How does one kill them solo anymore? This was not the case in the past.

ZOS is determined to make everything in this game require grouping with other players.

Of course when all the main questline missions are solo-only, and the phasing system makes it extremely difficult to group up for public zone quests anyways, we're caught in a bind.

Are you talking about Gargoyles in VR zones. These were immune to knock back since the beginning if I remember correctly. This why I put bow and Magnum shot down and never looked back. With the exception of of one or two quests one doesn't have any reason to try to solo a Gargoyle though.

Dark cloak apparently is broken since last patch but I don't use it.

You are funny! I suspect however, that you comment is simply a lack of knowledge about other classes.

In the case of a sorc. it is not really 3. One pet is the equivalent of an inefficient tank (armor boost) for which I give up 10% mag. the other pet that also takes 10% mag. provides some heals (health boost) and a small amount of dps. In the case of the gargoyle, it means the gargoyle gets distracted allowing me time to heal and reposition and soundly thump him on the head.

Other classes have equivalent skills to the sorc. if you have trained them.

One thing I like about this game is it forces you to change up your tactics from time to time to deal with specific situations / mobs. There is no one size fits all "rotation" that allows moronic button pushers to proclaim dps superiority. Oh wait there is .... you simply stick to one type of fight only.

    Cheers

My VR10 NB is AD, and I only recall 2 gargoyle issues, both in upper DC VR zones.

The first one was the one that spawns in Rivenspire when you're protecting Darien in that graveyard. Now, the way I got past that one was by throwing on an inferno staff, destructive clenching his stoney @ss away from me, and swaping to a bow and eventually wearing him down. At that time, that particular gargoyle could be pushed around. Though I am personally not a fan of playing staves on my NB... a win is a win.

The other one, I mentioned in other threads, and found I am not alone. As a NB I simply cannot beat these specific ones. VR10 Bangkorai. Laurant gets Stibbons turned to stone. She needs to harvest a gargoyle, and they roam around and area packed with gobbos. Now those specific gargoyles and completely immune to any kind of CC that I am aware of. And despite my overcharged stamina regen, these specific guys just resist way too much damage to keep your stamina from running out, in the long course of the fight, from rolling and sprinting.

Not to mention they have a melee reach of giants. Even when rolling away she gets caught by his swipe/bleed. Over 800 hp gone in a matter of seconds. You catch that, it's a wipe.

Outside of group/public dungeons bosses, these specific gargoyles are the only NPCs in the whole game I can not bring down. I have (probably only once, no more than twice) solo'ed a storm atronarch - by pure luck, but I have done it. So these very specific VR10 gargoyles in that one quest just own me as I can't get one down.

Well, for me I personally find sparks works very well except when it decides to smash the ground beneath it is feet, which I than block and pop a health pot...Yes Spark from the DW tree makes it miss you with all it is melee damage despite lasting only a couple of sec, and is somewhat spammable if you have a way to recover stam, like siphoning strikes.

Playing since pre-launch and gargoyles have been able to see through Shadowy Disguise since then. Never tried knockback on them though.
shadowz081's tactic is what I used to beat them iirc.

Gargoyles are crazy tough, too immune to stuff, if they had a weakness, like fire you could fit to suit but they seem pretty Omni-tanked.

Gargoyle have ever been NOT immune to knockback?! In my experiece they were always immune to everything in the world. Non vet gargoyles, too. But non vet are doable, just a bit annoying, vet...I seem to remember them still being doable in vet 3 Rivenspire, but later on there was that quest(alas don't remember where) with icy lady who did great job freezing gargoyles for me to kill, but then I accidentally died, icy lady apparently left in disgust and that was NOT FUN. I gave up after a few tries and just ghost ran by it.

Oh, also, Stibbons quest in Bangkorai is like the worst quest I ever had to do, and that was vet 5 for me, can't imagine how much joy they must be by vet 10.

VR8 Rivenspire, the quest in the town where you have to cover Darien in that graveyard, 2 or three waves of bloodfiends spawn, capped by a gargoyle. I was able to use destructive clench to keep his stony @ss away from me... but that is the only time I can recall being able to push them around.

That being said, I am very familiar with that VR10 Stibbons to stone quest in Bangkorai. Those gargoyles in there are the only non-group-boss NPC in the game my NB has been unable to solo. To this day I still don't have that quest done on her. As the zone is empty, I have better things to do than sit around and wait for the next masochist to come wandering through.

