

(BTW, for dealing with those who say they're getting other offers through /whispers, I'd suggest that people start asking for the bidding to happen in /group for transparency and just ignore sellers who are unwilling to do this. It's easier for them than having to run back and forth with prices so the only reason they'd have to refuse is because they're lying.)

My distate for offer-only sales has nothing to do with fear of getting ripped off and I don't hate anybody for engaging in it. I accept that this is a popular sales method.

I just don't want to deal with it because I have social anxiety and haggling and bargaining make me very uncomfortable. I would rather make a purchase where the price expectations are upfront and advertised and I have as little interaction with the seller as possible.

It's nothing personal against the people who sell that way.

Some people dont like the flak they get when they state in chat how much they want. There are people that will flay you for stating a fair price then be caught selling it for the same thing a day later.

edit: also, some people say "make offer" to see multiple offers because they have no idea what a fair price is. They could ask in zone whats a fair price, but see paragraph 1 for why that yields less than accurate results.

One of the biggest problems with selling via chat and no global auction house. TROLLS.... even if they don't want to item they simply have nothing better to do that heckle people when they state a price. Don't like the price? Then don't buy it or sell one cheaper. Stupid TROLL in a lower zone the other day stating 1.5k was "CRAZY" and ripping people off for a stack of unrefined goods. Sure I'd seen 1.2k and 1.3k, but 1.5k was not too far off the path and I'd pay that no problem. I wasn't even the SELLING, but I jumped in anyways cause the guy was being a prick to the seller.