    Not fun.

Gargoyles have always been immune to all CC.

Several elite status monsters are. EG: Storm Atronachs and Harvesters too.

Dunno about the cloak thing, dont play a NB.. But pretty sure that was nerfed in the craglorn patch, since it was severely bugging out dungeon bosses (and would of been very broken if it bugged out trial bosses).

As I can recall only certain ones are immune, but even in VR1-5 zones and dungeons they were at least knockback-able or from the NB standpoint Dark Cloak will hide you, but now none of this applies. Yes they are now almost as impossible as the Storm Atronachs. Sick!! for just a "trash" mob.

This post might be irrelevant in 12 hours time, since the forum's gone nuts about upcoming 1.2.4 patch EZ moding vet content. Anyway I finally got to see a VR3 Gargoyle today, blocking the entrance corridor to a solo public dungeon. How bad do you want that skyshard?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewWp5UDpGTI&feature=youtu.be

He's CC immune, has a lot of HP and is well armoured. He has a small amount of self healing. And he can turn you to stone. His three skills, as far as I can tell :

    1. Petrify - aka turns you to stone.

Does this also buff your armour? It happened to me a few times and was annoying as I couldn't act, but didn't take that much damage. He seems to cast a wall of stone in front of himself, like a frost sorcerer's ice barrier, then punches it, sending a ground wave type thing towards yourself, if it touches you, you become stone. Can block the ground wave to escape petrification, looks like you could roll left/right as well if you're REALLY fast, also looks to be fairly short range too, but I could be wrong about that.

    2. Red circle and ground pounding

Didn't do me that much harm, however his health regenerates while doing this , so it's essential to get out of the red circle so he breaks this animation and starts chasing you again ASAP, or he'll heal. Well, it is essential if your DPS is as feeble as mine.

    3. Smackdown

He can knock you over too. White power attack lines come on the buildup to this?

The fight ends with me being turned to stone, but the outcome you'd expect...

Gargoyles just suck at any VR level - I generally try to avoid them or end up gem running in a cave if I need to get past them.

The one in Rivenspire that spawns when you rescue Darien actually despawns if you kite it for a couple of minutes...

Gargoyles have always been immune to movement impairing effects, except for a select few in certain quest zones.

Gotta be able to move if am kind of squishy.. or take them up close if more a tank or use a tank pet if you are able to.

Ran into them in Northpoint in Rivenspire (vet3). I also had that stupid Orc NPC aggro one so no other choice to bring it down.

I mainly Heavy attacked them in combo with a binding Javelin, and when I got too bored went in for a couple Puncturing Sweeps. Kept most of my Magicka for heals, just in case. Tiresome and very boring fights because of the amount of hps and that small regen they have.

Wispmothers are much more fun to fight compared to these hps trucks.
Haven't run into Storm Atronachs yet but till then Gargoyles are the most annoying ones to fight.

I could always kill one at a time, but knockbacks never worked against them. They're, well, intaglio. They're living statues. But being knocked away from them always did it for me, so Magnum Shot contributed well to my strategy.

Tfw Bow/DW and can solo one gargoyle at a time in Craglorn. Feels two can be as bad as one 'cause it's the loneliest number since the number one, man.

I found the best way (as a sorc) to get the skyshard was to summon my Clanfear, then just run past the gargoyle the moment I could and keep going. He eventually killed my pet, but I was far away and hidden, so it dropped me out of combat. Felt like the Python knights and the killer rabbit. "Run away!!!"

I somehow managed to solo a VR7 one in grahtwood.... with my NB archer. I used funnel health a lot, poisoned it, and rolled quite a bit, since you cant snare/knock them back. I used deathstroke a few times, did not knock it down, but did good damage. I used a good bit of health potions, shadow cloak as well, to use said health potions; and kept this pattern up, and eventually bought the dang thing down. I DO NOT want to fight a VR9 or 10 one though(saw a bunch of VR9 ones during a quest, I said "noooo" and just cloaked and snuck past them)

You get the idea.. and yes the mob is working as intended.. they can be really annoying... but not unbeatable...

Anyhow what next about all this stuff... storm atronachs should be able to be knocked down as well?... those are even a more pain in the ass to figth or can be... at least you think twice before taking one on.
